I was a ship’s diver when I was in the Navy.  I had no problems diving around, under close to all manner of ships and port infrastructure.  Mostly.

The one time I felt very unsettled was underneath a frigate in Portsmouth, near zero visibility because of the silt. For some reason I couldn’t move my fins. The depth below the keel was only about 2.0m and my feet had become stuck in the goopy soft harbour mud.  I was night time also, that didn’t help much.

Left “bottom” pretty quick that night.

Not to feel terrified when both wheels leave the ground simultaneously.

I’m running a 160 Fox on my Pace 627, designed for up to 150.  I still live.

Running with a bit more sag than is normal. A very plush feeling fork.

Makes a difference – probably not.

    Pointless – certainly not.

Consumer pressure and awareness will drive the markets towards plastic free packaging and such like.

I’m happy to use, and keep using, both.

A £5 note will always be worth £5.

Each time a cashless transfer is made, someone somewhere is paying for that service. So, the value of the transferred money is slightly less once the transfer is complete.

We also have to accept that the banks and government will have a greater level of control over who and when and how transfers are made.

Of all the 0% beers I’ve tried, this one is really good. I wouldn’t normally go near a fruited beer, but this one works  IMO.

I have a 1992 Kona Cinder Cone waiting for a revitalisation.

I was thinking of bring it back to former glory with period correct parts, but thats just going to be too expensive. If the frame was something a bit more special then maybe I would.

Plan is to refresh the paintwork on the frame and the P2 forks, use one of the pairs of older 26″ wheels that  have hanging around (STX-Rc hubs with Mavic rims) add a 1x Microshift Advent drive train, see what brakes might hiding in the bits and bobs bin.

Anybody else watched Last Stop Larrimah?
Brilliantly filmed documentary about the people, and a missing person, in a middle of nowhere town in the Aussie outback.
The “town” in question has 11 residents. The interpersonal tensions are fascinating…. And scary.

    No E-bike for me, thanks.

54, and resonably fit with no major health issues.

I can manage the hills at my own pace, and can do many miles if I’m not trying to break records.

The compromise of an E-bike is that you get a free pass up the hills, at the expense of a massively heavier bike for all other times.  Also, I’d be stuffed if something broke and I was in the middle of nowhere with a lump of a bike to drag back to humanity.

Flew home from Korea on the 20th.

Started feeling rough on the plane.

Threw up just at the end of the flight.

Got home and had to spent much time in close proximity tothe loo.

Fasted for the next 36hrs, which seemed to knock it on the head, Xmas was looking OK. But no, it came back on 24th, not as bad, but have had  no  appetite and a bit nauseous since then.

Of course, i have tried to tell my Mum that her MASSIVE over the top meal today might not get a look in, but she her total absense of empathy means that its going to be a very trying day.

Always have a super bright dayglo jacket with me, and recently bought a helmet with a Recco reflector built in (dont even if thats supported by UK SAR?).

My Garmin watch has accident detection, but  is way too sensitive to be of any use, any ideas if that can be adjusted?

Flex joint on my Subaru was either a £1100++ complete system, or a £80 at a local specialist to just replace the joint.  Crazy to think how people will sack off cars for seemingly uneconomic super expensive MOT repairs when very cheap options are available.

    Thanks @kramer.

Unfortunately we can’t take Melatonin offshore, there’s very strict rules about the medication we can have. Anything that is close to sleep medication is totally banned.

I’ll try to do the adjusting my routine to suit the upcoming shifts.

Heading home from the far east tomorrow. Generally don’t find that trip too tiring, but will be out of phase until Xmas day I expect! Lots of daytime walks in the woods will be on the cards.

From the various 1st Aid Courses I’ve had to do it seems like they are best placed where they have the best chance of beinig needed.

Also, on their effectiveness, treat them like a fire extinguisher.  The sooner you can use one the better, the outcome for the patient is massively improved.   They won’t fix the problem, but it means your CPR will have a better chance of keeping them alive.

All the ones I’ve had use of (training scenarios only thankfully), have been very intuitive, and simple to use.  They analyse the patient and decide what type of shock is needed, if at all.

I’ll read the rest of the thread later, but I bet similar has been asked already.

I work on a ship doing offshore work, so I have 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off.  Currently the ship is in Korea, but moving to Gulf of Mexico soon.

So, I travel to a different time zone, do two weeks on a midnight to midday shift, the 2 weeks midday to midnight. Then fly home to to the original Time Zone.

When I get to work, The first 3 days are virtually sleepless.  I try to relax, and just be happy that I’m in my bunk with nothing to do.  I still get very tired while on shift though, and try to avoid more than 3 cups of coffee. When I change to midday to midnight, I’m able to flop over to the new sleep routine with little bother.  When I fly home again, The first day I’m shattered, but that is more to do with the flights.  Geting into UK timing for sleep isn’t too much trouble, normally a couple of night where I find it hard to stay awake until bedtime, then a short deep sleep and wake very early.

I can’t do anything about the disruption, it’s my job.  What’s the best I could do to help offset any bad effects of all this messed up sleep?

Ordered som New forks, The fox 36 Performance Elite.  Arrived in a few days, but Evri left them on the door step for all to see… FFS.

Actally better than the spec online, the ones I’ve received have the little relief valves fitted and a better damper than what the was mentioned online.  An awful lot of fork (£900+) for £340.  I really am impressed.  Not had a chance to fit them yet (This time I will not cut the steerer too short…).

    Not ment to be!

If I was wanting a FS bike, they’re what I’d be buying. Look nice and the engineering of the design is sound.

    UleFone X7 for me.

    IP68, all sorts of Mil-STD ratings I don’t understand.

So far it has been abused and covered in all manner of muck and slime.  It’s heavy, and the screen isn’t fab, and the charging port makes it tricky to get some cables to connect.

Not yet broken, which is better than any oher phone I’ve owned.  I might upgrade to something newer, but only because it’s not getting updates anymore.

Ah yes, didn’t think of the Genesis or Sonder options…

As for the fork, and thinking of a 29er frame, I can see how that might work.  I have the fork currently on a Pace RC127, with 2.8″ on the front, and it can just squeeze in a 2.6 on the rear with minimal clearance and the dropouts slid right back as far as they can go.

Nothing in the Ragleys really, the 27.5 offerings are all a bit too lively for a sedate pedalling rigid affair.

After giving a few a go, it’s Orange for me. Seems to last ages in the tyres, and doesn’t go off on the shelf. Conveniently, it also seals punctures well!

I really don’t worry about this too much.

They seem pretty thick with the data sometimes, a case in point:

    I need good pliers.

    I search for pliers

    I read pliers reviews

I search for best price on desired pliers

    I order pliers

    I track delivery

    I sign for delivery

    I even review delivery

    I post review of pliers

    I am happy with pliers

….. I still get adverts for pliers. The very same pliers I have bought.  Their inability to join up the dots is baffling.

With my job I spend 12.5.% of my life sat starting at 3 computers, and having to manage a pretty poor ergonomic situation.

Recent poorly lower back has been diagnosed with a lop-sided spine at the lumbar region.  I’ve also lost about 2cm.

Exercises specified by a physio help, as long as I do them.  But the loss in height is permanent. Mercifully, my job comes with Bupa, so was easy to get appointments arranged.

I won’t stop you. I have the 29er version… fitting the bleed valves is cheap and easy… especially when fitting the Fox mudguard at the same time.

I don’t really have the budget for anything with Kashima Coat, or swankier dampers, so this might be it.  I’m after better forks and wheels for my hardtail (Pace RC627).  It’ll be hard to turn these down.

I’d love to break out the skates again, but I live in a place with no flat or smooth roads and/or parks.

I would be a bloodied mess withing in minutes.

My One Bike, but it has other friends in the shed.  Much love for my Pace RC627.

I wouldn’t say it’s a do-it-all bike, but it works with my skill and fitness levels.

Any form of lock is just a deterrent to slow them down.

If you go for chain the weak point will be the lock and what it is locked to.

However, the bigger, heavier, noisier and more awkward to remove or bypass the better.

We had whiffy drains for a couple of years, Northumbria water were no help, couldn’t even provide us with a definitive plan of the drains on our property (connected to next door).

We had our drains checked and were given the all clear.  Spoke to neighbours and they had the same problem, but significantly worse, smells all the way through the house.

Eventually they had DynoRod around and it was a fault with their drain (Cracked/badly laid under a deck and patio…).  Once repaired the smells vanished immediately.
