Top tip for those thinking about shooting your own pigeons, the price is still about 35p each to sell to dealer so find someone who shoots them and offer them 50p each. Much cheaper than buying a rifle and shooting them yourself.2.9p is still cheaper plus a game keeper gives me some for nothing. Was haning a drink with him about a month ago and gave me one pigeon and 4 ducks. He left before I could by him a pint.

Hi SD-253Just been perusing your posts.
With all the money you save by eating pigeons etc, it would amuse me greatly if you then blow it all on crack and hookers.
I actually blow it all on beer and bikes but I am not sure if the latter counts as it saves me money ……… looks like I blow it all on beer but only to help the local communities out by keeping Lincolnshire Wolds village pubs open. I don’t actually like beer its my bit for the community….. Honest.
SD-253Free MemberMate was taking freezer to tip told him to bring to my house to put on freecycle. Cheaper and quicker to bring to me. Gave it to fish !ady for 6 Salmon on Croute.
SD-253Free MemberMassive fan of freecycle. I tend to give more than I get as lots of people refuse to believe you can carry there stuff on or in your bike trailer or because it is to far to go to collect. The good side to that is some offer to deliver. Managed to carry two very large compost bins tied across a trailer about 15 miles home turned out very easy as the wind was behind me. Either way it can be easier to give it way than take to tip.

WOW
wasnt expecting this much response
im lovin how some save moneyWere going to
Changing banks soon ( been with lloyds for 30yrs )
Good 1st Direct via money saving expert £120 they do all the shifting and they throw in a 6% savings account. Internet only but do high Street banking with there owner HSBCGetting a water butt to catch rainwater to clean car etc
BAD have to think about capital costs let’s say £30? My total water bill per year is £66. How’s much can you save by using a water butt a £1 a year doubt that much. Also the water is dirty. Clouds form around dust in the upper atmosphere.Selling all stuff i havent used for ages or dont necessarily need
Good I was giving a loads of clothes to the sally Anne but my fish lady took them when she was delivering fish. Next delivery got lots of freebies.Never just carrying on with policies again.
Good but don’t assume you should not take out bad polcies. May I suggest you take out the Sun Life policy recommended by Michael Parkinson? £4 a month 1st month free DD for second month. I choose £75 worth of M&S vouchers as my present from them. Arrived after the £4was taken out. Spent the vouchers on Gin to make my Sloe Gin and cancelled policy as per the small print. They offered to give me back my £4 if gave them back the vouchers?? MAY STILL BE AVAILABLE!SD-253Free Member.peterfile – Member
Buy one carrot, varnish it, use it time and time againhave to cut them in pieces leaving a trail up to and into the back of the cage. Good try peterfile keep thinking but remember they have to eat some.
SD-253Free MemberI moved the bird bath to a post about 15 foot from the window to improve accuracy only works at beginning of summer. Trying to think of away to save on carrots for the rabbit trap? They love carrots and they don’t rot to quickly but I have to remember to buy them as well?? Got me beaten this one!

Hi SD-253Just been perusing your posts.
With all the money you save by eating pigeons etc, it would amuse me greatly if you then blow it all on crack and hookers I live 6 miles from the nearest shop never mind hooker and Morphine (heroin?) Has no effect othet tjan to give me a headache but as a matter of interest if I cycled to a hooker would she care if I was a little smelly or can you order one on the internet and have her delivered?
SD-253Free MemberJust thought of this exfoliating soap drop a bar of soap in a bucket of sand?
SD-253Free MemberOkay not for evertone
A top investment a £120 air rifle, scope and bag included. Late spring early summer go out about 20 mins after day break there is always a couple of plumb wood pigeons intially on the roof going shoot me shoot me (my translation of coo coo). Same again about an hour before sunset. Depending on what farmers crop they are feeding on you can actually have meat and one veg from the evening ones. Alas by late summer the only ones around are the wary ones. There gone before you lift your rifle. Even the ones 40 yards away can see or hear you open your window. Even oiling the hinges doesn’t help. But the following year there are plenty of shoot me shoot me pigeons around again! Excluding capital costs and allowing for an occasional miss 2.9p a pigeon. I should ask the farmer to pay me after all I am doing him a favour?SD-253Free MemberSoap or shower gel? One costs 4 times more than the other and most of it goes down the plug hole before you can wash yourself with it.
BUYING BOTTLES OF WATER ARE SOME PEOPLE MAD?SD-253Free MemberFor those who live in Lincolnshire and parts of Yorkshire who are on meter and are low users. There is a “hidden” tariff basically you pay the same for your water but no standing charge. £7.50 a month bills goes down to £5.50. I am not on mains sewerage.
SD-253Free MemberI think I would describe my thriftiness as a redistribution of resources from things you want to spend less money on to ones you want to spend money on. With a large dollop of investing to save. Bought a Rohloff equipped Thorn with disc brakes. Minimal maintenance and if you use a bike a lot you will make some big savings. My favourite bike was an old Saracen with disc front and a rim brake on the rear. Am now on the 5th rear wheel worn out 4 since 2001. Front wheel/rim immaculate like new. Estimates are that your chain, chain wheel and rear cog will last at least 6 times longer than with derailleur. God knows how many times I have broken my derailleur. And of course good old Marathon plus no punctures in ….. Who knows? And I never forget that old maxim “pennies make pounds pounds buy beer”
SD-253Free MemberI have total discipline on takeaways. I never buy them, never ever. Well just once It was the nearest one in a pub about 5 miles away. I got rat arsed and the food was cold by the time I had cycled home. Only owning cycles in a rural area makes going to a takeaway quite pointless. You can make it and eat it in less time. One day though I will. There is one that will deliver but hefty charge. I will wait till my daughters come over and get 3 as that is more efficient and better still get them to pay
SD-253Free MemberWhat not to do:- sell something on Ebay and then help the local community out by using the mobile post office. I got there at 1.30pm left at 9.30. Postage costs £4 beer cost £25. Or put another way don’t use post office’s in pubs.
SD-253Free MemberThe car drivers that really get on my tits are the ones who move miles away from work and then complain about the time and cost of getting to work and then say how lucky you are for living so close to work. “I wish I could cycle to work” If they lived a mile away they wouldn’t cycle. Oh and the nob head who moved into a 5 bedroom house near me and said I wish I could afford to buy a bike like that. You have no idea how much it cost to run this house. May be you should have bought a smaller house?
SD-253Free MemberSo you are all agreed then If I am against mass immigration I must be a Nazi.
Remember
A recession is when your neighbor has lost his job. A depression is when you lose yours.
I hope I don’t have to explain that in terms of the effects of immigration. ISD-253Free MemberYou did not Google sd-253 and come up with
.winston_dog – Member
SdKfz 253because when I googled SD-253 I never came up with SdKfz 253 as you stated earlier you have an interest in the WW2 German army….possibly and unhealthy one? While I have no interest in a WW2 vehicle of any sort.
SD-253Free Member.winston_dog – Member
Why are you giving the troll more fuel?
He repeatedly suggests that I called him a Nazi, I didn’t. I googled SD-253 as it an unusual log in and he seemed a bit mental. On the first page, under images, is a German WW2 vehicle. This was actually in a previous thread and I asked if he was an APC or a breadmaker.winston_dog – Member
You do realise that you are arguing about immigration with someone who seems to have a log in that is also a WW2 Nazi Personnel Carrier?.
. winston_dog – Member
assume you are talking about meOf course I was.
I never actually called you a Nazi. I simply made an observation that your log in may be connected to military equipment that was operat
ed by the German Army during the time of the Nazis. Now I may be completely wrong and it may not have anything to do with military history. It may be a bread maker that floats your boat.
Don’t get me wrong I am very interested in WW2 history but I have met quite a few unsavoury characters who have an unhealthy interest Hitler
SD-253Free MemberJust like Bloody Sunday they (1 para) were not[/u] firing at them they just jumped in front of the bullets!
Just cycled home from pub soaked and pissed…..your honour!!
SD-253Free MemberElectric £21 a month. Central heating is LPG – wood. Obviously variable or put another way did farmer Giles spot me…… Joking but cost of free wood low (a bottle of Sloe Gin?). Heat hot water tank 175 litres. Everything in house cold water fill. If I use hot water tank 5 litres Left in pipes to go cold and 100 + litres in tank doing same. Alternative boil kettle nothing goes cold
SD-253Free MemberIf it’s brown flush it down if its yellow let it mellow. Water bill £5.50 a month. No mains sewage sceptic tank.
SD-253Free MemberPS approved foods, top scoff see if you can share delivery costs with a friend
SD-253Free MemberFirstly ignore everything I say unless you have financial discipline. First I moved bank’s to 1st Direct paid me £120 for doing so. Highest rated bank in UK. Got a 6% savings with them for 1 year. £300 a month Max for one year. Took out a credit card Tesco 0‰. Third one in 3 years bigged up my income a bit!! And got £3500 So everything I spend on food etc is left over at end of month and goes in 6% savings account with them. Also the equivalent of 3/4% in points. Now up to 6.75%. Before I renewed anything I checked if paying up front reduced the cost. Insurance 2.7% landline rental 23%. The latter I always finding staggering. The card is for 16 months have 7 months to go and have saved £3700 to pay off a £3500 debit My way of doing things. Please don’t try this if you have children!

Enjoy your ride and the drink.I get your point and have agreed – as does the slightly left of centre economist – there are some who are negatively affected by immigration. As I said before, they tend to be the low skilled. There is nothing new there. Their prospects are increasingly grim which is why education and training interests me!
Your final points are also largely true although I am not aware of serious people using “lazy” that much – maybe the euphemism less productive!! Either your not listening or you don’t want to hear. Managers of firms say it on the telly and in the newspapers constantly Jamie Oliver was on the telly saying it recently. For the people I am talking about thats a “let me lay down so you can stamp on my head feeling”
By the way would you increase your spending on new labour savings equipment if you can get cheap labour? Chinas great leap forward was due to cheap labour. One child per family? that cheap labour is done and dusted? Would you invest in appreticeship when there is no need?a consequentialist conclusion true – but put another way, those who you are correctly concerned about would likely to be in a worse situation now than if there had been no immigration.
Not a hope of me agreeing with that I don’t know anyone who had to work work 12 hour days to get the equivalent of a minimum wage. Well maybe the forces but thats a life chioce…excalmation mark. DO NOT REPLY FOR 5 MINUTES SO i CAN SWITHCH OF…2 X exclamation marks
SD-253Free Membergordimhor – Member
I and several others have listened to your views and responded with a reasonable counter argument.
other than teamhurtmore I can’t remmeber any counter arguements just attacks on my views. Okaywinston_dog – Member
You do realise that you are arguing about immigration with someone who seems to have a log in that is also a WW2 Nazi Personnel Carrieris obviosly a little extreme but generally very little in the way of a counter arguement other than the “real” economist. Bugger it you have stopped me doing the little work I was going today. Cycle to the pub then exclamation mark
SD-253Free Member[/quote]teamhurtmore – Member
I to have to go and do some work followed by cycle to the pub and a solid drinking session. Hopefully no Ash trees attacked by foriegn diseases will fall on me.
By the way I was not giving you a refresher in real and nominal wages why would i do that your a real economist!
You maybe missing my point I don’t care about the better of and if they do better or worse out of immigration. I know to many people in Manchester who would be living in abject poverty if it wasn’t for the extrodinary hours they have to work. What do you think it is like for them to be we told we need more immigrants because the British are so lazy?SD-253Free Memberlemonysam – Member
We (me) are not allowed a view.
You clearly are allowed a view as evidenced by the fact that you keep putting that view forward. People telling you that you’re talking mince is not the same as having your view suppressed.
Can’t agree with you there. Rememmber we are talking about having your views listend to. Nobody is listening to my views there just atacking them as in you’re talking mince. Andwinston_dog – Member
You do realise that you are arguing about immigration with someone who seems to have a log in that is also a WW2 Nazi Personnel CarrierIf that is not an attempt at censoring a person views what is?

SD-253 – Come on who decides on what facts to use and for that matter if they are facts or not?
I think… YOU do, if I understand this thread correctly thus far?
Thanks but we have my view and the view required by the politicaly correct that is everyone else on this topic. People talk about rational arguements But if you don’t agree that immigration is good then you are not considered rational in the first place. We (me) are not allowed a view.
Don’t agree with mass immigration = racist.
UKIP = racist I expect the latter gets them extra votes.SD-253Free Membergordimhor – Member
What Kimbers said.
Immigration policy will only improve when it is based on facts not on scare storIes.Come on who decides on what facts to use and for that matter if they are facts or not? You’re being naive if you think there is going to be agreement on this. In the programme they said that only 13% of the population was immigrants. There definition of immigrants was those not born here. Not everyone would accept that? I was actually surprised it was that high. 13% is more than I expected.

Nobody called you a Nazi.FFS.
I can’t believe I have fed the troll again!
Sorry you implied it, worse in my opinion
SD-253Free MemberJunkyard – lazarus
As for bigots – thats an insult right and not part of rational debate.
I am not calling anyone on here a bigot and being as I have been called a multitude of things including a Nazi thats a bit richSD-253Free MemberJunkyard – lazarus
Brant moans about politics whilst admitting he does not voteDoes not vote in elections, union votes etc? You should not have a choice of where ever you vote or not only on who you vote for. There should of course be a box at the bottom saying none of the above. Workers often go out on strike when less than 50% have actually bothered to vote. I believe BA have been on strike with less than 30% bothering to turn up to vote. Start with a fine and for constant offenders jail.
SD-253Free MemberJunkyard – lazarus
The BBC is always pro establishment /pro Britain [ which you could see as conservative with a small C but not really that political IMHO] but it does a terrific job of walking the tightrope of impartiality and holding the government to account
Hutton is in an interesting example of just how cosey they were with Nu Labour eh SD. Every govt feels the BBC is against them which shows they are investigating them well and holding them to account as well even if they remain pro western/on message.
Its far superior [ in general]to the alternatives out there – Channel 4 news is very good to be fair.Channel 4 is state owned and considered to be further to left by some than the bigots at the BBC
SD-253Free MemberBut I thought they had the economist Ports on this program (according to the blurb) he’s normally fairly open about the pros and cons (yes the impact on wages) and has written extensively on the subject including;
But, more broadly, immigration is mostly a red herring when it comes to concerns about the UK labour market. Youth unemployment was stubbornly high even before the recession and labour market prospects for young people without skills and qualifications are likely to remain bleak even in recovery. There’s plenty to be worried about. But not one credible economic analysis suggests migration from the EU has had a negative impact on the employment or unemployment rates of native Britons. Indeed, youth unemployment actually rose faster during the recession in areas that experienced lower immigration rates.Who defines credible?
“Economics is the only field in which two people can receive a Nobel Prize for saying exactly the opposite thing.”
And while the evidence is mixed on wages, with some evidence of downward pressure for the lower paid, the impacts are very small
Surely only those with a big fat wallet could ever say that? A sort of **** you I am alright
compared to more important factors such as technological change and the minimum wage.
THERE ARE HUGE AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING NOWHERE NEAR THE MINIMUM WAGE its not as if they brought it in yesterday. Home helps for instance.
Claiming that keeping out Romanians and Bulgarians (or other immigrants) would do anything significant to improve the life chances of young Brits isn’t just wrong, it’s delusional and a distraction from policies that might make a real difference.
An obvious example would be on house prices. Which I think may have an effect on the economic well being of individuals including those who are renting?
policies that might make a real difference
What are these policies that will make a real diferance?
What about wider economic impacts? Some have argued that immigration has little impact on per capita GDP. But this ignores much of the recent economic research on this topic, which suggests that immigrants can boost innovation and raise productivity; and that, perhaps as a consequence, countries more open to immigration, like countries more open to trade, seem to have higher productivity growth.
Does higher productivity growth lead to higher real wages? Actually it should. It did during the Agricultural, Industrial, Transport and the beginning of the Computer Revolution. But why should increased immigration do that? After all why increase capital spending when labour is so cheap? Only when Labour is expensive do business increase Capital spending. Okay I will use once only 🙂
Money itself is not the only thing that gives a person a good quality of life..working 8 hours a day leaving time to see your children? Living in an uncrowded environment?
Okay I am Neo Malthusian so **** the lot of you 😀
That was the last oneSD-253Free MemberThanks for the insight re wages although I am not sure how the low pay for home medical staff’ (I know I have been there this year) relates directly to immigration but as an economist I can understand the impact of increased supply of labour
It was obvious an example of the effects of immigrations ie lower wages because of an increase in the supply of Labour. Nor does there have to be an increase of immigrants in that area of employment for there wages to fall. If I have to explain that to you you are not an Economist. Also I suggest you think of the impact of a fall in your wages of say 10% and a fall in the wages of someone on minimum wage of 10%. I suggest you use real wages not nominal and include RPI for someone on minimum wage not your RPI.

And the two exclamation marks imply I was joking!!!
Do these three exclamation marks imply that you’re joking here as well?
Traditionally, multiple exclamation marks don’t imply anything other than that the person typing is an 8 year old child, semi-illiterate, or a zoomer.
Go for it Northwind why have a rational arguement with someone you disagree with when you can just denegate his views with insults. I don’t use emotcicons because I am to old to use them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SD-253Free MemberYou can state it as often as you want but it doesn’t make it true.
Serious?
SD-253Free MemberMy impression was that you felt they (the Beeb) were pro-labour and yet there seems to be little pro-labour comments so far – mainly as you say, they cocked it up. Sounds as if the message was anti-labour if anything, They didn’t cap to all by having Balls or Cooper sounding contrite did they?
Good idea to give Labour a chance at a little contriteness before the next election..sorry we made a mistake vote for us it wont happen again!
Bollocks my laptop is playing up. I have had a word with computer expert he said swithch it off and on again will try it!
SD-253Free MemberI am doing my best to reply to you teamhurtmore but I struggled on 7″ tablet and lost the whole reply twice on my little used laptop. So will have to reply in sections
teamhurtmore – Member
I have a suspicion you are being sarcastic teamhurtmore! Of course the BBC are biased they are not capable of anything else.
Not at all, just trying to be clear. Several posters have said that it was balanced and you have given examples of balance too. So simple question how was it biased – for or against immigration, for or against any particular party? As stated enough times now the BBC has admitted to bias in favor of immigrants and the left. Have you problem excepting this?
Again as they and there journalist have admitted. In one town they found people who were against greater immigration but the journalist then stated the majority were happy.
May be they were happy?
May be they should have gone with the survey in the first place, Instead of making it up?Later they had to admit that every survey said the public was against it.
So pretty balanced then….this is the message you keep giving me. Arguments for and against. I had better watch it then.
Again why say, “journalist stated the majority were happy.” Well the obvious reason is to give those who want to believe it something to hold onto!
