Had no problem getting to pub last night on my bike. 6 miles apart from 300 yards on a ice free A road, the rest frozen solid rural back roads. Only thing I was scared of was the cars. About 6 passed me (ignoring A road) and 1 on the way back. Got off the road to be on safe side. The benefit of ice tyres. The only time I come of is when I stop and put my foot down and fall over. Think I need something for my feet. PS Linconshire Wolds.
PPS Tyres grip on very steep hills, Although it is short the road out of my village is monster steep and exceptionaly icy. Cars regularly run through a neighbours hedge at the bottom of the hill.
They are Swalbe ice tyres.SD-253Free MemberHad no problem getting to pub last night on my bike. 6 miles apart from 300 yards on a ice free A road, the rest frozen solid rural back roads. Sometimes it is hard to change page. Is a stylus a good option moreover does it actually work on Nexus 7? another downside is I seem to be spending a lot more time reading the newspaper, upto now I have read everydays paper will have to cut that out or I will get nothing done! Actually got the papers for 3.83 including the nexus at 50 pound. excluding the Nexus 3.19 the latter is cheaper than what I paid before just for the Sunday. Dead pleased!! Although I had to pay all up front. Well actually it was on my new 1 year 0% credit card…even better.
SD-253Free MemberCame of on road once slid along the floor needed about 30 stitches in different parts of my face eyelid almost of. Still did not buy a helmet just did not like wearing them (not cool came into it). Eventually spotted a multipurpose helmet thick plastic outer, a khaki color brilliant gets you noticed which is always an advantage when you are cycling.
Bike mechanic told me about bloke in his eighties who had never worn a helmet he came off on a steep hill and scalped himself soon as he got out of hospital he went straight round and bought a helmet.
The front of my helmet is now scratched badly so would have been in need of some stitches if I had not bought it.SD-253Free MemberThank you to those who were helpfull and to those who don’t like Times I don’t care what your opinion of the paper is as that was not what I was asking.
As I live 6 miles from the nearest shop and don’t drive this seemed a cheap way and easy way of getting the paper when I need it ie if I am still reading the Sunday Times on wenseday I don’t want that days paper. Seemed great deal to me as I was thinking I could use the Nexus for other dowloads for instance pictures of Mushrooms while out foraging.
So a few more questions.
Can you buy a waterproof cover for it?
Do you download the papers via the Mobile network or through your computer?
Thank you again for those who were helpfull.SD-253Free Memberigm – Member
Certain multi-fuel stoves need the internals swapping when you burn coal (or wood if its swapped round for coal).
Can’t remember the details but it might be that it’s the baffle plate that needs removing for coal. Don’t know.Seen one (may have been a little Aga) where you actual put a grate in
SD-253Free MemberMulti will obviously include coal and why would unseasoned increase the likelood of burn out other than creating extra soot? NOTE Anthracite is differant it will destroy a mutifuel burner although you can get away with just a small amount in the middle of the burner. Risky though as we all have tendency to overdo the loading. I have a bag of coal I have had it since last Febuary never used it bought to take on Rugby tour to Newcastle but forgot to give it to oposition captain. Still in kit bag as I ended up with septic Arthritis think I will burn it. Even if I could get better it will be along time before I found Newcastle Tour again!
SD-253Free MemberI live alone home help were a god send but not there all day. So used a flask for all drinks and later got myself a sort of trolley (similar to hospital table that you eat off) from Lidls or try Ebay. Another option is Stick beer cans, bottles flask or even meals in a shoulder bag.
SD-253Free MemberAnd other sites I think this is one http://archive.org/details/inoldwest00ruxtgoog
SD-253Free MemberGoogle has 100s of thousands of books free to download ie out of copyright. You could also try Ebay for the same thing but on a CD all free and legal to download. Not nescearily ancient books.
SD-253Free MemberPS use it or lose it. IE it is still fermenting so if the box is expanding then you are not drinking it quick enough!

One from a nice cold cider bottle. That, or Pink Lady, or Fuji.
Try Gwatkins 47 pound 20 litres delivered bag in the box. Mainly single variety using vintage varieties (vintage is old english equals good for). The mediums are more likely to suit most peoples pallet Yarlington Mill for instance. The drys can leave you with a permanent pucker. I normaly buy the mediums but am moving towards the dryer by buying 2 X 10 liter bag in the box a medium and a dry to mix. Works out at 52 pound. There Perry is nearly sold out. The sweet perry is ludicrusly sweet so the dry might be better. The Yarlington Mill won Cameras best in Britian. http://www.gwatkincider.co.uk/home.html
PS I think the 20 liter works out at 1.20 a pint? and are 7.5%SD-253Free MemberFree ones. loads grow in hedge round here although they struggle to produce much. My favourite known apple is blenheim orange its Cooker and a dessert apple. Starts of as a cooker and then later in year becomes a very very good desert apple.
SD-253Free MemberIf I could get my license back and realy did want a vehicle I would have one of these

With windows and doors but robbing b**tards charge 14,000 grand in UK
or better still if you can take the rear seats out
http://www.polaris.com/en-us/ranger-utv/6-seater/ranger-crew-diesel/features Again doors and windows.
Easier than pulling a trailer full of wood on my bicycle
no tree would be safe from me!!SD-253Free MemberPS just had a Muntjack road kill STUNNING but not an ounce of fat on it cooked in a casserole dish. unbeatable flavour and good for you although not for the Muntjack
SD-253Free MemberAs a non car driver and having to share narrow rural roads with 4×4 the majority of which are driven by people who will not move on to the grass verge in case they get mud on there car and therefore will never need it off road, then all I can say to you is NOB HEAD………But then I am biased!!
PS also my ice tyres will probably work better on ice than a 4×4.SD-253Free MemberI have just thought break her fingers no more texting for her……..joking of course!
SD-253Free MemberOr is that 3500 texts above the limit of 3000? which 16p a text? Still how can you manage that many? PS LIE ABOUT YOU KNOWING ABOUT THE LIMIT ON UNLIMITED TEXT LIE LIE LIE. After all the “unlimited text” is clearly a lie?
SD-253Free MemberThe OP has already said that both he and his daughter knew of the 3,000 text limit.
Therefore the extra 500 costs 1.10p each?? bit excessive?
SD-253Free MemberI am sure they are edible if they bounce of your helmet. Personally I get mine for nothing when beating and from my rabbit trap. Who would have thought the daft bugger would eat carrots? Mind the only reason they are in my garden is they are the intelligent ones who moving into gardens as soon as the shooting season starts!
SD-253Free MemberFiend was going along a road with sign warning of Deer in road said “Don’t know why that signs there never ever seen deer on this road and I use it daily” Came round the corner and entire herd of 200 escaping deer were crossing the road. Escaped from farm. Wet themselves laughing
SD-253Free MemberI tried others but they just wore out. I use them for shopping and foraging and of course touring so they get proper use with very heavy loads. Filled to the top with Apples, Sloes etc sometime even firewood. Put my chainsaws and the tools in them (Work for Nature trust part time).
http://www.carradice.co.uk/SD-253Free MemberCarradice had mine for at least 10 years look brand new and always have at least one on my bike at all times. Apart from the last 6 months (been ill) I use one of my bikes virtualy every day. I have super C on the rear although a quick look at the site shows super Cs with very large pockets now a bit different from the ones I have. They are made out of black cotton duck a naturally waterproof material which never ever lets water in. Even when I was in a storm so severe it blew my tent away (despite being tied to a tree) they never let a drop in. I have front ones as well which go on mountain bikes with out needing a rack. Also have a briliant one which attaches to seat post and is very large. The latter can be turned into a rucksack although I rarely bother. Although they are 100% waterproof I occasionly spray them with a waterproofer as the outsides do get wet and I assume this adds weight. Brilliant gear went to the manufactures in Nelson to buy them excellent customer service always negotiate a price reduction over the phone. http://www.carradice.co.uk/

Very fit people can have asthma, it can have nothing to do with general health – I seem to recall that Team Sky’s Edvald Boasson-Hagen has it, for example, and he’s quite a fast chap on a bike…jonny Wilkinson he sometimes uses his inhaler before a kick
SD-253Free Membertimnwild
I have had Asthma for about 3 years although with the benefit of hindsight the symptoms were there for a lot longer. The asthma took the form of coughing (normal for late onset asthma) and continued unabated for an hour or two being sick at times. The first inhalers I used reduced the coughing significantly but left me with very excessive phlegm. Which with the odd cough could send huge glob phlegm across a room, not great you would agree. They changed the inhalers but they were no better a little bit worse. Before I could go back to the nurse I got a severe infection which was twice diagnosed as arthritis before eventually being diagnosed correctly But I was on a massive doses of steroids for 4 days and a month later again I had massive doses of steroids. The 1st time 12 x 5mg of PREDNISOLONE reduced to 8 over 4 days. Then a month at 8 a day But this was stopped after 4 days. I now very rarely use my inhaler (I don’t even get a blue one anymore). The point timnwild is it appears (for me at least) that there is a way to seriously reduce asthma with large doses of steroids over short period of time. Doctors say is not good for you because the steroids have such severe side effects But they were quite happy to give me very large doses with the intention of me taking them for the rest of my life (I had no side effects). Might be worth looking into it? After all that’s (steroids) what is in inhalers?

There is also the calcium risk. Some athletes that have hammered the protein have ended up with osteoporosis. Very high protein diets limit the absorption of calcium.Surely adding calcium to your diet would sort that out? Taking it before the protein drink.

A couple of people have suggested sports massage, including Macavity who is normally a good source of weblinks, but is there any evidence that sports massage has any noticeable effect on, well, anything?YES if the masseuse is a beautiful woman it has tendency to make you feel good and forget the pain although it can cause some parts of your body to enlarge!

……..help achey muscles after running? Need to step up training and aches making me not want to runachs will not be helped by anything other than more running. Ach is caused by impact it will go once your body adjust to it. Each time you increase the distance it will ache again untill your body gets used to it. High protein diets are normally used by body builders or people training for a sport which requires large mouscles. Sprinters would use it. The front row of scrum would need to have it delivered by the lorry load etc
SD-253Free MemberI use a Thorn with Rohloff gears, Thudbuster seat post, expensive rack with caradice paniers bags (at least 1) and I nearly always have Trailtech lights with me…………weighs a ton. Oh and cheap lock but I only do rural pubs. If I went into a town I would use a different bike and maybe an expensive lock or maybe just a U lock. I would not take that bike anywhere in a city like Manchester had 2 stolen in Manchester. Suppose you have to look at the risk where you are?

Public transport is expensive full stop.Thats why people use cars!
Posted 3 hours ago # Report-Postdeluded – Member
From the stop opposite (by the pub) into town? Had to for safety reasons otherwise you’d have got mown over walking? The cost of public transport in the UK is a national disgrace. Should be not for profit and subsidised. Costs me three times as much to catch train to sheffield with family as it does to drive.
As for buses into Leeds….well I think the bus fare is the reason that everyone on the bus can only afford crap tracksuits and/or leggings.
People use cars for convience and not because public transport is more expensive, which obviously it is not. Try adding maintanence depreciation parking charges never mind fuel costs.
You are both making pathetic excuses for using cars instead of public transport.
Worse still this is a cycling site I would have thought using your bike would be the natural alternative. Personaly I have only one scheduled bus a week if I worked I would cycle even if it involved 20 mile round trip (a shorter distance than i have done in the past). Furthermore buses are nearly always subsidised even some train journeys are. Trains are cheaper than driving if there is only one traveling. Only a moron would expect a family to travel cheaper by train than traveling by car (the remark is not aimed at the persons quoted above)The best thing I like about traveling by train is just how restfull it is with an almost certain view of decent bit of counryside and a chance to read a book if I am so inclined. BUSES ARE NOT FOR PROFITSD-253Free Membersomouk – Member
Going back on topic, there is more and more evidence that eating the 5 a day is actually quite bad for you considering our high sugar modern diets. As I have stated the calories in fruit is made up of Fruitose therefore you would be taking in a lot of sugar but you don’t have to have a “high sugar modern diets” 5 a day diet is about nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and of course fibre.
Low carb is the way forward! Even Mark Cavendish used a low carb diet running up to the Tour.
But not on the tour?? A Low carb diet is a high protein diet no way is that a good way to train for a high cardiovascular exercise. It is called the Atkins diet which causes you to be tired because of the lack of carbs. In fact unlike other diets it works becouse protein is an appetite surpresent. Again this cannot be good way to train for high cardiovascular workouts.

Had ours built about 4 years ago, solid walls to about 4ft, solid tiled roof, domed ceilingThats a sun room not a conservatory. How well do you find it in terms of summer/winter temperature variations?
SD-253Free MemberFar to much they are a peice of shite to hot or to cold. I use mine as a greenhouse and it works realy well but only as a greenhouse. Think more of sunroom ie a normal roof. Flat roof are not popular if you use felt but there are other options like fibre glass. I am going to go for a repalcement for my porch which I do use as a conservatory as It is small enough to heat in the winter by leaving the door into open but it is small. My aim is flat roof (I am in a bungalow anything else far to expensive) which is 3″ thick but has insulation equal to 12″ of roof insulation. Longer or is it taller than normal windows double brick wall with insulation between OR glass brick walls for that extra bit of light. You don’t lose much light with a long narrow sun room.
PS and somewhere to hang wet clothes and store trainers and boots and put the washing to dry……..uhm not entirely a peice of shiteSD-253Free Memberhilldodger – Member
To be fair, anyone can call themselves just about anything !!
What? like nuclear scientist? Surgeon? Prime Minster? Arms/Explosives Search Dog Handler (bring your own dog)? Film Star?
SD-253Free MemberFruit is the best way and in some case the only way of getting vitamins and minerals (most people would call this nutrient) assuming you don’t want to use Holland and Barrat. It is also high in fructose a sugar that would supply energy quickly. They are also very high in fiber. A regular bowel movement would reduce weight and without it you would be uncomfortable. BUT for high-energy exercise you really need to go for an increased complex carbohydrate diet i.e. pasta rice etc while muscle building requires a high protein diet. To sum up a balance diet i.e. veg and fruit but an increase/decrease in protein or complex carbohydrates depending on what you are training for.
SD-253Free MemberPS Diclofenic (spelling may be iffy) is the prescription anti inflamatory although I use Arthretic 75 which has another ingrediant as well. Alowes me to spend an hour on the exercise bike everyday although my knee is bit swollen afterwards. Mind walking/standing for short periods has the same effect.
SD-253Free MemberMight be an infection
the skin surface us very sensitive (hurts when clothes touch).
I went to A and E with something similar (to diffcult to get to doctors appointment) in my elbow. Had nearly 3 weeks of antibiotics. Didn’t clear it went on rugby tour and I assume because the blood was pumping round hard for the 2 games it spread the infection. My left knee and all below became inflamed and my kneck was agony I ended up calling an ambulance after a few days at home. Spent 8 days in the hospital the doctors decided I had some sort of Arthritis spent 2 weeks at home unable to get off sofa. Found out I had an infection in spine (MRI scan) when it got there or how it got there is anyones guess, certainly doctors couldn’t think of no reason for it to get there. Ended up another 5 weeks in hospital and been on crutches for 4 months (septic arthritis in right knee). hoping to get back cycling soon. Although walking without crutches appears (judging by the pain to be creating more damage) So have bought walking poles to get me in the pubs once I get to one.
I think you need to check for an infection “the skin surface is very sensitive (hurts when clothes touch)” sounds suspciously like an infection although it also matches Gout?SD-253Free MemberA thin fleece is also usefull extra. No need for a posh name any brand will do. Doesn’t soak up sweat and is nearly always more than enough for freezing weather
