Ah well I guess all the regulars on here like it the way it is and never experience anything else to realise what they’re missing – it’s when I go from using other forums to here that I get irritated by what it’s not possible to do.

Or maybe all the regulars are here because they prefer this to the ‘standard’ forum layout all over the internet?
I know that’s the case for me. It’s also why I enjoy b3ta; that and my lack of taste.

I like it. I’d like it more if you could change the capitalisation of your username everytime you logged in, but hey.

That’s as maybe. I suspect that the number one entry criteria, by some way, is still the size of Daddies bank balance.

The people who work in the Oxford Undergraduates Admission office disagree. There’s one in the family.

I do wonder if chancellor is any more than a figure head these days though? does a chancellor need to have a long term background in economics? surely like every other minister (eg defense, healthcare, environment) they just follow the most convincing advice from civil service and put a face to it?

I’d like to agree with that, but some things
(the way Government treated the scientific advice concerning drug harm to society, or the attitude to Terror and security which was completely in contradiction to the advice of the ex head of MI6 who was in that industry their whole career)
    make me wonder.

It’s not about the action the government chose, more the apparant lack of reasoning behind it.

I woke up this morning with a bladder that felt like I’d poured two pints in a pint pot, and an erection that I could’ve used to cut diamonds. If we are here through Intelligent Design, the creator is having a right laugh at our expense.

Cougar, I liked it when I thought you were a woman.
Then again, my mum read me the bible at a young age, so I grew up thinking God was a woman. Who looked like the woman from the PG tips box.

I buy what I consider to be the best based on the function I want from it. Sometimes other people’s envy may factor into this, but that’s a strategic decision on my part to get more from my life through subtle manipulation of my image as perceived by others around me who have been conditioned by marketing to see me as better because of my shoes watch car boat penthouse escort.

I had my ‘last’ on Thursday night, lasted Friday and Saturday morning. Sunday evening comes along and someone was literally giving cigarettes away… Been smoke free since ~3am Monday Morning… That’s 36 hours. Half way to 3 days… Pleased I’ve managed to get through 2 work days without really even wanting a smoke. Calm before the storm? We’ll see how this goes…

Says I’m an engineer on the side of my van, copy of The Sun on the dash.
    Yup.
I’m more worried about the mind set of fresh engineering graduates at top universities:
“Yeah, I’ll work at Network Rail for a few years, they’ve got a Graduate program that means I’ll be chartered really quickly. Don’t care ’bout trains”
Couldn’t care less what people call themselves, it all becomes pretty clear if it gets brought up in conversation
    “I’m an Engineer”
    “Cool, what do you do?”
    “Fix fridges mostly”
“Ah sweet. I’m an engineer too, I design laser designators for Thales”

Find your biggest local friendly guitar shop and tell them how much you want to spend and try everything they have. You’ll probably like the PRS best (they’re really rather lovely), but you never know.

Yup, peterfile – it can be a bit much at times.
I’m not advocating there be no style in the Laptop world – I recoil at IBM Thinkpads like they carry disease. Macs now seem like a uniform to me. Sure they’re stylish, but the lock-ins to Apple and cancelling of jailbroken items etc just scream to me that Apple products don’t really belong to you. Fair enough, but how does individuality come into this?

I know no one cares about my personal experience with Mac or PC, but there might be more ad revenue from me typing this. I’ve simply not had a problem with Windows since ’98, unless you count failing to boot because I thought 4.2GHz on an old Pentium 4 on stock air was a good idea. The benefits I get from using Windows still exist: Stuff like hacking drivers so my little gaming card acts like a workstation card. Using the hardware I want very easily.

Cyclists should pay road tax. This was plastered across the Metro yesterday with no effort given to balancing the argument (other than ‘cyclists feel less safe’) and establishing facts about said mythical ‘road tax’.

Do you do any computational physics?
Bah, who am I kidding – get it anyway! Pile it in while it’s cheap, say you don’t think of upgrading for a few years and DDR4 appears out of nowhere; the cost for your RAM will start going up! It’s a PITA to get cheap 2GB sticks of DDR2 now.

What’s this about a Manchester meet? Give me some details and reinforce it in my head that I won’t be welcome unless I quit. Right now.

I want to be able to swim a few lengths without feeling like I’m going to drown.

scuzz – I adopted the 5mph because I didn’t want to cause any injuries. Keep up – and the unit you speak of is lumens.

Apologies, I lack basic comprehension and spelling skills. I feel this is less of a character fault than swearing at people I don’t know when they attract my attention to something I hadn’t noticed.
    Chill out!
Saying that, I’m probably making assumptions – I don’t know what happened and you haven’t provided that much detail, so if I’m wrong I apologise for that, too. I’m sure you’re a thoroughly nice chap.

So, a man yells at you to watch out for his dogs. How is that a bollocking? Why does someone always have to be at fault? Nothing happened.

In response to the light thing – if he didn’t have a torch, it means he’s fine without one. You probably would be too, if you’re going 5mph as you claim. You definately don’t need a couple thousand lumans.

Used to really grate on me, I’d enjoy it if the ‘smart’ bits were of xkcd quality, but they’re not. It’s just bland ‘laugh at the socially retarded geek grappling with this social situation’ over and over again. Now I’ve filtered it out and it doesn’t annoy me much, but it still doesn’t make me laugh.
Maybe I’m comically maladjusted, I prefer more twisted humour…

You should immerse yourself in something you love that makes you feel brilliant before you go – go for a ride, put some really good music on loud, you know what you like doing. Fill yourself up with your own personality so it’s bursting out the seams and you have no time to think about her because of how much you’re enjoying your life. Then go to the party oozing confidence, looking sharp.

Get a Caddy and remap it up to a 140 Golf’s power. Loads of VW breakers, lots of parts interchangable with other VWs (Golf R36 seats should drop right in), lower it with some coil overs…
Avoid the M6 toll and you’re fine. Speedcameras don’t distinguish between cars and vans.
    Do it!

While I agree this may be the case with the cash cows, there is still a big market for more specialist games. Consider ARMAII – a fantastic FPS MilSim with a world of enemies who are indifferent to you and will happily kill each other while you watch as a cow (in contrast to CoD where stealth means nothing on non-stealth levels: point the crosshair at the enemy, they magically know you’re there…) Played with top end hardware, we’re talking an experience that still cannot be matched by console: Top end graphics driving three 2048×1600 monitors with TrackIR head tracking for view, massive choice for control methods, 128+ players in a game online… Fantastic advances that the average CoD consoler won’t have a clue exist.

As long as people still buy these games that consoles simply cannot handle (PS3 uses a G71 GFX chip from nVidia – that’s from ~2005 in the 7900GT/GTX, superseeded in a matter of months for PCs (granted the CPU is a different beast entirely)), PC gaming will not die.

Shame about Crossfire X – to be expected though. Almost makes me glad I dropped a HDD on one of my cards, shorting it…
What card are people saying is minimum for shiney bling? Can’t trawl through gaming forums at work really.

Wait, that means STW is an addiction. I’ve rationalised my reasons for being on here and see it as a special case… I digress…

I get the impression that there’s a lot of “Steve Jobsian-type loyalty” to the brand because of it’s faux-rebel independent vibe.

eh? It’s a browser, not a ‘lifestyle choice’.
Used firefox since ’04. Never crashes, set up with different profiles for work / personal browsing, everything how I want it.
Never seen a Mozilla advert off of a computer. This makes me happier than Chrome billboards etc…
