Have you tried putting in a tube first
Yes although I didnt leave it over night, but its hard to get the tube out of a road tire with out pull both sides on the bead.
Coke Bottle
Yes this is what I want probably will have a look for tutorials.
There used to be a double ended valve connector sold to BMX’ers so that if they got a flat whilst out they could patch it up and then inflate by ‘stealing’ air from a nearby car wheel…
this sounds cool !
I doubt that using another tyre will have the ompf to do it,
I was thinking a highly inflated MTB tyre to a road type might be ok.
Cheers for advice.
scu98rkrFree MemberI would nt bother with liners go for some normal cycle shorts under baggies.
Ie DHB off wiggle.
Then for baggies I’d reckonmend Endura one.scu98rkrFree MemberThe main problem is these “shared” cycle paths are unto grade if being used for proper commuting.
Its fine if you just out MTBing you can stop but if you actually want to be getting somewhere you cant be stopping every 2 seconds.
I was on national cycle path 4 the other day. It is a BOAT that rather strangely goes over Bowsey hill in Berkshire.
The path is pretty wide as its almost a road, although very dirty in Winter.
A horse was coming one way I was coming the other the horse rider wanted me to stop completely and let her past because
“she does nt know how the horse reacts round bikes.”Know this was fine I was just out on a Sunday morning.
But officially this is the main Cycle way between london and bristol.
This is akin to take a horse down the A4 or M4 and expecting every car approaching to stop “she does nt know how the horse reacts round cars.”.
The main problem here to be fair is the NCW4 goes a very weird route at this point and there should be a cycle path built onto the A4 at the foot of the hill.
But it seems to me it should also be the riders responsibility to make sure her horse does know about cycle before getting on a National Cycle Way.
scu98rkrFree MemberIn some ways this video is really cool it other ways its a bit ‘odd’.
The thing is I really have no idea how good an archer he is.
When he’s running / jumping he looks quite discordinated. But then I suppose he’s trying to run/jump with a bow + arrows in his hands.
Also is he getting a reasonable amount of power ?
The catching the arrow/speed shooting is quite impressive what ever.
scu98rkrFree Memberwas -6 in henley round 7 this morning. -4 in other nearby areas
scu98rkrFree MemberAnother vote for being Wet after a really bad trip to Llandegla and the final mayhem at Eastnor one year, I’ve never really managed to get back the enthusasim to push though the rain knowing there’ll be some good bits.
To be honest this also applies to summer I just know it will be worse in winter.
scu98rkrFree Memberok cheers for info I suppose I just try and see what its like
scu98rkrFree Memberone fork is 120mm and the other fork is dual position ie 120mm or 140mm.
scu98rkrFree MemberI’d echo what taxi man says
I’ve got a light 29er mtb and compared to that, of road my cross bike is rubbish
If you set up a rigid 29er with some very light thin tubless tyres (ie bontrager X0 1.9) and a longish stem and short bars. Then its a million times better off road than a cyclocross but not that much slower on road. It will be slower on the road obviously but not as much as you think.
Ok this is a ride I did from Twyford to Swinely on my rigid 29er. I managed to average 15.7mph on the road section to Swinley and that was with my 2.25 Racing Ralphs on.
http://app.strava.com/activities/232088852/segments/5649352500
over half an hour I can normally average 19-20 mph on 25mm road tyres on that route-ish.
The thing with the 29er rigid is that on some single sections I’ve actually got my best times (ie labrinth at Swinely) over the Full Suss.(although if I try to do the full trail with out stopping my times are quite alot slower on the 29er than my Full Sus as I tend to tire much quicker)
scu98rkrFree MemberDoes any one reckon you could fit in a hour of footy a week round a decent MTB training plan.
I used to do a few footy games a week but I can only make one a week now.
However the footy really tends to leave me with a lot of muscle strains and tired out compared to running/cycling + injuries occur alot more often.
Does anyone who gets any decent results in MTBing play any contact sports on a weekley basis.
scu98rkrFree MemberI spent a few years racing (4 i think) I was pretty pants but I got a little better. My best position was something like 6th on the first lap, but finishing 13th out of 100ish in a gorrick at crowthorne. Unfortunately I got a bit ill after that and never seem to have got back.
In the gorrick u get a medal if in top 10% @(expect for fun) so pretty close to that but still millions and millions of miles off competing for the number 1 spot.
The problem was that in pretty much all categories the top riders were lapping in the same time.
Really in my mind there should be no ages categories. Just ability.
Ie Fun, Then something C**p, Average , Open , Expert Elite.
That way u’d have a chance of actually moving up the categories and getting near the front positions even if your not going to be that good a rider in the end.
scu98rkrFree MemberAnything defined as a national cycle way, should be well finished and as straight and direct as possible. Or else how is it a nation cycle way.

scu98rkrFree MemberThe thing is if this works so well why would anyone buy the shimano 11-40 cassette (or front mech) ?
I’d have tought shimano would have managed to work in some sort of incapability myself.
scu98rkrFree MemberGo for the boardman not heard any issues with parts wearing quickly there the same parts as any other bike. Good fork for the price.
Only thing I’ve say is with 319 + 650b the wheels are likely to be fairly heavy.
scu98rkrFree MemberAldi gloves, best winter gloves I’ve tried.
The problem with most other winter gloves is I dont seem to have any feel in them.
The aldi ones, keep my hands much warmer than standard gloves, but still allow me to ride off road properly.
scu98rkrFree MemberI have a top peak beam rack for sale is you are interested.
I am scu98rkr at google mail
email me if you want pictures.
scu98rkrFree MemberIt was actually a duracell but I through the battery away.
I’ve had mine of the bike over a year now and well used with that.
scu98rkrFree Memberany pictures? have you stripped and cleaned out any leaked fluid/ acid from within? if the switch is dry around all the contacts then it is probably damaged the internals and not worth repairing.
Its quite difficult to get in there will try and clean a bit better again.
scu98rkrFree MemberI had a random from South Africa Kudos 2 of my (fairly poor) rides. You can see his rides from with out following him. He appears to be a real cyclist.
scu98rkrFree Memberremove soliders + families = more housing for others ?
How did moving the BBC help ? Presumably by creating jobs else where.
How would moving the MOD be any different it would be creating jobs else where.
scu98rkrFree MemberPeople are always on about rebalancing the economy away from London.
I cant see why all MOD land in the south east is nt sold and their bases moved to some where else.
The MOD needs large areas of land and the SE is too congested.
Also the land their bases sit on must be worth a hell of a lot in terms of housing development.
Surely they’d actually make money moving away.
Its a win win.
scu98rkrFree MemberFront Suspension is better than Rigid for general XC riding end of.
You just need to learn to get used to it.
However increasingly it seems to me if you going to have front suspension you might as well have rear suspension. Its not like full sussers are super expensive any more.
The only time you’d really need a Front Sus only bike is for jumping / free ride.
Saying that I also use a rigid 29er for easier trails just to make it a bit more exciting.
scu98rkrFree MemberWithout spending silly money, your best bet would be to go out for a mountain bike ride.
true I used my 29er for my commute today but would like my road bike back.
scu98rkrFree Memberok cheers guys sound like I just need to wait or I could flat bar it that might be easiest
scu98rkrFree MemberI’d agree with the “ignore the New Forest” comment. There is obviously lots of bridleway riding in the nearby in South downs and if you looking for woody/heathy/sandy(ish) singletrack, there plenty to the east ie Swinley,MOD land, Tunnell hill, porridgepot hill, Minely Manor, Ceasar’s Camp (near Fleet) etc etc
QECP is a bit of a drive away but is always improving and there are also 2 mini downhill venues ie Rogate + that one in the old quarry near Froyle which is very close (forgotten the name of it now).
scu98rkrFree MemberI dunno, I do think some easily destroyed trails should be down graded from bridleways as the horses too easily destroy them. But i also think footpaths should be opened to cyclists as the same time.
scu98rkrFree Memberah I see they actually physically have an Shimano SLX cassette in there. Its not their equivalent to SLX I missed that. Cheers
scu98rkrFree MemberI noticed a difference between 170 and 180 cranks on the BMX – in particular, the first sprint out of the gate. I found it easier to get the power down and accelerate.
presumably 180 was easier ?
scu98rkrFree Memberactually I’ve just checked my stats and the fastest time was actually on the 29er with road wheels (same wheels I now use on the CX).
That suggests obviously the tyres are the important thing. The position much less important.
Remember through my 29er has rigid fork with a low front end and narrow bars so position might not be too different in terms of wind resistance but its just so much better off road.
scu98rkrFree MemberMy times on a Scandal 29er (Carbon Fork, stans crest with 1.9″ bontrager XR-1 + narrow carbon bars) are almost exactly the same as on my cross bike I recently brought.
According to Strava I’ve only managed to beat my 14 mile commute time on my 29er once on CX.
This maybe partly because I’ve always been a MTB and im not a confident and cant get as much power uphills on my CX. This might not apply to you.
Therefore I might be tempted to say go for the 29er to me at least the difference on a real road commute (ie with round about and thing you need to slow down for) is minimal but the difference riding off road is immense.
If you want I can add you as a follower on Strava/Velorider so you can see the comparison of the stats between the 2 bikes.
scu98rkrFree MemberI’d quite like an 11-40 tooth with a 38T front chainring.
with 11-36 i either find I struggle to get up hills or I spin out on the road one or the other.
scu98rkrFree Memberprobably I can do this on my router. I’ve plugged in a usb stick as a test. I tend to find it a bit crashy on my router.
My is an O2 box II I think.
A dedicated NAS might be better.
scu98rkrFree MemberI have to say I wish I hadnt spent the extra on my smart TV.
Admittedly its just a toshiba. But they seem to have already given up on the platform on my TV and there are no more updates and moved to a new system.
Might make more sense to buy a box ie a Roku perhaps ?
scu98rkrFree MemberI ve been a post doc previously. Yeah its casual round the uni but I’d still wear a suit to an interview.
scu98rkrFree MemberThis is all very serious, but what should we actually do to protect our selves and our loved ones ?
most of us are like sheep 1984 and need some one to lead us.
