Alot of jobs in Science dont have a wage advertised.

    Im never sure why really.

I think they just expect you to want to work there and in the field they are offering and wage wont difference !!!

    Again Flow,

Ie doing something difficult ie just on the edge of your abilities, but actually finding it quite easy/automatic at the time u do it

Also scoring a team goal in footy is good, scoring a team goal that involves flow is even better !

    But this is very rare

Feeling the animal tense under you when you hear a revving engine

There was no info on this in the driving test (there needs to be and cycle info too actually people should just ride a bike).

I presume you should slow down for horse’s but then to pass you need to rev your engine to get past ?

I dont want to be spending all day on the other side of the road when over taking surely that is dangerous ?

there needs to be more focus on what is sustainable.

What a rights of way is classified as currently seem very random.

Basically because the difference between a footpath/bridleway/BOAT was just decided by a a series of civil servants in the 50’s.

The current thinking seems to be if its a bridleway/BOAT and its not sustainable it needs to be repaired to a standard so it is sustainable.

Personally I think all rights of way should be reclassified on sustainability.

MTBer either need to be classed with walkers as they are so similar or have their own group they are not comparible to horse’s see below.

    average walker weights 70kg
average MTB 80 kg + 20 kg average.
    average horse rider 500kg + 70kg
    average 4×4 1500kg +

Alot of trails in clay areas should only be bridleways in the summer.

Hi Njee cheers for the advice. Sound like I can stick with what I have maybe have a look at the Burts too.

Have got XR1s (the bike came with them), but never used them. Bit pointless IMO – heavier than a Ron, less tread than a Burt!

I think I’ve got some really old version of the XR1 they dont do anymore. They are crazy light and so quick on the road (I also tried some XR0 but they just fall apart too easily :] )

Hi Njee, this year I did the gorricks on my 29er.

I had a choice of 2.25 Racing Ralphs or 1.9 Bontrager team issue X1.

The X1 are great in the summer for linking up bits of trail + road at high pressure. However I would nt consider them for a race or proper offroad.

So I used the 2.25 Racing Ralphs.

Assuming I like spending money, for next years spring series (assuming its reasonable dry again) do you reckon it would be worth buying some 2.1 racing ralphs ? Or something similar ?

I like the idea of it automatically producing “overall” results as this is something Time Laps doesnt do.

However it need to group correctly.

Ie group all 3 laps races, group all 4 laps races.

At the moment (almost) any one doing a 2 lap race is placed ahead of a 3 lap category etc etc

As an employer/more senior guy I would rather a better skilled grad than someone with a bit of this experience.

However his background sounds like their an electronic engineerer, so if there was any maths required in the programming they’d probably be much better suited.

They are equally blighted by the fact that too many if the ones that are interested are of the chocolate box/pickled in aspic mentality

True, but the ability to monetise their visits is very limited, I suspect many of the other visitor profiles would be easier to turn into local spend and thereby support the rural economy – one of the unsurprising things is that people are less bothered when they see local benefits

I think your kinda missing my point. My point is tough.

I come from a vaguely rural midland location, I’ve moved down south for work as thats where all the jobs are, my wife is from ashtead in Surrey originally.

As London is now the main point of jobs growth in the country, part of the role (not all) of the country side around london is as a chocolate box/play ground for londoners.

You cant expect to keep people pended up in that sh*thole (although it is much better than it was) all working week and not allow them to enjoy a bit a of the countryside at the weekends ?

The fact they dont understand the countryside or view it as pickled in aspic or do actual damage due to their numbers is frankly unavoidable, when u have a city of 8million people.

    londons population is growing
cycling (specifically recreational road cycling) is becoming more popular
organised “events” are becoming more popular
organised sporting “events” are becoming hugely more popular

Theres little the couple of 100,000 people who live in the surrey hills can do about it against the 8 million or so people who live in London.

They cant expect to have there cake and eat it any more, ie live in extremely nice countryside but still be within 30 mins train journey of central london.

To be honest people living just outside london (me included) are lucky that the vast majority of people in London are either unaware or uninterested in the country side that isnt that far from their homes.

At the moment its generally white middle class professionals who attend these events is the rest of Lonond decided to turn up you wouldnt be even able to contemplate driving around the surrey hills.

Thing to remember in the South East the soil type plays a big role in “MTB”.

The soil in the chilterns (north + west) of maidenhead is very clayey.
This is great in the summer long natural rides (but not much gnar). if you get a wet winter can easily become unridable. (its not been too bad this winter last winter was alwful).

The soil to the south of bracknell (ish) is much more sandy and there is some very good woodsy undulating tight twisty mtbing all year round. Swinely forest (almost a trail centre is here).

The bit in between Maidenhead and bracknell is flat and good for road riding.

The problem is there is no north south train line.
Train lines in the south east tend to be in/out of london.
Therefore there is the an east west train line.

I see no point for you commuting on the train your not going to be closer to better mtbing.

    I would therefore suggest

    1. live in maidenhead, in the summer evening you can ride out to good natural riding (there are some “DH” trails on Winter Hill)
You can then ride/drive to bracknell/sandy areas for forest riding when u fancy it.

    2. Live further south ie Bracknell area ish.
You then need to ride/drive to work. You will be able to get out in the forests for good riding all year.

The train is not going to help.

You can see the areas for good MTBing under 15 on this map
    UK geology

Alternatively look at this for areas for MTBing. There isan area norht of maidenhead near cookham which is good.

    DPD are my least favourite.

All the others just seem to leave the package behind my car or just chuck it other the gate.

DPD never do this. Then when u go to the site to collect they keep demanding 2 forms or identification.

I’ll only have my passport and will refuse to hand over even though its clearly me.

The second bit of identification they want is a bill, so I’ll show them a bill on my phone.

There’ll refuse to take it and ask for a paper bill but who gets paper bills anymore ???!?!?!?!?

I did 2013 and a lot at Eastnor.

2013 course did have some pointless up’s that unless you were very fit were nigh on impossible.

However it looked to have promise unfortunately I missed 2014.

I did enjoy the course at eastnor when it was dry.

Probably greatest achievement was our team “raced” all night at 2012 which most of been the worse mayhem ever.

Its a shame they cant seem to do it somewhere with more sandy soil.

I like the 24 hour format you get to spend some great time with your mates sitting around chatting / eating + drinking then u do a bit of cycling.

    rubbish.

I got a gum infection just as I was starting to get some decent times in race wise.

I just could nt seem to get rid of it, and even when I had I still felt pretty c**p.

Although it never stopped me riding totally, its taken me about 4 years to get back to the times I was doing just before, so 4 years treading water.

At whittington heath near lichfield the outside edge is kinda an unofficial MTB trail. Its going to have HS2 run through the middle of it any how.

In fact theres quite a few bridleways / paths I can think of going past the edge of golf course already.

If you want to recover quickly.
Then taking paracetamol/ibuprofen is accutally not advised.

Fever is part of the bodies immune system and it helps iradicate virus’s quicker.

For a fairly healthy adult the only reason to take paracetamol/ibuprofen is to reduce the pain of the fever so you can get on with doing other things. However this can slow down how long it takes to recover overall.

Do you want a fast tyre, or not?

But cookci doesnt say he wants a fast tyre. He says he wants to drop frame height ?

    scu98rkr
    Free Member

Trying to drop frame height but changing tyres seems a bit mental.

Putting some 650b wheels in is probably the best suggestion yet.

    I have some XR0 and XR1 tyes in 1.9″.

The XR0 get ripped to shreds quick easily there really are a race only tyre, and they have basically no grip.

    The XR1 “I” love.

They are great for summer riding in the chilterns but I would nt use em in winter.

I would only use them if your doing a bit of road or something more similar to CX.
There not “proper” mtb tyres by today standards.

A very long term solution. But plant some conifer trees near by ?

The soild is very clay-ey near me, but I notice the areas with the Confer trees are much drier and they evenutally seem to alter the soil some how. Make it more brittle and better draining.

Also I think the needles dropping make it alot more acidic and the dry needles seem alot better to ride on that the yearly drop of leaves from decidious trees.

Im 100% that its not the soil is different where the conifers are but that it is the confiers that change it as you can see the effect in a very small area.

Might not be much use for you, but it you stay in the area ur kids might benefit.

yep, like I said I’ve managed to mount quite alot of MTB tyres before.

Mainly Schwalbe on Stans Marathons or 29er Stans Crests.

I’ve also mounted a 2013 25mm schwalbe tyre (cant remember exact version) on this rim before, this is a 28mm schwalbe “ONE” tyre. Supposedly the first “properly” tubeless road tyre.

It really doesnt seem to be hooking up at all.

have you got 2 layers of tape installed?

Yes, I believe so. They came from Charlie the Bike Monger with “2 layers installed”.

However I’ve been having problems and I did install another layer of tape on one wheel (where I think the was only 1 layer). Im not 100% sure which now.

I assume 2 layers is optimal I dont want to go accidently installing 3 layers ?
