My nephew has started saying “I’ll kill you” when some one does something he doesn’t like.

He was 3 the other day but I think this started when he was about 2.5.

The funny thing is he doesn’t say much at all, he picked up speaking much later than his cousins.

Often the only thing he tends to say is “CAR !”.

After saying it he then goes back to looking sweet and Innocent with a second, so its actually quite funny. Obviously if you then laugh at him, he’s likely to say it again.

So where he picked this up and decided to use it from Im not sure ????

“who told officers she was unaware a collision”

She’s clearly not safe to drive could of easily killed the rider/child.

Obviously its an accident, but her license needs to be revoked immediately.

The problem with this country is we’ve allowed our self to get into the position that its seen that people CANT survive without a car.

By banning her from driving you’d actually be helping to restructure this attitude.

    20 mp on SS

Thanks for posting this is good to see real evidence.

So I take back alot of what I am saying.

Im unable to say why Im not able to achieve this my self.

I find myself riding at too low a cadence on my Road bike too,
I do try to match my pedal stroke to to the rider in front but I will to return to a lower cadence quite easily. Some days Im better than others.

This may be one of the reasons Im unable to take to 1x. Its actually the higher gears I often miss.

You can easily pedal a comfy cadence at 20mph with 32-11

I do need to work on getting my cadence higher particularly on the road bike.
But I can not easily spin at 20 mph on a 32-11.

This is my fatest ever ride on a MTB. I was coming back from somewhere completely on the road and I was probably quite wind assisted. And some was downhill.

    link to Ride

This is on a 29er so already the bike is geared higher. But I have a 42 front / 11 rear.

I have managed to average 17.6 mph, there are periods (on the flat) where im consistently getting 18-19 mph there is no way I would have managed to do this on a 32-11.

I hear alot of people saying they can easily get 20mph on a MTB, but I very rarely managed to consistently average 20mph on my road bike !

yeah I really like the idea of 1x but what I really want now adays are bikes that are there and just ready to work.

And I dont really want to choose my terrain based on my bike.

Some terrain will be road and I want a high top speed where as at other times I’ll really need a low gear.

10 speed is the most annoying system. Really its far to little for 1x system, but too much for a 2x system.

Something like 26/39 (SRAM) or 28/42 (SRAM) paired with 11-34 (9 speed) out back should give all the gears you want.

Its kinda annoying shimano produced the 10 speed stuff. Would of been much better to have all the 10 speed extras ie clutch mech extra on a 9 speed setup. As the cassette would of been lighter.

Then shimano could of jumped straight to 11 speed in an attempt to 1x system.

This thread says more about SingletrackWorld than the bike industry.

When I stated using SingletrackWorld world 15 years ago I was 21 single and excited about almost any development in MTBing, was looking forward to many more exciting MTB adventures.

If any MTB parts broke I had plenty of time to fix them and was excited to try something new.

Im now 36 have a house and kid, really what I want is a MTB (or 2 really), that just works and keep working and is working when I try to take it out of the garage.

Everytime something breaks its a fuss to repair or source new parts.

Aslo even though Im looking forward to much more MTBing and still enjoy a “GOOD” ride as much as possible, some of the initial excitement, discovery and enjoyment has faded.

Therefore in the wet winter months I’ve been doing alot more road cycling.

As some one states above if you log into any MTB group on facebook there is still “real buzz of positivity and fun”.

Alot of the singletrackworld users are older riders and alot has been on this site for many many years, hence we’ve turned into a bunch of jaded cynical miserable old g*ts.

hey guys, our company is looking to move to chef/puppet.

We need to organise some training for ourselves. Any advice on which to go for.

I have the minutest bit of ruby experience. The other sys admin none.

I looked at some chef scripts etc.

The company is quite small and there is likely to a team of 3 linux sysadmins working on it.

I’d say we all a few years experience.
Im mainly a scientific Linux user and mainly manage the Grid Engine here and integration between the Dev Team and use of the Grid.

Similar to you my wife and me have been together a long time.

I don’t think she was anywhere as near bothered by it as your girlfriend. But she would go on about getting a boob job every now and then.

She’s extremely pretty and petit, I suppose her breast were on the smaller side.

Anyway we recently had a kid and she’s breast feeding.

She’s sprung right back into shape but her breasts are really pretty big now like not massive massive but a proper good size.

She used to be a really good runner, but when you see her trying to jog to catch a train or something like that you can see its really affected her gait and movement.

Anyhow if she’d have a breast job, they’d be massive now and probably really heavy and frankly would nt look right at all.

I was really surprised how much the pregnancy effect them, so if you wife is ever planning on having kids I’d take that into account.

“would be a cheaper option “

The objective is not to be cheap the objective is to be quick.

Ie the tubes and all tools for the correct bag should already be packed.

Unless the tube has been used then it is changed at the end of a ride ready for the next ride.

In my case eventually I found it easier to have a saddle bag on each bike with the correct tube and tools constantly attached.

There is also a pump attached to each bike.

Its not a cheap option I admit.

I never use an iron, I just hang shirts up rather than put them in the drier.

However often certain shirts/jumpers do look like they need an iron.

I deal with this by just putting them on and forgetting about it.

It does mean I look a mess sometimes, but I find it just does really bother me that much.

    scu98rkr

If you have several different bikes this is much less faff.

    ie Road, 26″, 29er

The problem with the camelbak is that you end up with the wrong tube for the ride. Unless you have 3 camelbaks with 3 different tubes in them.
However camelbaks tend to be expensive and my mrs. tends to get angry if I have 3 lying around the house.

I found its best if I can get the correct tube on the correct bike some how. Ie seatbag or whatever. I also make sure the correct tools are with the bike. (which does mean u need to have several sets of tools I admit)

So then you just need to take the bike and you have all the gear ready straight away.

Im not a biologist so could do with some help here.

The reason Im not totally convinced this will be as big a catastrophe as everyone is saying is that life is very keen to stream line.

There’s always advantages and disadvantages to each mutation in any organism.

Surely if any bacteria has all these antibiotic resistant adaptions it will require more energy that a non resistant strain and therefore is likely to breed slower in an environment without Antibiotics that a more stream lined bacteria and therefore will be out competed.

In highly competitive environments, life very rarely keeps a mutation if it is not needed otherwise we’d all be superhuman athletes. In our case it has proved evolutionary more favorable to have weedy humans who use less resources and therefore require less energy.

There’s no reason we could nt be stronger our ancestors were and almost all remaining apes are also stronger than us. But once the human brain arrived and we could use spears etc we started to lose our strength as it was no longer vital.

I think really the OP is looking at something just south of Reading. Or near the M4 as he is heading from the south.

If he can drive to the george / town he might as well just drive to the hilton and have breakfast there.

Realistically south Reading/Whitley is that great and no where really spring to mind.

I suppose the Morrisons on Rose Kiln Lane will be open.

What you really want ask is does any one know a place for breakfast in 3 mile Cross, Spencers Wood or Shinfield ? and Re title the thread.

As I’ve grown older and wiser,

I would say go for the job with the most money / least hassle.

I’ve decided frankly work is dull what ever you do the objective is to get the most money for the least hassle.

This will enable you to enjoy the rest of your life with out so much to worry about.

On the other hand Im not suggesting going for jobs which pay alot but increase stress levels too much.

Cannock is better than Swinely imo

I’ve live near Swinely and really like it I at the same time.

Both are Sandstone based forest with smallish hills.

In someways both are similar to Thetford, except of course Thetford has NO hills and hence both are much much better than thetford.

    Is she really sleeping ?
In some ways thats quite impressive for some one of that age.

My gran 87 cant sleep for more than a few hours at a time.

Tends to just sleep around the house both day and night for a couple of hours at a time.

I think its probably more likely she’s not sleeping and hence just lying around for 12 hours to try and get up to the 6-7 hours she needs.

In my opinion in this country this all comes back to housing + accommodation this is the main expenditure for almost all workers.

For a totally free market to work you’d need to be totally free to build as many houses as needed.

Workers would be free to build house, landlords, developers everyone, this would reduce the cost of accommodation considerably and therefore the wages would be appropriate.

The problem at the moment is there seems to be an inexhaustible supply of cheap labour with a very limited supply of housing.

Therefore for people to live a reasonable life the system needs to be managed some how.

Whether this is “tax credits” or a “minimum wage” is kinda besides the point.

The money either needs to be taken out of the company via tax and returned to the workers from the state or the government forces the companies to pay a reasonable amount in the first place.

This leads to much the same outcome and much the same results in terms of costs for the company.

Therefore which solution you support at the time needs to be ideological and this can change.

In the 80’s the Right were dead against the minimum wage and noncompetitive nationalised companies and the power of unions, who helped keep workers wages high. So they were keen to privatise the companies and leave people on the dole.

Unfortunately they then realised that the large number’s of unemployed or partly-employed people were dependent on the state for welfare + later tax credits. They felt like these people would naturally vote for a welfare government ie left wing.

So now the right wing are arguably even more in favour of a minimum wage than the left wing as they think people will see they wages coming from private enterprise rather than the government.

Its all about trying to control peoples attitudes really rather than anything else.

Hopefully in future the size of the Economy will continue to grow but the number of available workers will fall (which is what happened from about 1900 – 1970) this will give power back to the workers again.

What strikes me about myself in my dreams is my complete lack of anxiety/worry when presented with crisis situations.

When I was a kid I used to have dreams exactly like this.

    In my dreams,

I’d be in a superstore that was flooding and a giant Kracken was at the bottom of the escalators-
no Problem I’d deal with it

    or

Ronald McDonald turned out to be the devil and the world was being consumed by fire and all around me.
no Problem I’d deal with it (was confident I was faster than him)

    or

Being chased by secret agents through a forest
no Problem I’d deal with it (I was better at hiding than them)

However my “nightmares” were completely normal events like my cousins getting sticky food on my spectrum or my girl cousins invading my bedroom which was a “boys” space.

I’d often wake in a cold clammy sweat feeling very worried indeed.

quite odd looking back at it.

have u watched all the episodes ?

I’d say the people who made it to the last episode are all pretty tough.
    It was nt easy.

Arguably the challenges have got easier as it went on.

Now of the episodes have been too aerobically tough, although they was alot of carrying.

But the first episode (with the nazy seals) just had them jumping in and out of cold water tanks at night, then sitting in the sea etc

I know I could nt have done that, I’ve always found it you get wet and cold its very difficult to get your self going again no matter how fit + strong ur feeling.

I would say I learnt to use SPD’s pretty quickly as most do.
    Weeks – Month.

But looking back I was fairly uncomfortable on them for years.
I just could nt seem to unclip my foot as enough.
Also I had a tendency to use an inward motion rather than outward.

Anyhow looking back 13 years later Im so much more comfortable with clips.

Even for thoose who say they got it straight away they’ll probably find them selves more comfortable later.

    shimano do wide fitting shoes.

I’ve got some of the mtb bike ones. They are wide but they tend to be wide through out, even the ankle.

So I’d more properly describe them as shimano fat foot.
Not the perfect fit if you have wide feet but thinnish ankles.

However I have problems with my left foot if the shoe is tight. Its been fine since using them. I just have to do the buckle up a bit more than normal.

I not tend to get either hot or cold feet though.
They seem no warm that any other shoes I’ve had.

They have lasted well though I would describe them as reasonably strong.

I dont particularly want to do this my self.

But I have friends who have.

I would of assumed they were getting closer to £100,000 a year.

Doesnt seem worth it for £50,000.

Dont forget if you have a wife they may be unlikely to work unless they can do something on the base.

I have had similar reactions to the cyclist when people have got close.

Its often actually when Im relaxed initially plodding on my way and then suddenly something like that happens.

If you honestly think someone is trying to deliberately injure you is it reasonable to stay completely calm ?
