I've seen science jobs posts mainly for university jobs(in Britain) that state you cant have lived in Britain for the last 5 years or something.

I think there trying to balance the teams but seems pretty racist to me. As the people likely to have lived in Britain for the last year are likely to be british people.

I dont know if there much more to the "northshore" than that I only call it that because someone used to have a video on you tube calling it the hopwas northshore.

I think the trashed tents are from parties/rave type things the local kids hold up there.

Hey Rich the "NorthShore" stuff is on top of the middle hill. I've marked it on my map. Its pretty difficult to find for some reason.

Hopwas is definetely night ridable I've done it a couple of times when I've been back at christmas. I'd recommend you familiarized it yourself with it during the day or your get lost.

What you expect someone to come up with a better map that the one I made for you ???

took me at least 3 minutes that

Actually if you've got google earth you can download the kmz of my map.

Then set the elevation to x3 and you can get a better idea of were the trails should be.

Theres no wall just a gate with anti climb paint and then they've just tried to stop access by growing the vegetation very thickly round it, ie brambles etc.

This is surprisingly effective. However there is 360 degrees to approach it from and I havent tried them all.

Also that maps not that exact and I still have trouble finding the "north shore" even though I've been loads of time.

You cant easily get to the spooky house tarmac have done a good job of stopping access to ie anti climb paint barbed wire etc. Still does feel pretty spooky in the evening on your own.

I think its a good idea especially once people have got used to having some kind of computer/console/multimedia device hooked up to there TV.

But from the sound of it they are deliberately trying to limit the number of people connecting because they dont want problem with bandwidth.

This is one advantage broadcasting signals has over streaming it doesnt matter how many devices are connecting within the broadcast area.

Would be better if they charged like £2-£3 and tried to get as many people to connect as possible but sounds like their systems cant handle that.

    Something like this

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=52.649417,-1.742706&spn=0.010011,0.016007&t=h&z=16&msid=118269764725657417170.0004752c654a0778bd890

As far as Im aware the woods are no longer used by the army as Whittington barracks is to become a medical centre could be wrong.

Half of the wood is privately owned by tarmac but just ignore the signs.

Is that right Im sure I've used canti levers with v brakes and had loads to power, (due to longer lever).

But they were very difficult to set as you got very little cable pull so you had to set them up very near the braking surface which was tricky.

Hey Guys people always mention you need to get the Road version of the BB7 what would be the consequence's of using the MTB version ? Not enough modulation ?

Whats the thing that converts the pull ?

"As i said above, there is much more to life than getting to and from work, many people in the countryside live in close proximity to the re place of work but not to other amenities. Not everyone lives in a village either."

My other point is if the price of driving went up theses amenities would start to reppear in the countryside the local village shop would be profitable as people could nt buy food anywhere else etc etc

It would no longer make sense to live away from at least a village/hamlet but as far as I am aware historically this is what the countryside was likely people tended not to live on their own.

What you seem to be suggest is the general public subsidise you so you can live where you want ?

Its not "irrespective of situation" the more you drive the more you pay seems reasonable to me.

"lower incomes be they working or not into the cities and create a countryside full of the middle classes. " but this is true of many areas.

For instance my wife was born and grew up in a very nice village/town in Surrey. We could never afford to live where here parents live.

I come from Lichfield in Staffordshire and its probably only recently I could afford to move back there.

"scu – i work in multiple locations, all over the world. "

I not sure if this is a joke but if it isnt then surely you just need to live near an airport then you wouldnt need to drive so far.

That or company need to invest in video conferencing.

Like I said my comments dont really apply to jobs with multiple locations obviously these sort of jobs are going to require traveling and will be sensitive to fuel costs no matter what.

Most people who work in the city dont want to work in an office either I know I dont.

I dont see how this has got into a town v city debate. My point was that public transport cant be expected to work with out some kind of transport hubs. Therefore people who want to use it need to live near these hubs.

If your complaining that you NEED to drive to work. Then either work or you are located in the wrong place and if cars hadnt of existed either you or work would not currently be based where it is.

This is true of both cities and the countryside.

If cars didnt exist villages in the countryside would still be very important. Village shop schools etc would be busier as people would not be able to travel to town to buy food etc.

yes what do you work as ? we need to know, I still dont currently see how you cant live closer to work if you unless you work in multiple locations

"I don't get your counter argument either
you are aware that people work in the countryside aren't you, it's not just for people to commute into cities to work. I think you also need to distinguish between the countryside and the commuter belt.
You pay more to live near a station if you are in a commuter area, you clearly have a very odd perspective on countryside housing costs. Go and find an affordable house in Devon.
i take it from you counterargument that you live in and or work in or around London?
If as you say you choose to live in the countryside despite cost then who ends up living in the countryside? "

Hi Michael you have are right about where I work/live. But what are you suggesting you work as are you suggesting you work in multiple locations ? Like a farm vet or somethings. If your job demands traveling long distance then I agree there is little you can do about it.

But I still think my arguments will apply to rural, semi rural and urban areas.

"everyone wins apart from those who are forced to use cars by where they live. taxing fuel/pay per mile is incredibly discriminatory to those that do not have access to regular public transport and therefore have no choice but to drive.
ah hell, lets all just live in one big city, that'd be great. "

I hate this argument and I dont want to live in one big city either (although I could see the arguments for it from a green perspective)

Look you choose to live where you live and if you didnt take into account the public transport system thats your fault. Public transport can only work with a system of hubs and people have to get to those hubs. You cant have public transport everywhere or it becomes uneconomical.

As for you paying for more this is probably very untrue. I bet your housing costs are considerably cheaper because you live away from public transport. I recently brought a house and paid a premium to be near a train station. You saved this initial outlay and may have to be paying it now in fuel.

Or to put it another way if you didnt have a car would you have chose to live where you live probably not.

Also there doesnt seem to be any guidance on how to join the road in the first place.

If the road is busy are you meant to just plonk your bike down on it and get on. Or start moving on the pavement and then join the traffic.

    Just looking at this

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_069837

And its says you can not cycle on the pavement. I usually roll onto the pavement to get to the front door of my work/house house, but Im not cycling just rolling is this fine ?

"And this confuses me, I've never once had any sensation from spicey foods passing through me, I'd always assumed it had been broken down during digestion. "

Some spicy food break down when they go through me but many definitely dont. This can be seriously painful.

Again I like rapid rise like people say seems the spring helps you more where you need it.

But also seems to make more sense with trigger shifters.

Now on both sides the bit you click with you finger makes riding easier and the bit you push with you thumb makes it harder.

    Seems more intuitive to me

    scu98rkr

I disagree (admittedly you are right that I also always get confused between adductor and abductor)

If this has been on going for a year it is unlikely that this is just an adductor strain that happened because you just happened to put too much pressure on it when the muscle wasnt warm.

Which is basically what goan is describing. I think it is probably more likely to be the more visible element of a more unlying problem.

Now Im not suggesting you do nothing or panic or spend lots of money at the pyhsio Im just suggesting it may go away come back go away come back and then one day it wont go away. Therefore doing some exercise such as core strenghening would be beneficial, now pretty obviously stretching is part of this but I would think about what muscles you are streching before you do it.

It is human nature to do what is easiest which often means you end up strenghting your strong muscles and streching your flexible muscles which is often the opposite of what you want to do.

My point is if this is an on going problem there is probably no simple answer therefore looking at pyhsio room as good as it is is probably not worth will. You need to understand why you are getting repeatly getting this injury which is likely only you or a very good pyhsio will know.

    scu98rkr

    Thats complete **** Goan.

An abductor strain with no complications can be mild.

For instance a First degree strain I should really make no difference to riding like you say.

If the first poster has a 3rd degree strain (ie complete) break he would be likely to be in agony and be unable to walk to begin with.

However from my experiences and the OP description of it being an ongoing injury I would imagine the problem is not really the groin strain the OP is merely describing it as such as that is currently where the problem is causing obvious pain.

And it is much more likely to be some general problem in the pelvis, hip or lower back.

I had a problem with my right abductor/back which stopped me playing footy / seriously cycling for a bout 2 years.

Its difficult to describe what the actual problem was and like most of these on going injury (i had kept getting very small adductor strains for years) there will be no quick fix.

It is likely something to do with you movement (in general plus on the bike) is putting excessive strain on this muscle leading it to shorten and eventually tear.

Like dirty girl says could be the left hip bone moves excessively and you stabilise it using the abductor.

Personally from my experience even the pyshio is unlikely to be able to say exactly what it is.

It is likely you DO need to improve you core strength however this is an on going exercise not a simply do 50 sit up magically better it may take many years not just to improve your core strength but to unconsciously use these muscles to stabilise your body when do exercise.

I will imagine the pyhsio will tell you to do these exercises and you may not feel it is making any difference but it probably will in the long term and even if it doesnt it is a good idea.

I'd say cwm carn will be far too difficult for first time unless you know shes quite good anyway.

My GF's favourite trails are swinley and follow the dog at cannock.

Shes pretty fit (runs half marathons etc…) but really really doesnt like anything technical.

Probably pretty similar to when you went 2 years ago. You can see which bits are closed by looking at the trail map on chase trails.

I wouldnt say its ever been a mud fest. Well then my local trails are the chilterns

phase II will be opening late summer/autumn so if you only want to go once I'd wait till then

Why is British any more or less politically correct that English ?

I've never really got that point ?

Surely originally people from these islands were nothing.

Then they referred to them selves as what every tribe they belonged to.

Then the romans tried to either get people to refer to them selves as Roman or British.

Then there was a period of confusion, eventually people across the area now called england took on a Anglican identity but surely at lot of this was either forced or taken on for political reasons or so local lords could be more POLITICALLY correct.

Another way of looking at this is people around the Edinburgh area who also talked English decided to call them selves Scottish which basically used to mean Irish for political reasons.

Then when the Empire started to be formed and England and Scotland were united the political establishment got the idea of using the old Roman idea of British as a way to unite people.

Surely as the British tag is older than the English tag it might be may be more authentic ? Or maybe not.

Generally also tags are political in nature or you'd just be you.
