Im all for stereotyping people, but I just dont think this adds up.

Far more likely all the bully's didnt have 20/20 vision but refused to wear their specs because this made them look uncool. The resulting migraines+poor sight lead them to get low marks at school this probably made them so angry they felt the need to take their aggression out on people who actually wore specs.

Ie "Those who shout the loudest are probably the most guilty" I think this a far better statement to start organising a lynch mob from. (probably cos I dont wear glasses)

I took all my mates(25-32 male) round follow the dog (cannock chase) on my stag do was fine. I think there was about 10 of us and plenty of them had never cycled before.

Unless there extremely cautious or somewhat older should be fine.

Also I think new riders like to see that other people riding as it makes them think its a more normal thing to do, and it makes them feel safer.

Plus swinley has a cafe which is always good.

"I am currently at the University of Cumbria based in Ambleside (The lake district). I am currently researching the affect that trail centers are having on the level of adventure in mountain biking."

    Your joking right ?

This cant possibly exist it means the world is even less fair than I thought it was.

Surely swinley is about as easy as it can get and still be called MTBing ?

I mean you dont have to take them on any of the "harder" trails just add in more fire road if needed.

If you dont want to take them MTBing then your asking in the wrong forum really.

What that Schwalbe report shows is that obviously terrain makes the biggest difference to rolling resistance.

On rough terrain the type of tyre makes a big difference and efficiency savings can be made by choosing the correct tyre and pressure.

However on gravel the differences seem to be smaller. In this case surely the differences in the weight of the of the tyre will may be more important. (which Schwalbe say is 4.2W for 500g difference between both tyres.)

Also it would be better if they had
    1. taken into account even larger tyres at some point this have to stop paying dividends.
    2. taken into account rider/bike weight which has to affect the size of tyre needed

It would be interesting to see if a typical race course in the UK say a gorrick was more similar to the meadow or gravel track tested.

And as mentioned there does not appear to be a mud test!

"As above, you wouldn't even think about cheap tyres on the bike so why on a car, i won't skimp on such a crucial part"

I've just gone and brought some reasonably expensive goodyears for my car.
But the reason I buy expensive tyres for my bike is I want to push the bike as far as possible, well as least as far as my skills allow and the tyres really are a limiting factor in some cases.

However I get the feeling SOME car tyres are only going to be limiting factor when pushing the car on a race course. Im not going to be doing that sort of driving and I would imagine if most people drove to the sensibly and to the speed limit you never would really push the tyres so why buy expensive ones ?

Many people buy cheapish tyres for their commuter bikes and frankly thats what my car is a commuter/passenger vehicle not a performance vehicle.

For some one 5'0.5" I think 26" wheels are probably perfect for road/leisure cycling.

But to be honest for off road I'd have thought 24" would be more suited ?

Out of the suggestions above faking your own death definitely sounds like the coolest.

Plus also you probably would nt have to live a lie for too long because she's unlikely to want to get back together with some one who faked their own death.

PS I think your missing the the point of the Jay-Z song. I think he's saying he only just about feels bad for you. I think what he's try to suggest is that real men (read pretend gangster rappers) never have problems with women because there so bling.

"Nothing wrong with taking money for something you can't supply or never had. Call me old fashioned, but it sounds borderline ilegal."

But the whole point is he didnt take any money.

He asked for the payment via cheque but didnt cash them. I imagine this was so he could go to Weston Park say look I've got all these cheques will you let me do the event.

This is a pretty dodgy way of going about things alright but not the same as taking people money.

"I've been utterly dead on the bike, no energy and after about 15 minutes of going, I'm lifeless, legs very heavy, struggling to breath comfortably and generally feeling utterly knackered."

This sounds like me last summer.

I'd just moved to a new house and had a train commute to london. I'd play footy afterwork then get the train back.

The first week I felt shattered on the train. So I started bringing a sports drink.
But I gradually felt worse and worse, felt like I was going to pass out on one run.

Also got the out of breath thing one time I was playing footy was nt soo much out of breath.

Anyhow obviously as I cut out sports drinks as they seemed to be related and also sugar in my tea also any squash+fizzy drinks.

Also I tried to eat more low GI foods.

Felt much better very quickly (which could suggest I was just feeling under the weather but pretty sure I wasnt)

Must admit I never went to check my blood but Im pretty sure Im not either of the 2 diabetics. I just dont think foods/drinks with high GI sugars agree with me. To be honest I might have noticed this before the first time I used a sports drink for a race I felt awful but I put it down to other factors.

I actually view time watching the TV as well spent !

I've got a very short attention span for non interactive mediums.

When I do manage to watch TV for more than 5 minutes with out flicking it means theres something I really want to watch on.

Also I very easily get addicted to computer games, so sometimes I'd rather watch TV because after 10 mins or so I'll normally get bored and wonder off to do something useful about the house.

Where as if I start playing CIV IV or something I'll find several hours have gone and I've not done anything I wanted to.

Also if I do watch TV for any length of time I tend to feel well rested, however if I start playing computer games I'll feel tired/groggy afterwards from the concentration bit like a long motorway drive.

Also frankly having kids cant be much fun so maybe it would be better if the misses had time off.

Sorry this sentence came across quite badly I meant being pregnant cant be much fun. I dont really know I've never been pregnant. You might not want to go straight back to work after that but then looking after kids is probably more difficult.

    Basically I agree with you.

Recently I got married and Me and the misses brought a house.

As with many (possibly most) of the couples I know my wife earns more than me.

Personally I dont think we stretched our selves too much on the house we did manage to put down a 25%.

But basically I get £1600 take home pay after travel + taxes. Admittedly I now spend £2850 a year on getting the train into London which if I COULD get job elsewhere I could save. The reason we moved out of London is the wifes job is near Reading so we saved there, plus London is ****.

The mortgage plus council tax + insurance bills are about £1400.

This does nt leave much room and doesnt include mobile phones, car tax, MOTs etc.

Thing is if we had a kid who should take time off to raise the child ?

Obviously it makes more sense for me to as the wife earns 7000 more than me a year.

But she'll have to take maternity leave anyhow and say we have 2 kids thats two periods of 6 months. There's no saying if I quit my job I'd get another to cover us once the second kid is on its way.

Also frankly having kids cant be much fun so maybe it would be better if the misses had time off.

Also supposedly blokes earn more in the end so maybe we're better off with me continuing to work not taking any breaks and hoping to move up. Also I think its still not looked upon as reasonalbe for blokes to take too much time off to bring up kids so would I then struggle to get another job later ?

I can see some people might think its just easier they continue to both work then they know they wont run out of money later.

Trail centres were created by man, man is a species of life found on earth created by evolution, life appears to have started from a random mixing of amino acids on earth sometime in the past, the earth is a planet probably formed from dust particles accumulating as they rotate round the sun, the sun is a star probably formed from regions of molecular density thrown out by an expansion of initial hot and dense conditions from a singularity that was the start of our universe that was known as the big bang.

    Hence trail centers are natural.

Unless of course your a theist and you think that God is actively participating in the creation of trails centers for some higher cause.

Or alternatively you might think they are the Devils work, however in both cases they would be super-natural.

Im not really sure God is a MTBer myself though or why would there be so much mud round where I live ?

I dont think your arguing your point very well yunki.

You seem to be saying cyclists should be baned from ALL a-roads.

You cant possibly mean this or cycling would be impossible as a form of transport.

You say you only drive 2-3 times a year are you saying you only leave your small rural town 2-3 times a year ? Or does it have a good train/bus links ?

I do agree that on SOME roads cyclists and cars cant mix freely with out the potential for an accident rising above what most people would consider reasonable.

Ie on a motorway I would also agree that its not really possible for cyclists + drivers to safely (with in reason) coexist on rural dual carriage ways with national speed limits.

This is because in reality there is not room for a cyclist and 2 vehicle to go side to side across the road. Which means there is always the potential for an accident if one vehicle is over taking another as they both approach the cyclist.

Also if there is a rural dual carriage way there is generally a smaller better road for the cyclist to be on.

However you seem to be a suggesting a thin single lane A road. In this case there may not be another reasonable road to take.

Also if its a thin single lane A road presumably the traffic will be much slower than on a dual carraridge way ?

Wont this be the same as Swinley.

ie most of the time you never bother paying and occasionally you pay for a permit because you feel a bit guilty and want give some money towards trail maintenance.

Im not really sure what the sentence should be but imagine, instead of running the cyclist over the girl accidently shot someone, or she crashed her light aircraft into a house and killed some one.

In these cases no one would argue she should have her gun or aircraft license permentley removed.

In some cases I think this is similar, if it really was an accident why should she go to jail. I dont think its going to help the situation and as mentioned its going to ruin her life which may in turn ruin other peoples life.

What would seem more fair is take away her license permantly however this is seen as such a terrible punishment the judge would prefer to send her to prison which is just a bit strange.

Also people seem to suggest that going to prison gives people time to think and repent over their crime however I think it this case it would be more likely to harden her heart and make her think shes been unfairly treated.

I dont see why your all arguing with DruidH there is lots of bad cycling around.

I would imagine that per hour traveled there is far far more bad cycling than driving however as people have pointed out there are ALOT less fatal accidents from cycling. Basically because cyclists cant go as fast as cars ie cycling is safer so to me its seems less important that there is bad cycling than driving.

Hence why we have a driving test but not a cycling test.

However in some incidences bad cycling can cause an accident involving a car this is bad.

The only thing I'd question is riding on the pavement always bad cycling ?

On dual carriage ways in towns (not inner city ie about reading size) often cycling on the pavement is safer as they are completely empty. So personally in some instances I will do this and maintain it is good cycling.

Mandatory training for drivers is the issue, not the cyclists! The percentage of fatal accidents involving a cyclist and no other vehicles is rather small!

I see more bad cycling on a day-to-day basis than bad driving.

True but I see more bad walking than driving and cycling. Them pedestrians really need to take a test before they use the pavement, they could hmm bump into someone or maybe stub their toe.

    "compulsory rider training "

Not really sure what this option was trying to suggest.

Was it trying to suggest everyone who cycles including kids needs to pass a test !!

Or was it trying to say drivers need to experience cycling as well.

I put other and wrote in cycling section needs to be added to driving test.

I think about £20 or under with BB and line rental is about the best you can do.

Unless you want more TV channels with sky or virgin then you can get a better deal.

    I have standard BT line £12 + O2 broadband £8.

I would nt bother changing if the connection is good.

I'm from Lichfield originally and to say you have seen "thought I'd seen every kind of mud there" suggests you actually have only seen fairly sandy mud that drains quickly.

Have you tried riding in the chilters ? Any where down south ?

Have you ever done mountain mayhem (ledbury) when it rains ?
    That is proper mud.

"2. after coming back from a day in the hills both freezing cold and knackered, collapsed on the sofa. Totall totally exhausted. The guy had hurt his leg so was really crippled, but still got up ran a bath for me, brought me a glass of wine, washed my hair, then left me in peace!"

If he had really hurt his leg properly this is stupidity not romance. Expect a man a man to serve you when he's really in pain is plain selfish if you ask me.
