You seem to be suggesting as mountain mayhem is 'family event', it is not a good place to recruit.

But princibily mountain mayhem is a 24 hour endurance event invloving moutain bikes, not a family day out.

Some of the key skills to be a good solider surely are fitness/endurance/coping with sleep deprivation.

All of these are tested at events like mayhem, surely its better for the army to recruit people who are actually like to get through the training ?

All very true, but realistically if you sunddenly got rid of the american army, of which currently the british army seems to be some kind of division would the world be a better place ?

Probably not, so the army still needs to recruit.

it looks nice and everything but seems a bit pointless. The clearance is no better than before but you've lost a chainring. I suppose it stops your trousers getting dirty.

whats the price ? Are you saying £1 a day ?

How can something go from being free to £1 a day ?

    more like £1 a week.

Beer, have a couple of beers when you get back and it changes from a stingy feeling to a warm buzzing all over your forearms. Its actually quite pleasant.

Personally I think its pretty hard to disagree with simons statement above. However I have noticed Simons method of arguing appears to be
    1. Act like a really ****
    2. Home in on one person and really try and **** them off
    3. If the conversation starts to deviate any from Simon try and make some comments which will **** everyone off to remind them the conversation is about Simon.
    4. When people are really ****ed off and are starting to assume your a complete troll hit them with some well thought out arguments which will surprise them every more as they'd previously assumed you only had one brain cell.

Its an interesting approach I must say and it seems to be somewhat effective on a internet forum, although I'd wonder how it would work in real life.

if your planning on changing tyres regularly I would nt bother. Especially at Mayhem, what you need to do is buy a second set of cheap wheels and stick your mud tyres on them.

This will save you loads of agro at MM. Its not like your need a set of racing wheels when the mud really get going as your be carrying your bike anyhow.

i thought the whole point of the stans kit was to use normal tyres as they are a lot lighter than UST tyres ?

I have a pair of dry 2 2.3 on my rigid. I've been riding these seem fine. Obviously all the riding has been in the dry.

I have just put a pair of dry 2.0 on some wheels tubeless literrally today.

I havent riden them yet, probably will tomorrow.

I have an old pair of XC/AT 2.0 on my main bike which I love but are wearing down. I have brought a pair of XC/AT from on-one to replace these with very soon.

In my mind there are 3 ways of doing things. Especially tasks you dont really want to be doing.

    1. Do nt do it !
Advantages – Maximum time available to do something else you want to.
Disadvantages – Job is not done at all.

    2. Do it properly !
Advantages – Job is done to the best of your abilities 100% complete.
Disadvantages – Minimum time available to do something else you like.

    3. Maximum Efficiency – Do the 90% of the job that takes 10% of the time. Ignoring the 10% of the job that takes 90% of the time.
    Example – Putting clothes away
Throw all the clothes in the wardrobe with out sorting/folding/hanging them. Room is clean, wardrobe/cupboard doors are closed so I dont walk into them during the night when I want a pee.
Advantages – Almost the maximum time to do something else, most of the job is done if badly.
Disadvantages – Clothes are crumpled but who cares.

But my wife has found a third way similar to the above example

    4. Minimise Efficiency – Do the bit of the job that takes 90% of the time, leaving the remaining bit that takes 10% of the time to finish the job properly.
    Example – Putting clothes away
Neatly fold all the clothes putting them in drawers/cupboard but be careful to leave one item hanging out of drawers/doors, and then do not close them properly
Advantages – Clothes are put away.
Disadvantages – Room still looks a mess, drawers etc are left open so I bang my knee in the middle of the night leading to massive amounts of shouting. Minimum time to do something else you want to.

This example sounds similar the guy gets buys the cameras, gets to the location, braves the weather, sets up the website etc etc all the boring stuff that takes ages then doesnt bother with the exciting finishing bit of taking good pictures a little bit more effort would make it so mych more worthwhile.

To me it sounds like he's expended 90% of the effort but still only got pictures that are 10% as good as someone who expended 100% of the effort.

Working at imperial I've been to more lectures on improving efficiencies than on using hydrogen ! No one is talking about hydrogen anymore maybe electric cars using renewable but not hydrogen. You'd have to build a whole new infrastructure to transport it not to mention storing large quantities of hydrogen a high pressure probably isnt a good idea. On the other hand the infrastructure to deliver electricity is already there.

I still think there are things we can do to improve efficiencies. Almost all diesels use turbos now a day. Instead of using a turbo to improve power they can be used to improve efficiency as a turbo is powered by the exhaust gases and energy lost through the exhaust can be recycled. The polo TDI s currently one of the most efficient cars on the road. People are working on trying to reduce the problems with Turbos on petrol engines and they will become standard like with diesel engines once these problems have been sorted.

Also I think weight saving can be made, are we likely to be seeing any more heavy safety features in cars ? I think we've pretty much reached the end of the road on these hopefully the average weight of cars will start to reduce now.

I think the solutions to the transport problems in this country will mainly be sorted by improvements in efficiencies in standard petrol/diesel vechiles, electric vehicles for short/city driving powered by renewables(electric scooters would be ideal for London and help improve air quality).

And I think the biggest change will be working from home, once companies finally get a grasp on internet communications, they'll realise they can save massive amount of money from having much smaller offices but only have staff in a few days a week while they work from home.

Obviously this will create problems because everyone will need a home office. But if your house doesnt need to be right by the train station you can get a bigger house for your money.

Im not totally convinced footy has that many drug issues to be honest.

I remember near the start of the decade all the juventus players quite quickly got quite bulky and Im pretty sure that someone got caught for drugs, cant remember who.

I also remember Del Piero was one of the players who seemed to put some more muscle/mass on. It also co-insided with some bad form and his goal per season dropped.

Then he seemed to get a bit thinner again and return to his original shape and he started to play better again.

Could be coincidence but I do think its harder to find the correct drug to help with football, you've got to be fast, strong, nibble, great reflexes and be technically good all at the same time I think its more difficult to see how drugs can improve your performance.

On the other hand Im sure football is awash with recreational drugs esp Cocaine as mentioned which may have more of a psychological effect.

Also it has to be said the current best player in the world Lionel Messi was on human growth hormone though out his teenage years (because he had a defficency).

I'd have imagined the doctors made sure he got a good wack of it and he does seem to unbelievably quick considering hes a runt. But again his game is mainly based on technique and its difficult to measure how drugs would effect reflexes coordination etc. Although they do say men are better at these skills and ALL racing drivers are male which suggests exposure to testosterone at a young age can improve these skills as well.

No – they're quacks, pure and simple. They got a foothold when conventional medicine involved trepanning and leeches, and got popular by nature of not killing people. See also, Homeopathy.

Sure the Chiropractors might be quacks but the spinal manipulations may help in some cases with back problems more by luck then anything else. Plus many Chiropractors now recommend the same exercises and core strengthening that pyhsios recommend for back problems.

Totally agree with the statement ! :)

I know this is gonna start an argument, but don't FFS see a Chiropractor – they are quacks who'll rob you blind.

Basically I agree with this statement, but I think it might be a bit more like acupuncture.

They've been around so long and have a lot of good press so they must be doing something right at least some of the time. However their description of what they are doing to help you is completely out of date and is proven to be wrong. The spine simply does not operate as Chiropractors suggest.

Much like acupuncture. I dont think many western people actually believe they have a flow of Chi to disrupt. But acupuncture does seem to work and they are studies starting to back this up.

    Gald your ok.

    Where was this ?

Part of me says you should also take this story to the newspapers, as it might encourage the authorities to take it more seriously.

Another part of me thinks that the very act of publishing this will make some idiot thinks its a normal thing to do and they'll drive into some one else. Wont occur to them that the driver got caught.

No ones mentioned this but I find SPD are much better for standing up on a full suspension bikes.

I've been ridding swinley on both flats and spd recently and there are lots of (very) short sharp climbs. If I try to sprint up a hill standing up, on a full suspension bike with flats, the bike feels very mushy and alot of power is lost to the suspension.

I dont notice this effect so much when wearing spd's because you can balance the downstroke on one leg with the upstroke on the other leg leading to less pedal bob.

I like both SPD's and Flats but in my opinion flats are a definite no-no on cross country full suspension bikes.

I had something like this. My problem with it was it must of used the same original number (rather than taking the clock time) to generate the random number series.

Hence choosing random always played the songs in the same order which drove me nuts as I ended up listening to exactly the same songs even though I had like 1000 songs on it !

Funny how some people want the songs in order personally I love it when a great song randomly appears on my play list.

As you can see from this link

    ZTR Rims

Each rim has a hollow section. Stans stuff this space with crisp dollar bills which they are literally rolling in by charging so much for their products. The money is also starting to get in the way at the office.

Handily the properties of the American greenback just happen to have the right vibration absorbing properties to make the rim strong while keeping the weight low.

Hence the light/strong/cheap statement is fully satisfied. Does that answer your question ?

    The Cleveland Show is unwatchable.

Family guy can be funny but is just a stream of bad gags. Its not clever is the way the simpsons can be.

Also many of the scenes are just there to shock people the simpsons always manages to be funny without resorting to this sort cut.

Again American Dad can be funny at times and is slightly less offensive than Family Guy.

Your point that MTB is starting to resemble the ramblers as the demographic both widens and ages, is possible valid

Your point that this is a totally negative development is clearly just a personal opinion and is not a statement that can be quantitatively tested to be true or false.

Also dont you think compasses are a bit complicated ? Surely you can use the Sun/Stars/Wind/PlantGrowthPatterns to work out which way is north ?

Somethings needs to be done to discourage cheating.

I suggest that in future all potential sports professional are cloned versions of one particularly successful professional from the past.

Therefore all competitors will start out from the same baseline and all will have the same potential in their genetic make up. They will also need to be brought up in a controlled environment, so maybe the parents will need to be cloned as well.

Then the winner really will be the one who worked the hardest and it will remove the temptation to cheat because one competitor wont be thinking another competitor has an unfair advantage due to naturally producing more testosterone.

I might be wrong but I guess alot women in a relationship have considered what they would say if their man proposed. Mainly due to convention.

Where as if a Man hasn't proposed he might not be thinking about marriage at all. So it might come as a big shock to him and he might not really be ready to give an answer.

Also you seem to be putting alot of planning into this idea and therefore possibly money, what happens if he proposes to you beforehand or even at the same event ?

The flip side of the person who doesn't drive at a speed safe for the road is that they often speed when the limit reduces. They seem to pick an arbitary speed that they are happy with, regardless of speed limit or road conditions.

I totally agree with this. The other thing I find is I'll be behind a driver on a straight wide NSL road plodding along at just under 40mph. Thinking they must not be a confident driver or an old gran or something.

Then we'll then come to a tight corner or round about and I'll actually start to lose them as I slow down more for the turn and they plow through at exactly the same speed.

I think you need to change your maxim to

single, sane, fit, is as anal about grammatical errors as me
    pick two

This may make things slightly more tricky for you particularly if your going to use email as your main method of communication to begin with.

Although as you point out your be able to rule out those who failed English Language much more quickly than you would in a bar.

Agree with last two posts theres nothing wrong with Maidenhead at all.

The town centre is a bit underwhemling for the size of the town. But thats because its so close to reading and slough, and as pointed out london is nt far on the train either.

personally I quite like Reading too. Yeah theres areas you would nt want to live in, but Its pretty lively and the town centre is great for shopping, cinema, restuarants etc…

I live in Twyford which is a village between Reading and Maidenhead, its on the train line between the 2 so might be a possibilty if you were looking for somewhere smaller or quiter.

As people have mentioned the main problem round here is the congestion, there really needs to be more bridges over the Thame esp in Reading.

However the train service into london is really good esp from Reading which has direct trains to london, bham, britol, southampton, oxford, guildford, basingstoke, derby and sheffield even !

All men over 30 who are LONGterm single are:
    – Are too close to their Mother
    – Live with other likeminded males like perpetual students (who never grew up)
    – Commitment-shy.
    – Have an almost autistic-obsession with a hobby?

Dont really agree with this I tend to get the feeling you dont really need as many men as women. There seem to be a lot of men who marry some one their own age have a family then leave and start again with a younger women. If all men were to do this you'd only need half as many men as women, but obviously they dont.
