I think obviously the ‘right’ thing to do is report it.

However we have no idea how relations with you neighbours will develop only you can call that.

You wouldn’t go and sit in your LBS and tell customers coming through the door that they can buy cheaper online would you?

Some people would ! But this is hardly the same. The shop has paid for premises, organised stock, paid staff etc etc. Its their shop, their show, their rules.

But its not like that here Singletrack the magazine is doing all the hosting and paying the costs.

You could argue you should be on the forum complaining about the cost of the magazine.

But the classified users havent necessarly paid anything.

I’ve sold quite alot of stuff and quite think its a good thing.

Its annoying when you want to sell something quickly and there a mega hot deal on somewhere else but you just need to wait for that to finish.

“There are five times as many troops in Aldershot-Camberley-Deepcut-Pirbright”

This is the issue. Seeing as Population is increasing in south especially and services and are being streches why not move the trooPs out ?

surely the MOD can get a good rate for the bases and develop them into housing and retain most of the land.

long term I cant see the army winning. The population is increasing especially in the SE there will be more and more pressure for acess in these areas.

With swinley starting parking charges it will be interesting to see if these areas actually become more busy at the weekend.

“There’s no such thing as a ‘most important commandment’. Otherwise they wouldn’t be commandments. You don’t get to pick and choose, it’s not Woolworth’s sweet counter.”

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

I think your getting confused between christianity and judasim.

There is actually quite a bit of

Its the spirit of the law not the letter of the Law that is important in Christianity.

Admittedly this was completely forgotten during the middle ages.

I suppose this situation came about because professional sportists cant always rest, they need to compete. In certain situations anti-inflammatories will help them compete with less pain and less chance of doing more damage. And whats good for professional is good for amateurs too.

    scu98rkr

anti-inflammatories didn’t seem to cure it

I cant possibly see how anti-inflammatories could cure Tendinitis.

In fact they are likely to delay recovery by reducing blood flow and healing to the damaged area.

The steroids injections in the other hand do exactly the opposite by irritating the area they encourage inflammation and healing.

I think theres a bit of a misunderstanding with anti inflammatory’s and the constant advice to take them.

There never going to heal anything. There just there to hide the symptoms and rest is meant to heal you.

If you continue to do sport they might stop another area of your body getting injured but they wont do anything for the original injury. And they might stop the inflamed area injuring surrounding tissue but this is nt helping the original area, rest would be better.

Im sure in 10-20 years time there will be a real back lash against “anti-inflammatories” as people begin to accept you need inflammation to promote healing and these drugs might actually mean it takes longer to heal by postponing this.

They really should only be given to people who dont do sport and just want to get rid of pain. People who do sport should be encouraged just to rest and accept the pain and soreness is part of the healing process and is actually allowing them to heal as quick as possible.

Possibly your suggesting the OP just happens to have loose cruciate ligaments but cycling is actually one of the things you can do with out a cruciate ligament. The OP states he has 25 years pain free cycling. So even he did have loose ligaments its likely he would have developed plenty of muscle to help stabilise the knee in that time.

Plus the cruicate is right in the centre of the knee and often people do nt have many nerves going here. So if it somehow spilt with out a fall you might not even feel any pain.

    scu98rkr

Sounds like the right area for cruciate, as I understand it’s not easy to diagnose – could just be overuse.

What do you mean by this ? Are you suggesting an overuse cruciate injury ? I didnt even think this was possible ?

A cruciate ligament sprain or tear as far as I am aware comes from an acute injury generally from a fall with a rotational force being applied to the knee. Which is why they are common in skiers the skies allow a large rotational force to be put though the knee.

And your suggesting this some how came on in both legs at the same time ?????

I think your going to worry the OP unessential if he starts looking up cruciate ligaments injury. although obviously all knee problems should be taken seriously and ploughing though the pain is nt a good idea.

A couple of years ago, 2007 i think, it seemed to rain everyday. Just had to get on and ride what ever.

But the last couple of years I’ve only gone out when its sunny. Seeing as yesterday was the first rain in about month its not really been a problem recently.

In my opinion do short sections as fast as possible. Get out of breath sprint make your self hurt.

You probably will get faster but doing lots of long cycles but I think the key to getting faster quickly is to really push your self.

I’d been doing the gorrick races for a couple of years with out improving. Basically I push a little on the first lap then hold back some and then push harder on the last lap, but I did nt seem to get faster.

Eventually I decided to just go at it as hard as possible on my first lap and try and keep up with the better the riders. Admittedly to begin with my final lap times would be horrific but I did start to get faster overall.

Then I got a tooth infection I could shift, got ill alot and now Im slow again :(

You need to stop and wait unless the rider really wants to let you though. Its not a race is it ?

But if it is a race tire buzz, rider on your left, a quick elbow etc etc are fair game :)

Theres now trails and jumps all over Grims Castle in West Berks. Just north of Thatcham.

I love a good hill fort me, but I have to say I have riden them.

To be fair there are actually loads of hill forts and other ancient monuments all around the country. I mean I would nt condone building trails on Uffington Castle or over the White Horse. But Grimsbury castle in now covered in trees which cant be doing it much good.

I always find the area under evergreen or pine trees to be drier than the area under other types of vegetation.

therefore as a cyclist Im all for pine trees :)

Theres one area near me in the chilterns that actually has pine trees it is surprisingly dry under them even in winter.

Move out of that area and back to the normal bog.

If you ask me pine tree should be liberally planted all over the chilterns.

think you would be better off doing what you do now…

got to better than driving further in (traffic, having to find a parking space each day) then crap cycle in.

Certainly true but does cost me £3000 a year. Mind you are right currently my cycle is a nice bimble through hyde park.

I was kinda looking to try and stay outside the towns though. I mean just park the car somewhere random to try and avoid traffic.

For instance I noticed this garden centre next to windsor.

    click1

I reckon the drive along this way would be totally clear.

what are you suggesting something like this ?

    Click2

I have a feeling the the road through Ascot A329 can be quite slow ?

Preferably I want to be able to do the commute in 1:30 max.

Ie 30 mins in car 1 hour on bike. which really means I need to cover approx 15 miles in 30 mins. to drop the bike commute down to 16 miles or some. Ie this

Cycle Commute I reckon I could manage and have done

The problem is how to easily get to Colnbrook ? I know the road though Datchett is a nightmare. Is there any point going on the M4 at say 8:00 in the morning or is this just akin to suicide ?

I spent the best part of 10yrs either setting up, running or selling businesses. I know what you mean and I m,ust admit that while I used to lie to people about the benefits of running your own gig I absolutely hated it.
Yes you had more flexibility – more flexibility to work all the time, worry about your pipeline of work, try and hire the absolutely RIGHT people every time, not take holiday, I had about 3 days sick in 7 years !, be expected to answer the phone 24×7, have no support or anyone to bounce ideas off. And I am talking a 15 person/$4m business as well.

Is there the possibility your just good but not brilliant at this sort of thing. Presumably if your good at starting Business and running them your’ll soon become reasonably successful.

Im my job i’ve been stagnating for a while. I often wonder if its because Im not as good as it as other people. Ie I should be doing work now not on singletrack.

Hi I’ve got a pair of 2.25 rocket rons in the garage.

Im thinking of using them as my general XC tyres this summer. How strong are they ?

I’ve got some 2.1 racing ralphs on my “racing wheels” and think there pretty good, the amount of grip on them is fine for me.

So 2.25 Rockets should be a bit beefer and good for general riding for me but Im a bit scared they will easily be punctured. (plan to use them tubeless)

Seemed a good bloke to me, will be a loose.

I dont actually remember him making any controversial statements. He’d occasionally say the world needed to be fairer but that obvious to all.

Generally he’d would/have to stick to being middle of the road in case the Anglian Church would just fall apart.

Not quite. But I have had opportunities to work abroad (still do have) and if I didn’t have kids settled at school, could quite easily have jumped to, say, Singapore. Anyone in my position but a decade younger would need their head examined if they didn’t consider moving somewhere more tax-friendly.

So all that seems to suggest is we need a world wide tax regime. Ie everywhere have 50% bands.

Or all the rich people will end up in one place paying no tax while the vast majority are stuck.

Also you dont say you would nt have gone down that path suggesting that even if your paying 50% its still worth your while to earn over £150,000 (obviously).

Tax will be too much when its not worth earning £150,000.

What more to the point is its not really worth earning £10,000 a year as your quality of life is no better than being on the dole.

I thought that the actual figures had shown that the 50p rate had not brought in any more money – since people at that end of the earnings scale were more likely to begin funneling their money through (legal) tax avoidance measures…

From what I’ve read no one is really sure still. It all seems to be conjecture rather than fact.

    Hi nickf

If the 50% tax bracket had existed when you started on your career would you have decided not to bother and just work at tesco ?

    scu98rkr

Do we actually have any entrepreneurs on the forum ?

Brant maybe ? Have you managed to get into the 50% bracket ?

Did you decide to design bikes brant so because you knew back in the day you’d pay 40% tax ?

Would you have started on one if you’d known you’d have to pay 50% tax ?

Or did you do it because you like designing bikes ?

    scu98rkr

Rich people can be rich for any number of reasons (winning the lottery, playing premiership football, or inheritance to name but a few.)

So whats the reason not to tax them at 50% then ?

yeah you could take the thames path does look a little more direct than the canal, esp if you take the cycle path south of the Barnes wetland centre and cut out that loop.

Again I would suggest getting off at Brentford and just taking the cycle path along the A4 from there as its very direct.

    scu98rkr
    Free Member

The canal really does seem to go a long way round.

There is a cycle path down the A4 from M4 junction 1.

I have no idea about central london but the A315 is cyclable but not great fun esp round the hammer smith flyover/round about.

I just suggest ploughing straight over the pedestrian area there.

Possibly you could do St James park past buckingham palace and along hyde park before that.
