yeah they recalled the 31.8mm but not the 25.4mm, which I had.

think they probably should of recalled the 25.4mm too.

CwmCarn is probably better, but you pretty much do all the up in one go and alot of the down in one go.

If your a beginner or prefer up and down and few flat bits in between Cannock might be a more enjoyable ride.

Personally I’ve never really enjoyed CwmCarn might be to do with a Student race I did they a couple of years ago and it rained the whole time.

PS I’d been riding them quite happily for about a year before this, his face after the crash was not a happy sight.

I had some carbon bars from Sunline 155 grams ish 685mm.

Lent my bike to a mate (a bit heavier than me to be fair 70kg to about 80kg) and they snapped on him.

Reckon would nt go lighter than about 175gram for say 670mm now.

the threat of a jail term (especially a short one) isn’t really a motivator against bad driving

totally agree for the reasons above

I suggest a new tax band is introduced to pay for dropper seatposts for all who want. This way singletrack world will not be wall to wall dropper seatpost questions and we can all live happily.

Its probably my fault to be fair, I’ve been in pretty rude health for quite a stretch now. Somebody has to suffer, I’m afraid

I was thinking the same about 2 years ago. I had had a cold for he previous 2 years and at most I occasionally felt a bit tired, was a really cool !

Then I got a tooth/gum infection dentists dithered didnt have it removed for 6 months was on antibiotics for 6 months have nt really been properly well since.

I had a BMX as a Kid and did a fair bit of riding round the local town but not much else.

At 18 my uncle said he’d brought a bike, so I decided to buy a proper bike too, I got a 1997 rigid dawes Saratoga. I cant really remember why I suddenly decided to buy one. Over my teenage years I had nt dont much exercise although Id playing a bit more footy from 16-18 than before.

As soon as I got one knew it was for me. It just seems to combine so many things I like, being outside, exploring (a big one esp when younger), transport, freedom , skills, jumps, moving.

I kinda assume everyone must love cycling although I know my cousin hates it.

There seems to be quite a bit of negativity towards using the terminal. Surely one of the main selling point of a Mac is that at its core OS-X is just a flavour of Unix/Linux ? Does nobody use the terminal ? Or something like MacPorts/Fink to compile and install generic Linux software ?

I’d be tempted to take it out of the machine and just drop it on the floor.

Im always too lazy to return things.

I once found some nice binoculars I took then intending to hand them into the police, stayed in my bag for a couple of months, then on my desk, then in a box then in the bin.

Never used them, would have been better if I’d just left them, there was more chance of them getting back to the owner that way.

My dad has one running across our farm, never much of a problem, well marked and in order. Wanted to move the start so it ran along side the river and not through the edge of the farm buildings (nicer walk and safer as your not in the way of with tractors or livestock being worked with). 300m from the original start which links with no other right of way for miles and the answer was a straight no, not even considered. He moved the sign and put in a new stile which went unnoticed for about a year (no one was bothered until some jobsworth made him move it back)

Sounds like a good idea there are many areas where the ROW could be improved but a lot of it seems to be based on president and past usage. Or whether some ROW officer decided it was a footpath or a Bridle way back in the 1950s.

I think there should be a full review of all ROW and there usage based on suitability (not the other way round ie its BOAT so we must make it suitable to offRoaders, its a bridleway we must make it so the horses can easily descend).

Ideas like your dads should also be considered seems common sense that people would want to walk round the edge of the farm not right though the middle.

Im originally from Staffordshire and was brought up in Lichfield. Personally I think its a great town/city and I’ll happily admit its nicer than Reading. But it hasnt got all of Readings facilities ie University/Shopping/Cinema/Clubs/ClimbingWall etc

If I was to compare Reading to the nearest similar towns ie Tamworth/Burton-on-Trent/Even Sutton Coldfield I’d say the town centre is much better than any of them.

So by saying Reading has no redeeming features in my book your condemning most of the town in the UK.

To be honest theres only a few places in the UK I’ve been where I’ve struggling to spot a few redeeming features
    1. Obviously some boroughs/area of London
    2. Some of the towns in the welsh valleys, my mate lived in Treharris for a bit and on a cold damp grey day I struggled to spot many positives.
    3. Some of the towns on the Cumbrian coast ie Whitehaven/Millom on a bad day they look pretty grim.

Go on then, name a redeeming feature of Reading?

The most recent improvement to the town center is widening the rail bridge east of the station to speed up the number of trains that can get through the station without having to que to get out. Pretty much sums up Reading

Strikes me your just externalising negative personal feeling on to your surroundings.

What do you want me to say ? The Thames is well well nice for a walk to cycle along, or if your into rowing.

The town centre is always busy and there is a feeling that things are happening there moving forward and there is real employment (not like some town were everything is shutting down.)

There is some nice Architecture esp round the town hall and above the shops leading to the station.

The university must be one of the best for student life in the country ie does almost all subject so good range of students, great sport facilities, brilliant campus.

I dunno what is it you want from the town ? Where would you say is a nice town ?

Bit different from it has no redeeming features is nt it !

Was great living there as a student :) and I live nearby now, countryside side to the north and along the river is cool.

Also town centre is pretty smart looking now adays not many round down buildings.

Reading? Lived there. It has no redeeming features

Knew this sort of comment would come up. Its not true not now adays anyhow.

It is however much more of a working/shopping/drinking town that a tourist spot or a cultural highlight.

So off the top of my head I can really think many tourist attractions.

I managed to get some of these in 1.9″

    click

certainly feel quick to me. I say they rool easier than my 2.1″ racing ralphs on my 26″

I have riden these round Cannock on a damp (not totally wet) day on fully rigid onone 29er. Surprisingly felt like I had plenty of grip (maybe cos Im not used to 29ers), I think it might be another thing on a wet day in the chilterns though.

OR what about this 410g in 1.9″

Plenty of ilnesses that result in you not being able to walk very far, a stroke or back injury for example? There’s an STWer who’s wife/gf has some illness which means she can’t walk far but otherwise lookes healthy (sory, can’t remember who).

I think what people are suggesting is that people who are genuinely sick or have bad back wouldnt risk trying to take it up that escaltor. Esp if you had a bad back imagine how bad it would be after that.

I’d dont think many fit healthy strong people would admit it because of the due to the large chance of injury. I would nt do try it, unless I was drunk obviously :)

For some reason I think we maybe nearing the peak of many of the unhealthy aspects in this country.

I would nt be surprised if peak fatness is just around the corner. :)

I believe drug use has been declining for several years already. And I would not even be surprised if even peak alcohol usage in this country have been reached at the end of the last boom(2007).

For instance hasnt peak car usage already been reached in the UK ? Seeing as the population is alot higher than surely will mean more people walking in the future leading to less Obesity in the future.

My younger cousins in particular dont use cars at all.

I reckon increased education, awareness and better food production will help lessen these problems within says 20 years. (although history suggests Britons will always drink a fair bit). Exercise is becoming more and more popular. Amongst my friends (late 20’s SE often a predictor of future trends nationwide) more of them are losing weight, stoping smoking and exercising than the opposite(which might be expected on entering 30s). Obviously this hasnt spread to whole pop yet.

There will be other future problems we wont necessarily see coming. I mean who in the 1940s/50s/60s even 70s would have predicted the problem of Obesity and the cost to NHS/society. Not many ! That why it was allowed to creep up on us.

Arent STD becoming increasing common again ? Suicide in young men increasing ? Or people not having any children at all. These might be the problems future society faces.

Maybe its time to call it quits on the renting front.

I ‘d say sell the property but the buyer would probably pull out, pay you late or not pay at all.

Best course of action is probably to burn the property down(with no one in it) and hope you can con the insurance company.

I have to say after many yeah of riding FS I cant get back into Hardtails. It just doesnt make sense to have one end bouncy and not the other.

On the other hand rigid bikes are great ! You can feel all the power you put into the bike coming out everything feels so much more direct and its a real upper body work out.

I’d suggest ignoring the hardtail as its the worst of both world in my opinion and go straight to a rigid. (obviously other will disagree !)

Gussett plastic ones aren’t bad – CRC I think I got them from for Mrs B’s do it all utility bike.

These are the same design as the ones I linked too so +1 for this comment.

I know alot of posters will say plastic pedals are rubbish but the new style are sooooooooo much better than the old style.

Has anyone tried any of the new style plastic pedals ?

I got some for my commuting bike, but realised they were actually pretty good. Much Much Much better than the old ones.

I stuck them on my wifes bike and no complaints.

In the dry I reckon they are comparable to metal pin pedals.

    Also they are very light.

I remember my mum buying me some Freedom lager, as it was from the local brewery, and it was pretty horrible. This was quite a while ago now, have they improved ? How long was Freedom brewery existed ?

Likewise I’ve brought some beers from my now local Binghams Brewery and they were awful too. However it had only been going 1 year at the time.

Even for Singletrackworld this thread is particularly full of self satisfied smugness.

Well done to everyone who has got their car past 100,000 miles.

But as pointed many people dont actually drive that far. If they only do 5,000 miles a year they would have to have owned the car for 20 years to reach this level so they might actually be other beings on their way to reach enlightenment like all you super beings.

I like to be able to use the English language as badly as possible in order to upset pedants.

However I cant just totally make things up as thats not in the rules.

Could you please send me an example where this is writtened ?

    scu98rkr

The thing is 100,000 gives no idea how old the car is.

If you think 100,000 is too early then maybe you do alot of miles per year ?

    The post above says

2005 Touran = 100k and still going strong, although bills have been a few quid for the 4 years we have owned it.

Well I have a 2002 306 estate with about 40,000 miles. Using the same rate of milage to get to 100,000 I’ll have to own it for another 15 years. Which would mean the car is 25 years old before I scrap it.

Maybe I’ll do this but even if I keep it in great condition I imagine it will just reach as state where it is easier to buy a new car than get it fixed.

Ever seen a man in a gorilla suit at a basketball game.
Car, car, bike, car, car, bike, car, cyclist flying through the air, car, and pull out.

No one is saying she might not have seen the cyclist.

The problem is she’s still unable accept that she ran him over once the bike is under her car.

I think it was all stated at the time, the first guy obviously makes a mistake but understands it straight away.

Months down the line the second driver still cant accept they are in the wrong even with a video of them running the bike over !

The bike is under the car, the cyclist is lucky he still has both feet.

I find for shirts is the material is breathable tight is better. The tightness allows the sweat to transfer to the clothing and it can just move though the shirt and your’ll lose heat quicker.

If the material isnt breathable (like many “official” football shirts) then loose tends to be better as it lets the air circulate underneath so that the sweat can evaporate.

Surely the only other thing it could be is the application is very I/O intensive as well as CPU intensive.

And your CPU power outweighs your I/O throughput. Ie the CPU is not getting enough info to work at 100%.

Is you harddrive constantly going ? Do you have little memory.

But more like to be the application is not parallelised.

    scu98rkr

its got to be its only using 1 core. What software is it ?

    scu98rkr

The process can only use one core ?

Its not a multicore application ?

Ie the CPU intensive task is using 25%.

The other 12% is used up by other processes or runnings the OS ?
