St Bees (Cumbria) to Robinhoods Bay (N.Yorks) is the one to go for if referring to offroad/mtb. It pretty much follows the old Wainwrights route and was well published in book form though i think its not in publication currently. The book's recommended time is 8 days but me and my mate did in 4 with car support. Our route was… ST.Bs to Boot, Bt to Shap, Shp to Osmotherly and Osmoth RHB. Try the EBay for the guide book?

Back to the point… Any graphics shop/letter or sign writers will do vynal cut graphics like those advertising business on vans and trucks etc. A set of two names will cost you about 3-5£ using standard fonts from a PC. Its cheap easy and a personal touch to your beloved machine.

Ya dont need a long memory… Their (HERS!)legacy still sits infront of me right now. Deprived South Yorkshire mining communities (all around Donny at least)and no investment to replace what they destroyed. Anyone know Stainforth??

Duraglit/Brasso! The wool/polish in a tin job from Tesco will get your Ti looking incredibly shiny to mirror glass finish. I found out accidently and not to my liking. I was trying to get rid of the 'tide mark' left by front mech when changed to compact and lowered mech.

What price for a low spec such as Deore and up grade later, that way ya still get the Orange 5. You could build it up yourself and shop around for kit. Surely you would get that for 2k

Here's my '07. Great bike, very reliable suspension system. Perfect for trail riding – fast on descents and climbs exceptionally well too. No flex for me at 12 stone… 5'10 and medium is spot on

Like hels, i toured solo in NZ back in '95. Sometimes it was hard to have an alone (not lonely!) moment as there are that many other folk about. If ya need company then I'm sure ya will find it when needs be.

Good to see pics fro N.I. I visit often and always feel its a shame more of those glens cant be opened up for public access! Co Antrim/coast for example is a superb location but needs developing for tourism/biking Whats happening at that quarry between Larne and C'fugus, meant to be been developed??

OCD here too. After every ride thorough wash down including all the non visible nooks and crannies. WD40 spray on bike to get at the residues and smears. This includes the tyres! (though I expect wd40 may lesson the rubber's lifespan). Usual checks and re grease/lubes as required. Bikes get stripped down as much as possible 2x year usually end of winter and summer. That said the bikes live in house and last me years without unnecessary wear…

Had stitching issues a few years back but recent stuff has been ok. That said I struggle to fing a bike clothing company that can sew! That's roadie and mtb. I honestly couldnt mention a brand that has never given me jipp! Therefore I have given up black listing manufactures for this matter… and keep a needle and thread handy around the house

onto my third pair of 010 duals/maxels 150mm! First pair dodgey bushing and seal, second pair 'drop out' not machined so wheel didnt sit correctly thus maxel would not thread through axle. 3rd pair so far good! Plush and very light for their performance…

most has been said here, if you like mountains and volcanoes visit Togariro National Park or learn to ski/snow board on Rhuapeu. May be a fair distance but would make a great weekend. Deffinately Bay of Islands, North Cape and 90 Mile Beach (52 miles). I rode most of that when touring there in '95. Went to N.Z last year for a very short time and not changed too much. Enjoy!!

I thought Team Sky would have got them involved, would have made a Great Britsh combo. Why not, they've only gone for Pinarello after all…

Might be obvious, but have you used a headset press to fit the cups? Looks like they would go in with the right tool? Though dont do anything drastic!! Oh and dont ride it too far or too fast like that…

in 20 years Ive only used Camelbaks and the Octane 8 has been one of the best. Mines into its 3rd year in march and is still like new! not very often do I expand it with the zipper, its ample storage usually does me on long day rides. Can not fault it…

Hills go up as well as down in the alps just like anywhere… (Though over a bigger distane than over here). Had 4 trips there on a SC Superlight with full xc set up and put in some classic mountain biking! Upto 140/150mm travel would be ample if ya planning on riding up as well as down with added lifts to speed things up. The xc/trail riding is as good as the dh specific runs, take ya pick…
