edlong – thanks loads for the route advice. You make sense and has given me insentive to try again. I did indeed begin to follow the track to Boredale but knew it wasn’t the right one, hence turning back!Cheers

Talking of Ulswater can anyone tell/show (map?) the route from Boredale Hause to Martindale? I was there only two weeks ago trying to follow the rout in the Vertebrate guide book series and ended up turning back, getting as far as the plateux. Even with os map I was absolutley stuck!Shame on me I know. I could not find the said bridleway up to some ridge. Couldnt even see a ridge… Any helps great. Ta

Been today did red. Pleasantly surprised. mostly dry well drained, damp in trees with the odd splash pool. My shorts/camel back came back clean with only splashes on legs. Bike wiped clean…

Bradwell Edge was a nightmare last week – very deep in thick mud! The final descent (steep bit) was just do able on ‘normal grip’ tyres. Hope its dries for you as its a cracker. On this point and once again why is there a fence across this bridalway!!?? Correct answers welcome…

Often wondered if they are the new Monoc (assuming they are defunct) if anyone remebers them? Very similar in design, style even the graphics…

Pickering, Rosedale, Rosedale East, Blackey Ridge, drop into Hutton le Hole (long descent from the Lion (?) Pub at top of Blakey), descend Chimney Bank, Rose Dale, Pick. Chimney bank is a doable climb (aided by a compact for me) if doing it in reverse too.

5’10(plus shoes)medium, 80 mm stem, inline post (plenty showing) with rails middling and perfect. My old 575 2007 model is a tad bigger allround in medium.

As above really. had mine 10 month and love it. Have a 2007 575 too and the 5 outshines that in all directions. Rear shock settings are worth messing with to find your ideal. Go buy (alloy)!!

Think they are comparatively priced with like, such as Intense, Turner, Ibis, Elsworth, Tomac and Santa Cruz,(U.S brands/not so mass produced) In the UK anyway…

Linking up the woods with the Peaks would be difficult. Take them as separate days out. Though you could do both if you stayed in the ‘foothills’…

Yea I was never fussed about a full mot but the missus talked me into it, ended up with high choleserol too. Glad I went now. All back on track without the pills!! It can be done.

Check ya blood pressure. Not sure if there is meant to be positive correlation but I have been working on reducing my BP (doctors orders)which has now come down to the correct levels, but I notice my HR has gone up… ie the lower the BP the higher HR..?

Are MTBs still banned from National Parks? Spent a year bike/mtb touring there 17 years ago and revisited 2 years ago. Luddites! That said I love the place and expect the mtb scene has picked up big time. Quite fancy the idea of one of these ‘fat bikes’ for 90 mile beach though. This was a ‘mare on a normal mtb. After a year I too was itching to get back to the Peaks and UK riding in general…

On a similar note and a Q I have been meaning to ask for ages is why does Bradwell (Bramble Edge?) Edge have a bleeding fence across half way down? It is a Bridal Way afterall. Looks like there are some sneaky DH tracks to the right leading to the steeper final decsent…

Did this 12 years ago the Tony Woodcock (Wheelwrights)way in 4 days but had camping stuff driven on for us. St Bs – Boot, Boot – Shap, Shap – Osmotherley, Os – RHB. Shap to Os was horrendous (86 mile) in the days of hard tails and short travel. One of my all time epic ventures and well worth the efforts. Crack on!

Don’t think any of the 10sd XT have this switch faciliy, but the XTR 980 does for sure. Its a switch button underneath the shifter from x3 to x2.

Yeti – Yetifan.com (black and grey)
    Bontrager – trek shops
    JagWire – google?

They look cool but remeber they still have direct contact to frame so still have potential to rub. I have found the Lizard Skin Leather patches to be best

    Down size?

    scruzer

Run them set at 140/130mm. Doing that = fixed travel and shouldnt cause you any issues. 140 is a popular level and certainly suites the ASR5.

Warm up ride to Conisbrough, then hit Steetley Quarry and the woods. You can make a pretty good ride from this lot. A popular area, still attracting regulars, mostly from Donny.

Not sure what you mean? Like, the brand/model name etc? Try slikgraphics. Some manufacturers such as Litespeed do their own replacements. Check manufacturer’s web site?
