Google image search for: “steering wheel, crystals, claymore”…
I am, of course, NOT advocating that the OP suggest it to his colleague. I am also, of course, NOT further advocating that, should said **** adopt the idea, he subsequently reverse hard into the front of her car while they are both exiting the car park
PS I know someone like the OP’s colleague. Total attention seeking flake and a mahoosive ballache to be around…
scruffywelderFree MemberSurprise surprise our new local Tory MP against it.
The prick really does seem to lack any form of redeeming human qualities.

100hp 4×4 tractor and loader- soooo many uses! Saves a lot of lifting^^^This!!^^^
Only surpassed by the telehandler. Bagging up seed barley by any chance?
scruffywelderFree MemberMy advice would be to look into a 5 day intensive driving course. Gets them through their test without too much faff.
Most driver training companies (the ones for HGV’s) should be able to advise as to who/where they are available. Worth looking at doing the trailer test at same time if possible as that’s a ball ache to do later.scruffywelderFree Memberthegreatape – Member
Er, a tree with no leaves wouldn’t get blown like that, so I don’t find it very realistic. For that reason, I’m out.A tree shaped by the wind over many years?
scruffywelderFree MemberI think the first thing you should do is join the mig-welding.co.uk forum and stick a post in this thread[/url]. Ask nicely and you may find someone who either has a moving jaw from a scrapper lying about or someone local who would be willing to help with a welding/brazing repair.
They’re a great bunch of guys over there and the forum is an absolute joy to use compared with STW (better features, mobile version that actually works, no politics…)
Wee bit addictive though :wink:scruffywelderFree Memberbikebouy – Member
I struggle with any sympathy in this instanceFor who?
scruffywelderFree MemberFunny you should mention that, I just took a box of old car cassettes to the tip this morning. Fat of The Land was right on top of the box…
Definitely not as good as Jilted Generation but not really awful either.
scruffywelderFree MemberDon’t know if Eden Camp near Pickering counts as a museum but really enjoyed visiting it a couple of years ago.
+1 for Threlkeld Quarry and the Vintage Excavator Trust. Only about 10mins from Keswick and a great place to lose yourself for a few hours
scruffywelderFree MemberWhat really boils my piss is football clubs in financial bother getting preferential treatment from HMRC…
scruffywelderFree Membereg a tractor. When did you last see a motorist do a punishment pass on one of those?
Oh, only pretty much every day…
Never ceases to amaze me that, even in ultra-rural Dumfriesshire where tractors on the roads are a fact of life, there are still d!ckheads that’ll try it.
2 tonne sh!tbox vs 5.5 tonne tractor pulling a 2.5 tonne trailer loaded with 8 tonnes of grain/straw/feed/soil/stone.
Yeah, c#ck it up and that’s really going to end well isn’t it?!?
Muppets.
scruffywelderFree MemberThanks guys.
It was actually a large she was thinking of as she’s about 5’9″
Looks like they only have mediums left although they were only showing large in stock a couple of days ago. It’s almost like they don’t know what they’ve got to sell…
I did tell her to grab one before they disappeared!
scruffywelderFree MemberSecond favourite now that I think about it is a pair of Troll walking trousers for £3…
scruffywelderFree MemberMy favourite find so far is a 1953 Buck & Hickman tool catalogue. Beautiful thing…
The bloke behind the till was so happy to see it go to a proper tool hound like me. He’d already chased 2 d*ckheads who just wanted to cut it up and eBay the images…
Edit: £5 well spent
scruffywelderFree MemberRed Kite feeding station near New Galloway.
Samye Ling Tibetan centre/Buddhist temple at Eskdalemuir.scruffywelderFree MemberIf you want a real pain in the balls try roller painting new pebbledash.
The in-laws got me to do about 60m² that they’d had re-rendered last year.
I power washed it thoroughly beforehand to remove any loose gravel and still came away looking like I’d been used for target practice by every seagull in the universe!
Every stroke of the roller flicked a handful (literally) of freshly coated gravel EVERYWHERE
When you add in that you have to thin the paint to fill all the wee holes, give it three coats and still have it look crap I can only say NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!scruffywelderFree MemberDunno if it’s been mentioned yet but there’s a very good “Show us your vices” thread over on the mig-welding.co.UK forum.
Some real enthusiasts over there!
scruffywelderFree MemberGoogle turns up one in Dorset called Black Cow doing dairy vodka. I think the NZ one actually does bio-methanol for fuel :?
scruffywelderFree MemberHey Kit,
Really cool to see another local food/drink enterprise on the cards! I really hope it comes off for you.
If it’s OK with you I’ll pass your details on to my mum – she’s a small scale food producer, just a couple of miles up the road from you (By Heck! jams, jellies, chutneys & marmalades) and also heavily involved in the local farmers market scene. (Be warned though – she talks. Constantly.) The Dumfries market at Tarff Valley Farmers is on tomorrow, might be worth doing a spot of mingling/market research. I’d put you in touch with the guy who makes cider up Langholm way but I can’t remember his name (Chris something or other). ISTR he bought the rights to the Langholm Distillery name a few years back with the intention of making something but I don’t think he ever had time to develop the idea.
Bit of an off-the-wall idea but have you considered something like a vodka made from milk/whey? I believe there’s a successful distillery somewhere in NZ doing it (started as an offshoot of a commercial creamery). It might be possible to do a double act with Arla Foods/Lockerbie Cheese Company (also on your doorstep).
Best of luck,
ScruffscruffywelderFree MemberMy parents neighbour had this problem with their elder kevinager. Tried everything.
Their eventual “solution” involved iPhones, Xboxes etc. & an axe…
Then said lad having to find a weekend job to pay for replacements
scruffywelderFree MemberThe other half & I both loved Wroclaw when we visited in September. Lovely place, cheap as chips and Ryanair do reasonably priced flights. Seemed very bike friendly too.
scruffywelderFree MemberJust saw it this evening and thought it was brilliant! Really liked the overall feel of the film. Did think Peter Cushing looked slightly weird (clumsy CGI) and Carrie Fisher more so but it didn’t spoil it for me.
The girlfriend was less impressed however…Got free mince pies and hot chocolate in our local Odeon, which was nice :D
scruffywelderFree MemberStill kinda think it’s a shame Hope didn’t/couldn’t buy Marz up when they were in financial bother. Hope build quality combined with Marz plushness? I think I could live with that…
scruffywelderFree MemberI’ve been thinking of sorting out a vice to mount up on a Workmate* for portable workbench duties. I was talking to my dad about it the other day and he tells me he’s had this old Vono (nope, never heard of them either :? ) No.5 lying under a bench waiting for a home for years…
It’s maybe a tad chunky for what I have in mind but for the price I ain’t bothered! If needs be I might have a look for a wee Record No.0 or similar as a back up for “delicate” work.
I haven’t had a chance to do much more than de-grease it but I’m liking what I’m seeing so far.
Needs new jaws making and a couple of the holes for the jaw screws drilled out and re-threaded but otherwise it’s in pretty good nick…It’ll get a good wire brushing and then a couple of coats of Hammerite and then I’ll mount it on a removable worktop that’ll clamp in the Workmates jaws (an idea I read on STW :-) ). Thinking of making that from 2 layers of 18mm Plywood glued and screwed together…
Decent quality castings and a good big thread/nut!*Not the one in the pictures. I have one of the older, mostly metal (ok, not plastic!) ones to use for this.
scruffywelderFree MemberFrank: please email me a copy of the Crisis thing.
I’ve been bugging my MP over various things lately (with at least superficially positive results) for a few months now so he’ll possibly be worth a shot.
Richard Arkless SNP, don’t agree with his politics but he doesn’t appear to be a complete tw*t…scruffywelderFree MemberReally sorry to hear of your loss Simmy.
Been there a few times so I can guess at how gutted you must be right now. As others have said try to keep the good times in mind.
Current wee pal is 13, getting quite frail and has slowly deteriorating dementia. We’re just trying to keep up her quality of life and make the most of her while she’s here
scruffywelderFree MemberI think it was a corrupted Facebook update that caused the problem*.
Put card back in phone, rebooted.
Nothing. Bugger.
Rebooted again (it has sporadically worked on startup, so worth a try)
Card found!
Uninstalled BBC weather app from the card (first on list, easiest to ditch quickly).
Card self unmounted. Bugger, try again.
Rebooted.
Uninstalled eBay app.
Card self unmounted. Bugger, try again.
Rebooted.
Uninstalled Facebook.
Card useage immediately dropped from 22gb down to 5.5gb.
Uninstalled Facebook Messenger.
Uninstalled Wikipedia app.
Card has been running for about 90mins without issue. Before it would crap out in 30 seconds or less.
Going to try it for a few days before I try reinstalling the apps.
Photos now uploaded to Google photos (thanks torsoinalake) and backed up onto laptop/NAS. :D :D :D
Interesting experience but not one I would care to repeat.* this time, anyway…
scruffywelderFree MemberIt’s a 32gb Sandisk bought from Tesco (don’t know if that’s a reputable source or not ;-) )
I’ll give Google photos a try for the future, thanks.scruffywelderFree MemberBugger!
I’m waiting to hear back from my local IT guy so fingers crossed…
If he comes up with something useful, I’ll post again for the other victims…
Shame as it’s otherwise a decent phone :(
scruffywelderFree MemberWe got the crappy petrol engines but over in Russia they got the excellent 1.9td peugeot/citroen engine and then the 2.0 HDI. They have just started bringing them back to the UK.
Crappy but surprisingly difficult to kill…
Way back in the early/mid-90s my dad used to do engine conversions into them using either Ford turbodiesels or Perkins Prima TDIs (which I think he possibly got from crashed/rotten Montegos :? ) Bloody snug fit either way…
Fairly sure he used to insist on rebuilding the steering/suspension/brakes when he had them in. Russian parts in those departments are usually pretty **** awful.scruffywelderFree MemberI’ve often wondered if the phrase “Pull the other one, it has bells on” has some connection with morris dancing.
Variation on “Pull my finger…”???
scruffywelderFree MemberI went with a pair of Draper wire rope cutters from toolstation. No problems with them so far. Sticking a short end of scrap inner into the outer before trimming seems to make for a cleaner cut.

I think the thread is 50/50 split between those who know the OP is mildly trolling, and people taking this shit seriously.Nah, I think there’s a fair few that are neither and just here to take the piss out of both sides :-) ;-) :-) ;-)
scruffywelderFree MemberDunno about the rest of his stuff but that prototype Tomac gravel frame looks quite nice…
scruffywelderFree MemberHaven’t looked at the more recent offerings but my go-to longs for winter MTB use came from Aldi.
They’ve been fully as good as the pricier Gore bib longs I bought for winter roadie rides.
I can’t tell the difference between the pads on them.
I think their stuff is gradually improving year-on-year.
