Although they say it shouldnt matter, the previous owner was obviously in financial difficulty, and therefore they may have a lot of debt attached to the property. They say this shouldnt stick with the new owner but I had this problem ages ago and took a long time to get it all straightened out.

I did the same thing, went self-employed IT contracting about 18 months ago. I was put onto a company of specialist accountants, SJD, which have been worth their weight in gold. They handle everything, deal with HMRC for me, handle my limited company accounts, and also do my own personal tax return. I take a small salary and take everything else in dividends. On the SJD website, there is a bunch of articles about being a contractor which helps a lot, but it is a very complex thing to do without their assistance IMO.

karate IMO. Teaches good self control, she won’t get smacked about too much, and it’s very useful on the street if she needs to use it. As mentioned before, choosing the class / instructor is the most important thing. Our always taught to run away if possible, avoid all confrontation until you can’t. Also we trained using touch sparring which means teaching good self control and avoids injuries.

Last two companies Ive worked for have a massive on-site presence by a Indian “outsourced” resource. Im sitting now surrounded by about 100 Indians working on a dev project. They outsource, but then just fly the guys here to work at the customer’s premises.

What would be the sort of clientelle? Old scone munchers, active people like bikers etc, or studenty laptop users / coffee lovers?
I have often thought that there is space for an urban feeling coffee house in the country. I like that kind of “spend the afternoon or evening” type atmosphere you get in a god city coffee house. Ifg thats whats needed, then free wifi is a must, dimmable lights, comfy sofas as well as proper sit at tables so people needing the type seriously can. Displays from local artists are good, as well as gigs by small bands etc.

Staff need to be friendly too and not too cliquey.

My prefered place has prepacked sandwiches, and two hot dishes every day, one soup and one stew, always veggie, but usually curry or goulash, home made and very tasty, served with wholemeal bread. They cook big batches and store in the fridge in microwaveable containers and heat as needed. All seems simple and works very well. Key thing is they do a couple of things well and dont do a lot.

The questions will probably form two distinct types. HR, general personality type questions and the role specific technical Qs from the works manager. Remember as well that usually, unless its for a mass recruitment event, the people interviewing you will probably have done even less prep than you will have! :-D

Ask questions that show you have thought about the role and being with the company for a while. Ask about appraisal processes, and what the career development will be. Ask about training and how that maps to the appraisal process.

And if you think they are well prepared and professional, think about the market they operate in and some of the key challenges their business faces, and ask how they are looking to address those challenges. This will show you have done your homework and are genuinely interested in the company. After all, you want to know you wont be working for a bunch of muppets.

Main thing is be yourself and you will be less stressed.

I think for “Company” read “Licensed to do whatever they want to you”. Companies pull all manner of crap with people and never get boo said about it really. Id just take the redundancy and not look back as it will just cause you grief.

If wheel building is so easy then why do they write numerous books on the subject, most of them being over 100 pages or more.

I agree about riding being irrelevant given a certain component choice, but building a wheel has so many variables that there does have to be some craft in doing it well. Also, a wheel picked up from the shelf can seem perfectly fine, but uneven tension can lead to a rapid taco on the trail, when not much lateral force is applied.

Its harsh but perhaps a dose of MTFU and look forward to the holidays? On a more constructive note, there are a bunch of websites which will allow you to do a bunch of tests to determine the job you would be happiest in, perhaps giving you some left of field ideas about what would make you happier? Ive just become a dad for the first time, and at the moment, I work 0830 till 1700, but with commute, its leave house at 7 and return at 1830 or 1900 and thats on a good day. Depressing when the long nights are here, but is better during the summer.

send them a letter stating that the person who they want no longer lives there, and state that they should not contact you again. Also state that any further contact by them will leave you know choice but to take action against them under the protection from harassment act. This has worked for me in the past

You might be able to squeeze a new shape Audi A4 s-Line estate for that money. Failing that, a 520D M-Sport estate (touring) would fit the bill nicely.

Rolex Submariner here, got it cheap off a mate who was upgrading and Id done a bit of work for him. Its dated 1976 and still attracts admiring comments, and looks the biz. Goes with a suit, or any other attire and is not too bling looking like some breitlings.

If you fancy Uni, then a computer science degree should give you a general underpinning in all aspects of computing and networking etc. You could then get a flavour of where you fancy specialising. Either that or dont go to uni, and do some self study or web courses to see what you enjoy. Then maybe do some kind of certification course to get some qualifications. I did a Cisco CCNA course at a week long boot camp, but cost the company about 3 grand.

I think personally from the places I have worked recently, you need to be careful when it comes to what to choose, as most development I know of is being done by offshore outfits in India. Indeed the place I work at the moment has shipped in an office building full of Indian developers, with only a few key people in managerial roles being native brits.

I would say though that DB stuff is where its at, but your mind has to work in a particular way to enjoy it. So look at http://www.sqlcourse.com there are tutorials about various aspects of DB work….
