I used a few different things over the years, got into the habit due to to working in the watersports industry in Spain and ski indusstry in France. I used Kiehls which was great but expensive, and switched to loreal anti fatigue lotion and its great very light and non-greasy.

I used to work in Alpe d’Huez and by April we were skiing in the morning, with a good cover all over the mountain, and then afternoon lounging by the pool which has a lot of sun loungers around. Totally fantastic mix of both. Alpe d’Huez has one of the best sun/snow records in the Alps. Even Les Deux Alpes cn be covered in cloud across the valley and ADH is scorching. Serre Chevalier is quite low so not very snow sure although gets its share of sun in my experience.

I work designing contact centre platforms and the client I am working with at the moment is having to spend the most obscene amount of time and money on their systems to move towards PCI compliance. EVERYTHING has to be thought of, a new system that detects what screen an agent is on in the sales system and then sends a message to the network telling the call recording system to mask the digits the customer is entering for credit cards etc, so that it can’t be listened to via the recording system. Also, the whole network is having to be looked at, as well as the back office systems to ensure that the only things that can possibly have any contact with your card details are non-human!! Its all so complicated, and a few companies have sprung up to provide the technology for all this compliance. I must admit though, I dot like outbound calling :-)

I bent the lowers on my SIDS by leaving the quick release loose and my LBS sent them to SRAM after I chatted to a tech at the mb world cup and they replaced the lowers foc. Try that stating it was a defective seal?

We have a stokke explory and it’s great because it sits the little one very high up so can be used as a high chair also ad it’s fully adjustable. But wasn’t great for forest paths or winter so we also bought a Phil and teds which has been great. Pneumatic tyres give mire comfort for the little one and expandable to take two once you need it. Took the P&T on holiday and couldn’t have lived without it there. Out of the two I’d buy the P&T if I had to choose one

Just to note that depending were your windows are and how many you plan to replace, might be issues with planning and fire regs. They are a primary means of escape especially in a bungalow

Reindeer centre at Glenmore has Santas house etc, quite good. And nearby, squirrel cafe has good food and you can watch the red squirrels. Short walk from that is the beach at Loch Morlich if the weather picks up.

Its not really that simple when contracting as you are usually on a 3 month contract as a resource, not as a particular person. So its not the clients business if you take holidays. You could in theory force the issue but if there is a project which has deadlines which have slipped etc, you just need to be adaptable. Otherwise you risk getting axed come your next extension….

I suppose its not really the Unis fault, as they only supply demand like any other business, although to be fair they are pretty much useless at whatever they are doing. My missus has had an apalling level of support and professionalism from the uni, incompetence bordering on the negligent.

I suppose that there is the whole, if they stop training people for specific things, when things pick up, they are then in a position with resource shortages, its a difficult one. My missus would jump at Australia but Im not so keen, and I know she wouldnt really be happy long term there as she is very family oriented.

Is there no sign that Oz will be impacted by the same pressures that have caused the bad situation here?

Thats interesting guys, thanks for all the input. Good advice about not doing more quals if its not looked on well. She has a lot of Direct and Care Service experience doing care in the community home visits, so she has good hands on experience of the patient care side, hopefully that will help her. We are kind of tied location wise with family and baby etc, although I know a lot of people will say we need to move, its a choice etc etc.

Most of her friends who have headed south are only doing it really to get the 6 months post reg out of the way with a view to heading north as soon as anything comes up. As mentioned above, I cant believe that the headlines arent ablaze with this as its a huge issue and noone seems to be noticing it, unlike the teachers situation which is all over the media.

Thanks guys, unfortunately the Bank in the area requires 6 months post-registration experience, as do most of the roles that come up. I think the only option may be to do some voluntary work or do an auxiliary position until something comes up. Wasnt sure if going for an aux role may actually look worse than just doing some courses?

Thanks for all the replies! I want one cos I saw some pics a mate posted where he was sitting outside with his glowing nicely and a few glasses of wine. Looked amazing. Also had a disposable BBQ at the campsite at Glen Nevis when a few of us were up this year, and we piled some branches on after cooking. Was lovely to sit round and we lasted till 11pm before we got told to put it out :–)

For massive infrastructure projects like the M74 extension, Id love to see a full breakdown of where that money goes. I find it ludicrous the cost of things like this and cant help but feel there must be a few “£1000 hammers” purchased along the way! Is there anywhere they publish that type of data?

Whoops just read your post properly, the one I have is tow ball mounted, but cant see the problem with it. It bolts tightly to the ball and then there is a locking cap which goes over this so noone can get it off

I bought this one from Halfords and its been excellent
    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_172555_langId_-1_categoryId_165515

It fits securely, easily takes three bikes with no taking on and off of wheels etc, and the whole thing tilts away from the car to allow access to hatchback or estate car. Highly recommend.

If someone is long term sick you get someone else to back fill that position, could be a contractor or an existing head.

We went up on the train to the jungfraujoch observatory years ago and walked up to the monch hut. Was absolutely stunning even just that walk and having lunch on the terrace of the hut. Did t have the skills for a climb tho :-)

I suppose I would start by giving a summary/mission statement of your skills, both technical and soft. As you say, soft are more difficult to find and I would emphasise these. Then give a summary of experience and finally qualifications, and other stuff. Then send that to some agencies in that area and see what turns up.

I paid the £165 flat repair fee from BG when my boiler broke down, and the engineer said I had won a watch due to the fact the parts (new main board) on the boiler cost over £300 anyway

Just rented out my flat and our broker said that the lenders say to him that strictly speaking they should be told, but if they don’t then what are they going to do if they find out? As long as the mortgage gets paid each month, who cares?

Oh and I had Office for Mac 2008 previously and it was dire, but the new Office 2011 is a huge improvement, and almost as good as the Windows Office 2010

I use VMWare fusion on my MB Pro with 4GB RAM and W7 runs fine alongside OSX. I can switch back and forward between the two machines, share files and directories between the two sides seamlessly too. I actually installed W7 on bootcamp, but very rarely actually boot into W7, I have just setup the bootcamp partition to be a VM available from within VMware.

I do a lot of application testing on W2008 server, and have test machines which I can fire up in Fusion. Couldnt work without it now. Just make sure you set the best available amount of RAM for the machine you are firing up. I always set the VM to have 2GB RAM, and only ever run one at a time.

The skate park in our local park (Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow) is a great place. Always busy with everyone from tiny kids to amazing guys who I can watch for hours. Must admit, if Im out doing a ride through the park and there is noone around, Im in there like a whippet lol. Great fun and have always thought it must give the best bang for buck in terms of the amenity it provides. Kids hang down there all day in the summer and all seems good with no trouble or drugs or anything.

I listened to the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins and Digital Fortress by Dan Brown and thought they were both very good. Bad Science by Ben Goldacre was not bad and Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich wasnt that good.

I went from a 6 mile round trip cycle commute to a 3 hour round trip car commute, and have to say its not good. Although, I do listen to a lot of podcasts and such and have a travel mug of good coffee, so not too bad. And I did manage to watch three movies on my iphone when I was stuck in the snow this winter for 11 hours!
Given the choice though I would defo do without the commute

I don’t get why you would want a dedicated st app on an iPad anyway? Just get the digital sub, download the PDF and drag it into iTunes, it then appears in iBooks, simples!

By the sounds of the MA studies, you have a good life ahead and have had to struggle to get there. You will move on and be a happier person for this. Old cliche, but what doesnt kill you makes you stronger!

You will meet someone more in tune with your world and look back at how much better things got after this.

I would be wary of f;lickr as this article shows here

I use dropbox as its totally seamless, syncs everything automatically on every device I have, and has the ability to let you restore deleted items from their web portal.

I keep all my work and pics data there. Althought the free account only gives you 2GB space, you can upgrade to whatever you need.
