Still the best mag, but noone has the right to speak to a customer like that! Mark, you should think yourself lucky your not on the wrong end of a gross misconduct dismissal for that twitter comment, I know I would be if I did similar at my company!

Elements of your job may be hard, just like everyone else on the planet but on the whole you should remember that your out riding bikes and being paid for it, so man up and take criticism as the free bonus which it really is!

I use Fusion here and love it. Much prefer to boot camp and you can create all different types of VMs, so I have servers and stuff for work on there so I cn tinker. The unity feature in fusion is great too, where you can run windows apps in a normal window as if they were running natively in mac

Thanks guys, however, Im looking at this and see that they are only 24 hole as opposed to 32 or 36? Does that not mean they are weaker than a 36 hole wheel, or have Mavic overcome this somehow?

Oh and contact the suppliers and see if they can help with freebies at the event. Maybe get your local fuzz involved and a do a bike tagging / marking session at the opening, that might help you get more column inches in the local rag

Know any celebs? Contact all the local cycling clubs, and get them to update their members. If its opening in the spring summer, then a BBQ with a local DJ and free food and beers would work well. Best to work out what your Unique Selling Point is and really push that to all the people you contact, and build a focus on it at your opening BBQ/gig

Yeah Bob is right this is an XC kind of run, just through some nice scenery with some ups and downs. Nothing really technical to justify a pitch, the hardtail would be fine.
I have thought about the train to Dumfries before too, but they were doing work on the line the weekend we were planning. If you do go with the Milngavie route, then as Bob mentions, on the way through Mugdock country park there is lots of exploring to do and some nice little technical bits to play around on.

When I only have time for local trails, take the train with bike from Partick to Milngavie, North of Glasgow. From there follow the signs for the West Highland Way and follow this path which gives you some great scottish scenery, some nice trails and brings you back to Glasgow West End, near the University

Depends what it is. Usually, get as much info out there as possible ASAP, and build it up to an opening. Although its hard to give any good advice without knowing more details.

Maybe your psychology background will be handy if you can sell it that way. From what I understand, the airport security stuff is getting increasingly complex, and Im sure if you get the job, you will rise through the ranks quite quickly with your background. Best of luck mate

Man some people it would appear need far less caffeine rather than more. Its strange, I never think that post on this forum is worthless, if i dont like the subject I just pass the thread by. Why are some never happy unless they are stirring the sh*t as it were. And anyone who starts a sentence with "crikey" and also manages to bring the term "rough and ready bikers" into the mix needs a slap lol
Oh and I will drink most any coffee also, but just prefer Starbucks on the high street.

I suppose coffee is one of those personal taste things. I like the via sachets at work as our machine coffee is minging. I would take a starbucks over any of the big name high street coffee places such as Nero or Costa, but there are some independant coffee shops which I may prefer if Im in their area. People dont like starbucks because of the whole big company conspiracy thing! But for me its about getting a consistantly good brew.
I had noticed the little in-cup filters before but havent tried them. People at work use the M&S one cup plastic filter things which are a major faff.

motion x GPS can record your ride and then upload it to an email as a gpx file. Then go to Bikely.com and when registered it lets you import a gpx file, and save it. You can then see all your rides with distance and total ascent/descent too. Works great

It comes in little one cup sachets like the sachets you get instant in in a hotel room, but Ive just tried it and its almost as good as real filter with none of the bad aftertaste you get with normal instant. Works out at 30p a cup though

BT will probably be able to tarce the call even though it was witheld from the destination. Although the guy was probably working from a phone box or a PAYG mobile which will be untraceable

Ive had a Humax 9200T for years now and its excellent, would highly recommend it. It has a twin tuner, so you can record two things at once and also watch a different channel on your TVs freeview reciever

They have no right to chase you in Scotland, I think thats the key difference. Although I think there are some restrictions on open mountainsides here and there due to Deer stalking seasons and the like, although Ive never came across any restrictions or problems. In Scotland, there seems to be more of a "lets get along" attitude, although you may get the odd grunt from walkers. Ive had much more problems, and abuse from pedestrians in Glasgow on my commute, where the cycle path and pavement are shared.

I cant believe that its so anal in England, I mean what difference does a few mountain bikers going through a field on a path make?? Is it a pre-requisite of being a landowner that you have to be a total tw*t? Even if that field were mine, I couldnt bring myself to go up to anyone and say "Get orf my land!". Unless of course they were driving a JCB or something!
Again, thank **** for being north of the border!

Im not "clumsy" at all, been riding for about 9 years and not had problems before. I do think its the age of the wheel, as the front wheel got replaced about a year ago due to theft, and its been fine. Not really bothered about getting custom built wheels as its a fair bit more expensive I would have thought, and factory wheels are tensioned by a machine I would imagine, so would be better.
Rebuilding the current rim isnt an option, as the hub is cheapo, and by the time you buy new spokes and get them built, it would be better and cheaper to get a complete wheelset. Will look at the wheels mentioned, thanks for the advice all.

I am a 42 waist Renton and Ive had the same problem. I now use Fox Sergeant shorts and they are the only ones that fit me. They are really stretchy and are available to try on in Evans or any normal bike shops. Give em a try

Id still recommend takin the train from Glasgow Queen St to Crianlarich and see how you enjoy the top part, then come back and do it all another time.
I havent actually cycled the section from Rowardennan to Inverarnan, and its years since I walked it.

    scottyjohn

A mate and I have done the way north of crianlarich on a couple of occasions and its one of my fav weekend trips. We got train to Crianlarich and cycled to Kinlochleven day 1 and then Kinlochleven on to FW day 2 and then train back to Glasgow. First time we stayed at bunkhouse in Kinlochleven, and the second time, instead of going over the devils staircase we went down to Glencoe with a bit of road work from Kingshouse to The top of the glen and then a great path which runs to the left of the road and is excellent. We then stayed in the Clachaig and got a taxi which took bikes back to Kingshouse in the morning.

Havent cycled any of the loch lomond side, but agree having walked it that all is doable apart from some small bike carrying sections on the bit between Inversnaid and Inverarnan. The bit between Inverarnan and crianlarich is good too, defo going to do it again this spring/summer

Iain, sorry about your friend mate, its not good to lose someone like that. I was sitting in the slow lane of the carraigeway as I came to the end of the dual section, and the truck was doing roughly the same speed as me so I didnt cut in or anything, I had been behind the truck for a while. It was just the curve of the road is very gentle at that point, and the truck obscured my view. I suppose the fact that the truck and the cars behind me were all doing the same speed, that it slipped my mind to slow from 70 to 60, and yes Im in the wrong. On the OP, I do agree that speed limits in roadworks are important as there is a definite safety issue there for the guys working.

Im not the one taking the time to "quote" other posters threadsjust because he was having a bit of a rant. At the end of the day, everyone goes little over the speed limit now and again, and if you cant have a quick rant about it on a forum for like-minded people without being flamed its a sad day. But hey ho, Ill be the bad guy for the day  lol
