Hmm. Im a big guy and a small camelback would look stupid on me I think. I have a Da Kine from my skiing days which is great, but quite big and heavy which is probably why I dont want to use it. There isnt enough room on the seatpost, but I wonder if I can get a snug enough fit next to the bottle cage with cable ties

Do the West Highland Way, some of the best scenery in the UK and really remote feeling, all over 3 days! :-D

    Hi mate,
There is a small forest training area a couple of miles south of the centre in Pollock Park which a lot of guys use, and I always jump on the train to Milngavie and take the start of the West Highland Way into Mugdock country park where there are lots of little rabbit runs to find. Nothing hugely taxing but gets you out the city in about 20 minutes of train journey. Maybe look for MTB club in the area as this will probably have trips arranged to the Stanes. Drop me your email and Ill give you a shout if there is a free car space when we are heading down, although missus having a baby soon may hinder day trips :-D

Its a constant source of frustration to me living and cycling in the city that there seems to be an underlying anger towards cyclists. What this journalist fails to disclose is the probable ding ding of bell, and the polite excuse me as the guy came up behind her. This happens to me constantly and is amazing at how seemingly normal people outright refuse to take one step aside and let me pass. I had thought it was due to the low intelligence not allowing their feet to get commanded by their brain quickly enough, but Ive since came to the conclusion that they just hate us!
On the other hand the guy may have been a dick, but in my experience he was probably polite up till the point where he lost it. You can tell by the way she talks about him screaming up behind her, that she just got started and then reacted badly.
I for one will be writing to the Herald, and if any of the editorial staff on here fancy drafting a response article, perhaps we can pressure the Herald to allow a submission to balance this issue up?

Flying i the single worst place to catch a bug as the air is all recirculated, so if one person sneezes it passes right through the cabin.

I had a turn a few years ago, was getting ready to go to the gym one evening at home, and suddenly couldnt balance and had to lie on the floor. It was the strangest thing. Crawled to my bed and climbed up, and when my GF came home about 15 minutes later, she sh*t herself as my speech was slurred and my mouth was drooping, numb down one side too! What was really weird was that I felt normal other than I couldnt remember the name of things or her! I knew the lamp beside the bed was a lamp just didnt know the name for it. Totally weird. She called NHS24 and they said to get me to hospital ASAP. Went there, but by the time I got there, it was getting better and I just felt really sick, and exhausted. Took me about a week to feel totally normal again. Went to to specialists etc, and it turns out it was a Haemoplegic Migraine, which gives all the symptoms of a brain haemmorage, but is obviously temporary.

Havent had anything like it since

Cheers guys, will try the "pulling the chain off at 9 oclock" thing. But will just get a couple of new chain rings anyway as I think its probably well overdue!

Another thing I cant understand, When I got the bike initially, I was able to use all three chainrings, and get full range on all the cassette cogs, but the bike got stolen and returned to me, and needed a new chain and front mech. I got the bike back and since then have never been able to get onto the big chainring. Ive changed the chain once before to try and sort the length out, but if its loose enough to get onto the big ring, at the lowest gear, ring combo, its hanging loose. Cant understand it. Cant even remember if they changed the rear mech after it was stolen, I suppose if they did and fitted a short cage as opposed to a long cage, that would cause the problem?

I did it last year on a clear blue day with a bunch of mates and it was dusty heaven. I was there yesterday too and it was hellish. riding through cloud most of the time and hardly saw a soul all day! Mind you it was like that the last time too, we were the only people in the car park then too.
I like the boardwalk bit at the top and the edge is good fun too.

I have the 9503 for about a year now and its excellent. Thule also do a lock for the securing bolt so you can lock the carrier to the towball, and then use a normal bike chain lock to secure the bike to the carrier.
Never moves an inch when mounted and Ive had three big bikes on. The tilt function is great and I can open the back of my A4 avant with bikes on.

Ae forest was okay today but sodden and miserable! Bottom small part of red has a diversion up a forest road due to fallen trees and there was an unmarked tree blocking the path at Bran Burn Bash which took me by surprise! Had to push bike under and clamber over to get past :-D

All the rest was fine, but very wet and slippy

Sorry to hear that mate. Also go post on the Bikeradar forum as they have a section for stolen bikes, and an eagle eyed bike tech from Bike Chain in Dumbarton road, got mine back for me after it was stolen from Glasgow Harbour. Guy who brought it into him for a repair said he bought it at Yoker market, may be worth a trip there? He obviously didnt know the cost of the bike he had, and the tech had seen my post on the stolen section there. So there may be hope! Also a run round all the local shops and you may get lucky.

If I see anything about Ill mail you ASAP.

By the response you have had so far "ask your sister if she has seen it", Id say the police will be their usual, "ashtray on motorbike" level of usefulness! Although you need to report to them for insurance claim purposes, but other than that I wouldnt expect much help.

If you like space stuff, and you are near an IMAX cinema, there is a movie called "Space Station 3D" filmed by Locheed Martin and NASA, and its the most amazing thing Ive ever seen, go see it!!

I think that nobody is perfect, but in that situation, the police have to be aggressive to control the situation. Its well known that if you be namby pamby about a situation, its can get out of control very quickly. I dont have a problem with the coppers actions at all, as in general I want to live in a society where people have boundaries and handle their disputes through the courts or the media/politicians. Although admittedly it can get frustrating if you feel like your not being listened to.

I had a heavy duty motorcycle chain and padlock and the gits cut it like cheese! Got my bike back though and now keep it chanined to a massive post in my basement garage with a Kryptonite New York D-Lock as a padlock, and went to a nearby marine chain provider. Discussed it with the guy there, and he sold me an end cut of heavy duty security chain which is resistant to cropping and grinding. He showed me how tough it was in his yard with a huge pair of croppers, which he bounce up and down on and it hardly marked it! He said the only way to cut it was with a oxy acetylene cutter. Again he demod this and it took him about 2 minutes at full burn. He sold me about 2 metres for £20, and no stolen bike since :-D

I worked from home for a year with maybe one day a fortnight at a central office. It was good for so long as if it was a nice day, Id slope off on the bike and work later on. But I started to really miss interaction with others. Got to the stage I was working out of the local coffee shop just to be in an office-like buzz!

Do you need to change from a long cage rear mech to a short cage when moving from the triple setup to double? An LBS kindly replaced my chain last year and made it too short, so havent been able to use my full range of gears or big ring for a year and havent missed it. May need to do as above to give me a slightly longer top gear and remove the dead weight of the big ring Im not using!
