Ah ha that is what I was after, just a bit more compact as I only need cover 30T ring.

Gonna go the DIY route I reckon.

Just thought as well, the bolts thread directly into the raceface ring, so how do you a bash with it? Have to get extra long chainring bolts?

It’s obviously very sad for family and friends, and must be deeply crushing for them.

So I’m sure we all send heart felt condolences to them.

….but you have to halfway think….good on him for getting out there…and hopefully that will give his folks some comfort.

I ride on my own a lot and I’m not very gifted so I always have in mind Specialized’s video from the early ’90s that went…

    IF IN DOUBT, BOTTLE OUT.

Don’t risk lying in a hospital bed for two months rerunning that particular rockfest through your head over and over again, because once you’ve done it, it will always come back to the same hospital bed. If you get off and walk that section, you get to carry on unscathed without the hassles.

I broke this rule about six weeks ago on a solo Lakeland evening ride and crashed heavily down a rocky shute that was too big for my abilities and the bike I was riding. To my relief everything seemed to be working once I got up, so I pedaled home. But I had to visit Furness General the next day because my arm had ceased to function, luckily nothing broken.

You live, you learn. You unlearn, you live …hopefully….and hopefully this has a positive in that it gives us all a reality check..

    Billyboy,

I completely understand the reasoning behind your post and appreciate your efforts to warn riders to think carefully about the consequences of their actions and ride within their ability, particularly when alone.

    However your mantra “if in doubt bottle out” is possibly the antithesis of everything my incredible Dad stood for. He was a brilliant, experienced mountaineer and though I’m no expert was pretty good on a mountain bike. I resent your post for two main reasons;

The first is that it implies he was stupid/irresponsible.He wasn’t. In fact he was incredibly unlucky on Sunday; the coroner got in touch today to let us know he died instantly, before he fell some distance, from a broken neck. He had therefore simply landed very awkwardly. He was just so unlucky.

The second reason I resent your post is because you register how deeply sad and “crushing”this must be for his family but obviously haven’t really registered it because you’ve just made me a bit more sad. Well done mate.

My name’s Ruth, I’m the rider who died’s daughter (sorry I’m using my fella’s login as I don’t have my own!) and I strongly suggest that unless you have something helpful to say or actually knew the stunning, hilarious and all round ace mountain man my Dad was you pipe down.

    Safe riding.

    John’s daughter x

Its Llandegla compared to the rest of the tracks on the ciruit. Looks a lot of fun though

Has anyone come across a mountain morph type design with one of those heads that works for both valve types without swapping bits around? Only way it could be made even better I reckon.

I was wondering about conditions too…… was lethal last weekend around high peak, most of the rock seemed to have this thin invisible film of ice on it

I was showed the downtube across the back of your shoulders method recently, as per alfabus, and it was a revelation! Once you’ve found the balancing point it leaves your hands free for scrambling when the going gets steep

The ones I’ve seen didn’t seem too bad but it has been around brightly lit streets so guess I didn’t get the full effect.

Anyway, no way I can afford one of those just for commuting and already have a DX for night rides.

outside foot down, inside knee out, brake before the corner not during and look at the exit.

Sounds like it’s a headfuck you’re having though so as sunnrider says I’d find a corner that’s giving you difficulties and session it till it feels right.

This nonsense about running being her favourite passtime too, clearly fabricated for the case.

I’d be surprised that chuffer could run a single lap of a McDonalds car park

Can’t see that a few more danger signs would have made any difference, there a presumably loads of them all over as at every climbing wall.

Don’t know what the solution is. It would be sad if walls stopped providing team building, beginner sessions or kids parties due to fear of being sued.

They say they did follow it though – seems to be her word against theirs but hers has been more believed. And I bet there are also safety notices/warning signs all over the shop. There has been in every climbing wall I’ve been to.

I stand by my earlier comment. This woman is profiteering and should be set on fire.

She works in the insurance business FFS and knows full well how the system works and is milking it hard.

It’s us who will end up paying for morons like her as walls increase entry fees to cover their insurance

The bouldering walls I’ve been to has massive signs telling you to down climb, not walk underneath climbers etc, on top of the whole common sense thing, disclaimer when signing up and being told what to do by the instructors, that ‘given no briefing’ is clearly a lie.

Burn the lawyers and judges, but this profiteering arse hole of a woman should be burnt hottest of all.

Is the bottom of doctor’s gate not a massive bog at the moment?

Good footage of the beast at the end of this video.. (full face helmets aren’t the norm btw)

Yeah, now you mention it I don’t think there is a consensus on which one is which. I’ve only climbed up the one from hagg side (whatever its called!) once a while ago. Shame to hear it’s been flattened I remember it being pretty nice.

    its this turnoff here… link

then you can either ride along the road to pick up the rowlee farm climb which is ridable or go up hagg farm which is mostly a push (for me at least)

Yep loving Nab’s wood too, otherwise known as the screaming mile!

I would personally turn off the Roman road to the right at Hope Cross and take ‘the beast’ down to the A57 rather than carrying straight on to the potato alley, much better descent IMO and a true peak classic.

You can pop the milk in before or after you seat the tyre.

I tend to do it after it’s seated as I’m ham fisted and likely to spill the sealant all over the place if it’s in there whilst I’m trying to get the tyre on. Just inflate the tyre till it pops, then pull a small section of the tyre off the rim to pour the sealant in and pump it up again.

Soapy water always helps but I still seem to make a meal of it. Best to use a compressor if you can get access to one, or some CO2 cannister unless you are a daemon with the track pump. Good luck!

You’d get a lot more options if you just went for a 50mm!

Thanks buddy that would be great.

Definitely chuck my bike on the back of the car then. I had a look on google earth and there seems to be a lot of fireroads and a few less defined tracks. Guess it might be a case of getting out there and exploring.

I have 42a swampies for dh and they’re infinitely better than minions as soon as there’s a layer of mud on the track. If there’s a deep layer it’s spikes. GW talks bollox!

I think doctors that the NHS has trained at a huge cost should be required to give a percentage of any money they earn using these skills in private practise back to the NHS

Ooops think I’ve got that wrong, davewalsh is right, it just wont take up the slack in the smaller cogs. They snap when the chain is too short

    scottidog
    Free Member

You’ll risk snapping either the mech or mech hanger if you go with the medium cage and have a lapse in concentration

Each cage size can handle a certain capacity. You need to figure out what capacity you need by adding together the difference in the number of teeth between the largest and smallest rings and largest and smallest cassette cogs.

Pretty sure you should run a long cage

they’ll be a million times stiffer.
    Internet FACT!!!!

I have actually ridden both and it’s true! QR drop outs should really only be allowed on road bikes.

My bike club gave us little laminated cards with our NOK details, allergies etc on to keep in our camelbacks. Pretty good idea I thought.

Also have an ICE contact in my phone and don’t have a passcode. If someone has nothing better to do than read my emails they’re welcome!

I think you’d regret not getting the 36’s, especially compared to a QR drop out 32 they’ll be a million times stiffer.

Nothing wrong with the place just good honest fun. Another +1 for everything DBW says here

Even when the car park is heaving it never seems that busy when you’re actually out in the forest.

Skills section is fun too, great set of dirt jumps for learning on, good drops line and a good pump track. Only thing that doesn’t quite work is the freeride line where it’s a bit too much effort to get up to speed.
