    chalky type soil

There is no chalk at Pippingford.
Its sandy/sandstone near top of the hill and more clay down by the lakes.
Its a bit like PORC as far as soil type but a bigger, longer hill.

But from the statement it suggests that it will be multiple organisers. This could really help the BDS.

    i.e.

Rd1 – North England – Borderline Events or NDH
    Rd2 – Scotland – SDA
Rd3 – North Wales – Borderline Events or Pearce
Rd4 – Southern England – Chris Roberts(Combe sydenham) or woodland riders (gawton) or ???
    Rd5 – Scotland – SDA
Rd6 – Southern Wales – MIJ or Pearce

Could be a fresh start for SDA too these two big races and make the Scottish DH series smaller and more grassroots.

Out of interest – although I don’t think I’m going to do it again next year, does anyone have any experience of similar enduros that are maybe a little less ‘technical’? I loved the social aspect of it and the competition- really well organised event in my VERY limited experience!

Southern Enduro are pretty straight forward. There’s also a few in Wales that run primarily on trail centres.
Depends where you are based up north PMBA and hope tech women’s only enduro. Down south the southern enduro series is the smart choice ;)

Riders have set off times so they could be self-seeded at the point of ticket sale. Rate themselves 1-5 and then your start time can reflect your skill/fitness level. It won’t be perfect but better that catching lots of people up.

It’s a safety issue if you have really fast people with really slow. If you can make that a bit better/safer pre event it would be good for all.

Out of interests do Ardrock seed or attempt to separate faster and slower riders?

so looking ahead to 2019 (assuming the current application process, etc stays the same) If there was a UK EWS round in 2019 and I want to apply, Do I have to have done some enduros and collected qualification points (e.g. done wges dyfi or tweed love) in 2018 or do the points just give you a better chance of getting a place.
At the momonet it a lotto. No points currently but that is something BEMBA is working on/looking at.

    Hi Shan

I’m a key member of the QECP Trail Collective and we work closely with HCC to maintain and improve the trail network at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. QECP would make a great hub for mountain biking in the south down national park.

SDNP is one of the worst NP’s for promoting and investing in cycling IMO.

I can ride my trail bike on a DH trail, it’s called enduro racing

Plus it will be cheaper than £96. 2 day enduro is about £60 – £70

It might give a short term boost to numbers but not a long term fix.

    Me personally:

Would I travel to do a ‘big’ DH race:

Pearce, Yes on prices and accessibility.

BDS, No on prices and accessibility.

A bit like HT categories at Enduro events – maybe a dozen on a good day.

18 on a good day[/url] bigger that 50% of the catorgories at the last BDS

It’s not a patch on, say, Pila or La Thuile but I really like it.

This, Pila is the best place I have ever ridden.

Even cutting back to basic medical cover, timing, land hire, marshal fees etc… I couldn’t do it for less that 80 riders, unless the entry fee was £45 but that makes it not very good value for money for a basic event.

    It’s subsidised IIRC.

I wonder if a sponsors or some sort of sporting body?

However it’s their choice to enter, not yours. Hence this argument is a dead end.

Not really there are only 2 women only enduro’s in the UK so.

Real pros to Enduro Maiden for putting on these events because no one else is.

I have been working hard in the south to make enduro more attractive and accessible for women but I have had to say no to organising women only events.

BTW QECP enduro is next weekend, maybe some tickets still available ? It won’t be beyond you technically and you can always walk a bit

This is the only round of the southern endure series that isn’t sold out:

After the race it was clarified and he already apologized for it.

    Did he?

I think he has been punished enough now DQ and media report about it.
Its good focus are sticking with him. They should tidy up that statement and release it, maybe via the Dirt report

Don’t I know it – 6 weeks & counting of being broken from another idiotic rider incident causing me to have a massive crash at the Ireland EWS!

Exactly, thats why the biggest races in the world need to start dealing with issues like this properly etc…

’tis a bit weird that no media have run with this.

I’d imagine it’s probably more to do with no-one really caring in reality. A few people on here who arn’t affected by it at all, some professionally offended types & that’s about it.

As a race organisers I hate seeing stuff like this in bike races, EWS is worse! Spectators everywhere, people pushing up tracks etc… Everyone that watches EWS elite riders POV and see all the unsafe practices. Then they turn up a local races and do the same.

You try your best to improve safety standard in your series and the UK in general via BEMBA. Then you watch the EWS and bang your head against the wall!

    EN1 on the map

I intending on doing it next year, I have a score to settle with the mega. I think the carnage is half the appeal, 350 mass start on a glacier etc… the an hour gruelling hour of overtaking people and being overtaken.

Southern enduro rd 1 was on 70% DH trails at a bike park.

Rounds 2, 3 & 4 there will not be a trail centre trail in sight.

    big man made features!

When you say big man made features do to mean fireroads or jumps and berm. There are both in the course, all very rollable.
