Where did you get ‘Distinct competitors at UK enduro events’ data from? I couldn’t see it on the site.

    From Seb at R&R

In the wider context. 3 national series have failed due to lack of numbers, and there has been general doom and gloom in comments sections after each of those.

First the is the didn’t fail because a lack of riders. They failed because the riders choose other events over theirs.

Blog is not bad. Graphs are ok but to many, what about just some numbers instead. Here are so more interesting stuff from R&R:
Distinct competitors at UK enduro events:

    2011 699
    2012 1716
    2013 2985
    2014 4890
    2015 6384
    2016 8325
    2017 9425
    2018 7754 (to date)

    And for DH:

    2011 4199
    2012 4889
    2013 4272
    2014 4205
    2015 4912
    2016 4647
    2017 5105
    2018 3646 (to date)

Total competitors(Which is one of your graphs):

    Enduro:

    2011 1160
    2012 2771
    2013 5355
    2014 10037
    2015 13536
    2016 17635
    2017 18508
    2018 13212 (to date)

    DH:

    2011 13495
    2012 14768
    2013 13391
    2014 13001
    2015 14050
    2016 13358
    2017 13649
    2018 7911 (to date)

Is each organiser going to host a specific event which makes up part of UK series (how I expected it would be) or will a pre-existing event in each series be designated as a UK round (how it sounds in the article)?

Not sure how much I’m meant to say yet but… a bit off both Pre-existing, successful, one off events.

Hopefully it will be a show case of the UK best enduro’s and be a stepping stone to the EWS for riders from the UK. Whilst still be open and accessible to all levels of riders.

looked after in other ways (freebies, entries etc).

I would say 60-70% of our marshals are non riders, free entry or mtb stuff is not great payment for them.

but marshal that volunteer regularly have life time free entry if they ever want to race or give it a go as far as I’m concerned.

I can only imagine the land cost, medical and infrastructure costs for the Ard rock. I’m sure they make some money but they put a lot of work in.

Private land/farmers charge a lot compare to the FC.

At Southern Enduro we give our marshals the Price £42.5 for 1 dayers or £80 for 2 dayers(champs).

This is not wages its to cover their expenses and make sure they are not left out of pocket in anyway.

We are massively grateful to the marshals for the time they volunteer, events would run without them.

Our champs marshalling total was £3200, it adds up quick.

    “More portaloos next time”

You would of thought they learn from last year!

Same thing, not enough & they where v bad Sat night Sunday.

Yes fair point, we doubled them lasts year, lots more people camped this year and loads more spectators. probably because of the nice weather.

As I said lesson learnt, more and emptied on sat afternoon next year.

Chatted to the marquee people after the event and these are recommended so will look at getting some nicer toilets as well as more. https://exmoorluxuryloos.co.uk/

Big lesson learnt on the loos, 20+ next year and pumped Saturday afternoon. Bigger skip too.

Just rode/cleared all the stages they are running great and should be prime for the Ex if anyone is doing it(highly recommended).

Please be aware stages 4-7 are on private land and if lots of people ride them out of races it could have a negative impact on Southern Enduro and the Ex using them again.

Thanks everyone for coming and making the event successful.

I find it had to believe you don’t have 2 bikes, you need a fun(non carbon) hardtail.

I can confirm the tracks are unbelievably loose, something like a shorty is a good shout. Hopefully the worst of it will get cleared off the tracks with lots of rider.

There will be at least 1 place to watch the football on site Sunday afternoon.

To late for entry swaps BTW.

I haven’t done more than one wrap of tape before. Just go for one tight layer of gorilla tape.

Also sometimes I inflate the tyre with no sealant in then add it after through the removable valvecore.

A mate at work is doing this.

    Looks like a good series.

    Is there Midlands equivalent?

Your closest will be the Welsh Enduro Series probably

You could build a kick-ass Banshee Prime for way less than that and have a better, more versatile bike to boot.

Frame only they are similar price.

One thing this post has made me realize is that I would like to own a Cotic frame one day. I have ridden friends Solaris and Soul before and enjoyed them, I think the new gen BFE is the first one I have thought I won’t like to own but I have a PP Shan 27.5 and its very similar so at the moment it is a no go. Escapade is something I have been curious about too.

There is something inspiring I found about riding the friends Cotic’s that I didn’t find when I rode a friends Stanton’s. Not sure what it is but I’m sure I will own one before to long.

Scattergun marketing aside and thinking 500 likes from 10 year olds converts to sales, eventually the shit hits the pot and you sell something

Well if that is what is happening they will fail, there is no longevity in randomly selling in a scattergun market.

However if they don’t fail they will compliment the top UK bands as mentioned above offering something a bit different. I for one can’t wait to see where exciting and expanding UK scene goes from here.

Away man ,The sick boys launch a new product every day , admittedly they have pretty much all been fictional vaporware or made out of really crap chinese off the shelf items

You realize they have designed all their frame right? None of them have been off the shelf Taiwanese or Chinese frame like many other brands use.

I was cycling around tunnel hill on Saturday and was really surprised st the trail destruction that’s gone on due to the logging

I was there last night, I could of done a better job driving the forwarder than them and I haven’t driven one before. Looks like the DIO said to them make as much mess as you can.

They’re pure fannies and seemed to glory in being pure fannies.

I like fannies, probably explains why I like the Sick boys too.

The geometry for Grim Ripper is proven though, as it’s the exact same as the Gnarcassist.

The Grim Ripper has a shorter wheel base than my Gnarcissist but the rest of the Geo is similar. If you look at the range it looks massive but is only 5 frames really in different materials (Ti, 853 & 4130) and Pinion versions.

Can you actually buy them though, or is it just T shirts and stuff they are doing these days?

    Yes: http://sickbicycleco.bigcartel.com/category/frames

I also think selling t-shirts and stuff was/is a good way to financing prototyping of frames/bike.

Kingdom also do lovely looking Ti frames!
