Q1 – The two green trails are very long and would be fine low speed.
Q2 – not sure if there would be any thing that small to rent. There were 24″ wheel full suss.

Do you start each stage in the same position/order as the first ? Or does that change depending on the last stage time? Or would that just be really hard to organise!? I’m obviously worried about being incredibly fast (cough – slow) and getting stuck (in the way) behind (of) other riders

Yeah that would make it to complicated. For this year we will keep the timing as simple as possible. The idea of the self seeding was to get people racing around people of a similar level. If we do a series next year we can seed people a bit better from this event and the first rounds.

    Time bonuses for baking?

Or a podium for Best Cake 8)

    scottfitz

My cake baking is probably better than my enduro racing – if I bake a really good cake, will that excuse me for a really rubbish performance on the trails…?!!

No, 7 ladies I’m expecting to see you on the podium 😉
& at the moment you are setting off 3rd, so you will have 2 in from of you to overtake!!

We Need some marshals for the race, If you are anyone you know is up for it. if you have first aid training to that would be a bonus. You will be need from 8 till 4 and we will pay you £10 and buy you Lunch.
    Contact me at scott@qecptrailcollective.co.uk

Also if you are racing or coming along to watch we will have a tea, coffee and cake stand with all the money going to the trail building. If you like to bake or know someone that does feel free to donate a cake or two.

We will also have the donation box in the sign on tent, again all the money goes back in to the trails.

    Only one question –

How far from the toilets to the start? Do bears sht in the wood?

At race village which you pass on the transition stage.

So 3 optional hours of practice and then the event starts in which there are 4 timed downhill stages, each with their own allocated start time for each rider, with “not flat out” transitions back to the top for the next timed stage.

Yes but when you say Downhill stages that not strictly true. Every stage will drop at least 100 meters but they will be short sharp uphill bits and sections with flatish flowy single track.

If you look at updade 1 http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/qecp-gravity-enduro-update
the last pic shows a profile of one of the stages (You can see the small up)

I was hoping the XTR Shadow mech would stop chain slap but there’s plenty of paint chips that say otherwise!

So hang on.. you get 3 hours to ride up at your own pace, and try and set good times on the downhill section, best time counts – is that how it works?

No you race each of the 4 stage once with a set start time for each stage. The stage all drop about 105meters in elevation and gain about 3 to 7 meters depending on the stage. In practice you can ride the stages as many times as you want in the 3 hours but I would only ride the ones to check out features and lines etc…

    I think i’m entered in to this…?!

    Yes you are 😀

(Assuming that I am) I’m damn nervous…! I’m used to xc races but for some reason this is terrifying me! I don’t quite understand the format either

How alarming are the downs then??! Body armour? FF? If you look at the pics we were all in open face helmets, M0rk was on his 29er and no knee pads, ewan had just knee & shin, the rest of just knee.

Best thing to do is bring as much as you have and make the call for you self in practice.

    Hi

When we sign on first thing (whats the earliest time for this?) do we get given our start time so we can work out how long we have to practise etc?

    cheers

Sign on will open at 8.15 and you will start near by.
Practice will be from 8.30 till 11.30 for all rides. First racer (PRO) will leave the start at the race village at 11.30.

Tim – if you change to sport cat we can race together… Go on….

DrP Yep you can hold hands too 😉 we don’t judge 😯

Sport will have 40mins to complete the stage and get back to the top for the next one.

There is a possibility we might make the transition times longer if it looks like the weather turns but we will make that call before we release the start times.

Also if anyone wants to ride with their mates send me an email (you must be in the same category) or if you want to swap categories email me too for that.

Surprised there doesn’t seem to be a lot of interest in this

If it was in the south i would be very intersted. But i could fly to spain for some winter riding in the time it takes to get to Manchester.

Chris36860 – do the shim mod (search for rp23 shim mod) to your RP23. Was the first thing I did to my Heckler when I got my frame. Makes a massive improvement to the shock.

Dantsw13 – did you get 2 offset bushings for your Heckler? I just bought 1 in an attempt to lower the BB a little, only ridden it once, but I might get a 2nd.

I have 160 vengeance on my Heckler, and onyl recently realised how high the BB is after test riding a few new trail bikes.

The pre ’12 Heckler is a little too steep for my liking. I had 150 revs on previously and always felt that it could be better on the downs being a little slacker. 160 forks beef it up considerably and match the stiffness of the rest of the bike, plus complement the 150 rear very well. I dont find it any trouble climbing. Also never suffered from pedal bob, but that might be how I pedal.

The 07-10 models had pinch bolts on teh swingarm and also thinner walls on the tubes around the pivot. Pinch bolts breaking were pretty common, and I also cracked the tube wall so had to get a replacement swingarm from Jungle. The newer design is a lot better. I would try and get a 10+ model.

Comfortable and good fun. It might not be the fastest bike out there for most of your general trail riding, but as a solid, simple, pretty reliable do it all, its not bad at all. I love to two tone green paint job!!

Most of the races I enter have a higher percentage of 29ers now than they did a year or so ago.

Most of the races i enter have no 29ers but the last race i did had some 29ers and 650b mostley 26er though.

Thanks – Is it worth taking the canal to stay away from the traffic or just an unnecessary complication.

In my experience all canal tow paths are fine on a road bike if it’s dry. No need to 6″ of travel for those!
I rode on that bit of canal path about 4 years ago and i can’t remember what the surface is.

    Any locals know?

I know the bit from farnham to portsmoth is all good and there are some nice bits of road after petersfield.

Won’t they always have a place for XC racing?

    Yes roadies struggle on 26ers

The bit past woking is on the canal path, i don’t think that bit is paved but not 100% sure.

Probably a 32:16 which is on there at the moment.

Are elbow pads worth a consideration? That is what I run. You will spin out but there are lots of bit where no one will be pedalling down.

If you have them you might as well. There is going to be a morning practice so you can make the call after practice.

Hi Jimmers I am one of the QECP Trail collective organising the event.

Bike is a C456 with Sektor coil 150mm (u-turn) forks upfront and wide-ish tyres

    sounds perfect.

It will be great fun on a SS. I run SS in the winter if i can be bothered. what ratio are you running?

If I was racing it I would where my knee pads, gloves, Glasses & Open face helmet.

Any other questions fell free to ask. (I can’t tell you the route) 😉

As far as i know specialized are the only brand to just offer 29er with no 26er option in most of its bikes.
How else is tell me i can’t have 26″ wheels?

Couldn’t see it being better than a Mattock in the chalk trail round me

Though, probably easier to fit in your camelbak.

Agreed but my point was i don’t think its up to the job. Maybe better in sandy soil types where its easy to dig.
