    Hmmm,

Tempted, not been to Rogate for a long while…
Rogate is getting much better these days, lots of improvement/maintenance in the last 12months. They seem to have a good trail team there at the moment.

Flat or SPD’s (I’m normally clipped in)? what your used to.
Is it best to use a full face helmet? If you have one yes
    456 (with 140 rev’s) or 26″ Camber (120 FS)? Both
Is there a beginner friendly trail or should I play pin the tail on the donkey and let fate choose? Corkscrew
Shall I get a friend to film it as £200 from you’ve been framed could go towards fixing the bike? you will be fine, enjoy!

THEY ARE NOT A DROPPERS YOU PRESS THE BUTTON AND IT GOES UP!

Agree erecting post is a better description than dropper post.

Scott – details about the Thomson dropper here http://m.pinkbike.com/news/Thomson-Frame-and-Covert-Dropper-Seatpost-Core-Bike-2014.html due out in may, 125mm drop. Action slows down at temps close to zero apparently, I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting one anyway though. Cheaper to get a new frame and a reverb I reckon. I’m sure KS, xfusion or Gravity dropper will follow at some point.

Just out of interest how did all you lot that think droppers are great run your seat post before you got a dropper?

Up for the up, dropped for the downs.

    see new thompson.

not heard of that, more info?

,need to get up to speed on what all these races mean like gravity based enduro and the like,I’m new to all racing

From UKGE page, pretty good description:

    What is enduro racing?

Enduro racing is not a downhill race neither is it a cross country race, its a mix of the 2, you’ll need to have riding skills + fitness for these events, the stages or timed sections are usually pointing down, but can have short climbs and flat sections also, the terrain will also vary from trail centre type to natural root and rock. After each stage there is a non timed section to your next stage, this usually involves riding uphill for some distance and varies on venue and stage.

I would like yo start raving but don’t know where to find the info on up and coming events, would anyone have any suggestions where I could get this info please?

If it is Gravity based enduro you are after then here is a list of nearly all of them: Roots & rain Enduro[/url]
Keep a special eye out for these races:
Day & Night Enduro, QE Country Park & Trail Collective Enduro, QE Country Park
I hear the organizer is a super great guy 8) 😕

how did you find it Scottfitz?

    what was the course like?

    I liked it.

    Stage 1 (In Newnham park)
A flat out sprint on fast flowy single track, not very technical but you could get yep some real speed if you got on the pedals. Even with all the rain it held up really well apart from one or two muddy corners near the end. (2nd best stage in my opinion)

    Stage 2 (In Cann woods)
Really good stage, Started on off camber rooty single track with a couple of line choices over the roots if you could make it stick. Then drops in to a DH track with lots of cool features and a gully/trench/steep bit to finish. Loads o grip to be had on this one even the rooty bits where grippy at speed 🙂 Best stage!!!

    Stage 3 (In Newnham park)
Up hill start/sprint which I liked, then it turn in to more twity single track with some nice technical corners, bit muddy but still grip to be had. The last bit was not to my liking very thin bench cut which was very slippy, very close to lots of tree which I probably hit all of them. Could have doing a bit more cutting in given the conditions but that’s a very minor point on a very well put together course.

Good length to the stages too.

Really good day, good value too. Cann woods stage made it really I would have been happy for all the stages to be in there 😉 but Newnham park made a really good base camp.
Timing system seemed good to, shame it didn’t work on stage 3 (I think they said it was user error)

Shame no prize giving on the day but I think everyone was very wet and muddy a just wanted to get home.

I finished 33rd out of 129 in the end, happy with that.

I can’t make round 2 as I have a local clash (Gravity project rd 1 @ Rogate) but if your in the Southwest its well worth a crack.

The standard Prophet frame is rated for a 140mm fork. Only the MX version had the internal gussets allowing the use of 160mm forks. So be careful putting a 160mm fork on a standard frame.

had mine on there for 2 year now, race DH on them and there great. If I was to replace them for any reason it would be with another 160mm set of forks. The axle to crown is 543mm not a big deal really.

OK an I will list it in the order if I did it again.

    1. Gravity Dropper post £150ish (would also consider a Xfusion HiLo)
    2. Raceface atlas 765mm wide bars and 60mm stem £40ish
    3. Forks Rockshox lyriks coil 160mm, I go a 1.5′ steers you can pic them up really cheap I got mine for £300. If I had the money I would have gone for the new pikes mainly due to weight but the lyriks are great forks.
    4. wheels Superstar AM rims evo switch hub £114 Would buy again.
    5. 1×10 SLX clutch mech 11-36 on back and 34t raceface thick thin on from £200ish
    6. Offset bushing £40ish
    7. Brakes what ever take your fancy, I have Avid elixirs, hated by most loved buy me. I got mine off here for £50.

    Try any removed:
    1. Coil shock: not worth extra weight
    2. 2×9 set up, kept dropping my chain when racing even with a roller.

I think these rowanish trails have the advantage of being very hardwearing, big berms and boardwalk, stand up well to heavy use throughout the year, resist braking bumps etc

Like the ones at swinley 😉

scottfitz: Is there a Pearce Enduro this year? nothing on their events list on the web site? I enjoyed it last time too…
Yep it was on there facebook page,23rd march, at hopton again, 4 timed runs on 3 stages (One done twice)

At last years FoD Enduro 1 there was lots of ‘Kashima coated, 6 inch travel, XTR equipped 4k+ builds’ Going on.

It was the best Enduro 1 round I did last year. You will be racing blind so try and keep you flow and the silly mistakes to a minimum.
Best to carry some quick fix bits like quick links etc… you can make up a bit of time on the transitions if you have a mechanical but going back to the car is race over.

Good luck have fun but at 47.50 and the same weekend as the Pearce Enduro* that me out this year.

*Pearce Cycles Enduro at Hopton was great when they ran it in 2012. Great trails and very smoothly run.

Red trail is muddy on the flat bits. Standard winter QECP winter conditions every where else.
    No flooding
    No trees down

Why the need for a clutch rear derailleur?

to give the chain permanent tension so it doesn’t fall off

Lots of trail in that part of the world are getting Rowaned. Not that its a bad thing but its always good to mix it up with the natural stuff too. Looking forward to giving the new Penhydd trail ago and the new stuff at cwncarn.

Slightly off topic but I didn’t realise they had named sections at QECP which is the bit you are referring to?

    Trail sections named here

The name of the event/race isn’t important. Putting on a bike race on good trail, friendly atmosphere and fun for all involved. Quick accurate results help too 🙂
