It would be a good idea to fence off the Freeride area to avoid walkers wondering in there by mistake. Also would help difine it as an advance riders area and stop people skiping the qualifing features.

I guess tunnel hill is busy with training because of all the forestry work at caesar’s camp

Yes, BC can’t be used for enduro events. Be interesting to find out why they had issues with insurance. All the other organiser seen to be ok (without BC)

Would put me off future events for sure.

Not cool! So did they cancel due to low entries or because they couldn’t source insurance for the event?

If you are looking for venues, when I used to live in the area (90s) there was a SAMS xc and dh race near East Meon. We used to ride there a fair bit and i remember good trails – might be an option? Cant even really remember where it was somewhere along the winchester road
Yes I know the place. I already have some chalk based venues. I’m an looking at venues that are free draining greensands (Like milland 😀 ) always happy to look at options.

Milland is on Greensand – so I think should drain well.

This. Like Rogate if you have ridden there.

whats with cutting all teh narrow ledges? is off-camber banned now?

That’s just the top of one of the tracks (Stage 1) Its very steep and if you want to go across the hill it needs cutting in.

    They are different formats.

WGES is a mash up format. Ride the stages as may times as you can to get you best time. Mostly trail centre type trails.

WES is a more traditional one day enduro format. Mix of different trail types. Morning practice afternoon race.

90% will be Surrey Hills (on my doorstep). I am 27.5 curious. The hardtail is a 29er so I fancy something different.
So you have a short travel HT too. Get the big bike you will love it and long distance/XC ride just take the HT.

The complication factor, as always, is the liability issue when someone gets hurt. Anyone taking it on is going to need very good (expensive) public liability insurance. LCC, being a local authority have that in spades – any organisation that tries to step in is going to find that a very important issue to deal with.

Public liability insurance and site management sorted, one large event and a couple of small ones should cover the costs.

they are shutting down all public access to the area

Are the FC allowed to do that?

Anyway hope this gets resolve and the culprits get caught.

yep. it’s irrelevant. my point is that blaming one group of people for something without any reasonable suspicion is just as bad as blaming another. like the FC blaming bikers?

Cowdray (huge landowners in Midhurst/Liphook area)

Cowdray was contacted with no response. They do have motorbike enduro’s on there land (Fernhursts side) and a large disused quarry on the Chichester side of Midhurst.

The only major issue, typically this time of year, are the leaves. They’re covering the trails so it’s kinda hard to plot your route through.

In Decembers dig day we will leaf blow all* the MTB trail as we do every year after all leaves are down 8) 8)

    *official trails only 😉

Swinley is dull. Is QECP not within driving distance? More worth a visit.

lol, first time I have heard QECP over Swinley.

QECP, is hillier, very slippy with lots of roots(Red trail),

Blue trail is more all weather: https://vimeo.com/135917380

I’d go the peak district. straight up the M1
I’m likely to be riding by myself and just want to ride following signs, not getting lost, doing about turns etc…

Cannock is better than Swinely imo

they gave it a shot but they don’t have anything like the trails for it so it ended up mostly on sheep track and crap trail centre. (and some very, very nice offpiste- just not enough).

Northwind Sounds like a good base to improve on for year 2?

Its just silly that 2 large series are clashing with so many rounds (Including the champs), did the Cannondale BES contact anyone before working out their dates? On top of the name clash this is not looking good!

People always talk about how professionally run the BDS is, so far the BES is not living up to the same standard!

On another issue – are southern xc thinking of a round at QECP next year?

No parking was a issue for the number of riders they had. I have tried to get a surrounding field for both the QECP enduro and southern XC but not had any luck.
I did mention Staunton Country Park but it was a bit late for next year.

Oh, I thought the 4hr endur(ance)o from a couple of years ago was great. Loads of racers/riders, half at night, really hilly, good boozy support/heckling in the arena – bang-on

    The 4hr endur(ance)o didn’t got over 100 entries.
The last QECP Day & Night enduro sold out in under 24 hours (180 entries)

The 4hr endur(ance)o is actually easier and cheaper to organise but much harder to sell.

I think a green nice simple track with the very minimum of ascents would be a real bonus for the place – the tricky bit is that QE is one great big lump and designing a route with no stiff uphills and mostly flat is tough to achieve.

I think a green trail would be better placed at Staunton Country Park (QECP’s sister Park) they have a lot better gradient for a green/blue starter trail then people could progress to QECP when ready.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMTECH-2PC-DIGGING-HOE-COMPLETE-47-LONG-HANDLE-IDEAL-FOR-ALL-BUILDING-WORK-/261261395611?hash=item3cd464869b

Here are 2 digging hoes for £36 with postage. I find them much more efficient than mattocks.

What soil type do you have? this makes a big different.

Soft soil types Digging hoes are king, good for raking soil around too.
Hard or super rooty mattocks are better, but not good for raking.

Edit: I have tried a Macleods style tool to and wouldn’t buy one, based on price, weight and performance.
