Definitely give some of the PMBA events a whirl, they are great. Gisburn worth a try for sure, assuming they can actually go ahead next year! 🙁

I’m almost certain all the FC venues will be back for 2022.

Flat Milland ? Did I race somewhere else last week?

To be fair Milland has had a lot of work over the past couple of years to improve flow and remove or reduce pedally sections.

If you can be arsed to travel quite a long way you have the Southern Enduro series. This is set up to fill the gap between national event level and entry level and does it very well. I appreciate the distance is an issue so maybe if you drop Scott at Southern Enduro an email he might be able to guide you towards equivalent level events oop North, he is a decent chap I am sure he wouldn’t mind.

I’m Scott ;) I would say the one day PMBA races are a great place to start in the North west of England.

Anyone in Southern England then one day Southern enduro races are a good place to start ;)

@orena45 your start time is 10.15 ish

I’m not bothered about doing it this year, will just get my entry transferred over to 2021.

That’s a good point, if your not ready to race most organiser are happy to roll your entries over to 2021.

    @orena45

Being a master you won’t be starting until at least 11.00 so you won’t need to get their first thing. We are recommending people arrive 30mins before their start time.

No camping on friday night at the venue.

Enduro racing is back, we have worked long and hard to make this happen.

First one back in the uk and we have change the format around a bit, see details here:

Tunbridge wells is just up the road (20mins) from the Southern Enduro at Pippingford park in Oct. That one is a good one to start on before bigger ones in 2021

To start with where are you based? Start local there are loads of good regional series, then move on to the national series (BNES) also have camping and are professional run.

So if your event isn’t yet insured, you’re going to struggle to get it insured for the forseeable.

I renewed Southern Enduro’s event insurance yesterday (Including cancellation policy).

    Go the whole hog? http://www.changeinbag.co.uk/

I think for mountain bikers getting changed in public carpacks change in a bag is a better option.

but the swim feral looks a good option for surfers/beach types.

This is how the EWS plans to keep it “fair” no idea how these black boxes work but sound like a good idea.

Riders are not allowed to carry spare batteries on their person (they can carry them on their bike) .
Equipment marking stickers will be issued for the batteries (in addition to the regular bike marking
    stickers Chapter 0.6.2).
Racers will need to have a Black Box kit attached to their motors. The kit will be supplied by the EWS-E.
There will be no technical restrictions on batteries etc as we believe technology needs maximum
opportunity to innovate and grow and it’s already moving at a very fast rate.
All bikes must be limited to EU regulations for e-bike/pedelec (25kmph).
Walk function allowed but only in factory settings.

This was the red trail Launch vid 7 years ago (We were so proud) and for some reason I’m riding a singlespeed, note the legs at 3:30 haha.

@bartimaeus am I wearing your helmet and riding your bike in that test vid?

I forgot the steps originally went straight into a berm. Ironic as we are putting them back the way it was originally built.

Are you guys still proceeding with work to the Red, and the new pump track etc? Or are you understandably throwing the towel in?

The collective isn’t going anywhere and all planned projects won’t be affected but long term I can see myself spending hours/days/weeks progressing the future of QECP. I still can belive what we have achived and I will still be about but not super active.

All I can say is ‘thank you’ to @scottfitz

    Now worries dude.

@scottfitz how much of the stuff in the video is now still relevant since the Head down incident?

Which Vid? IMO what happend at headdown didn’t affect the race as we were planing to use different/new/old classics anyway to mix it up a bit.

No way just found a testing vid of when we first bit the final berms on the red trail. (Second half). https://www.pinkbike.com/video/243964/

To answer the original question you could try Staughton, just north of Chichester. Not as good though, but OK.

https://www.pinkbike.com/video/238772/ good memories from riding at Stoughton. I hardly ever ride their anymore, it was every week at one point.

Do what I do-park at the Red Lion in Chalton, ride over to the park (a mile or so) and then spend your ‘parking’ money on a pint when you’re done. Win-win!

Good suggestion, the hampshire hog works well for that too.

For those that don’t know me I’m Scott, I run Southern Enduro and a founding member of the QECP Trail Collective.

I will gve you as many fact as I can about the situation:
They had an incident in the Spring and Instead of engaging the QECP Trail Collective and working on a viable solution they went behind our backs.

This will not affect any of the southern enduro races at the park. We will continue to hire the land and we appreciate the support for the mountain biking community.

To this date HCC or the FC have given £0 to the building and maintenance of the Blue and red trail. All the money was public donations and money rased from the races. I start the collective 10 years ago with Spencer Huckstepp, with the help of lots of volunteers over the years we have accomplished more that we ever thought was possible, But this is a big step backwards (mainly in communication).

Bit of background on the official line on access and ownership:
Headdown like the main Park is owned by the Forestry Commission and run/managed by HCC.

The park management has an agreement with Buriton Parish Council to restricted the use of Headdown to 8 events per year. 2 of which can be MTB relating.
The QECP Trail Collective help negotiate this, there was a stage HCC with pressure from local residents were going to close Headdown to the public bar the Footpath of course.

Recreational access to the Headdown fireroad network is to be maintained year round (Forestry Commission Rule). 90% of the trails in Headdown were built and maintained for the enduro races.

Long on short of it is let this all blown over and carry on but a little more discretely/less features.

Gabriel Cycles in Widley (just over the top of the hill from Cosham) they are mtb and e-mtb based but also do a range of other stuff, they are prob your best bet

    this!

Gabriel Cycles are pretty decent. Small shop, lots of stock and always helpful when I’ve popped in on the off chance of needing something.

    and this.

And £10/month, however much you moan about it being a £120 annual subscription, I can point to Gyms* near Swinley with higher monthly membership fees than that annual fee!

Gym is open 24hours a day. I assume this will be weekends only? or 9 till 5 etc..

That’s a shame, I ride Swinley maybe once every 2-3 months so its not worth me signing up for even the cheapest membership

Was hoping it would be similar to how B1ke park run their membership scheme for Rogate/Tidworth/Windhill

I’ve no interest in coaching as I’m pretty confident on the bike and can ride most of the drops and jumps at BPW and I’m a bmx’er so my bike handling skills are pretty good

Maybe they will change to a free membership and then pay to ride session in the future

same for me but great facilities for locals.

Hopefully more races in the UK adopt the new EWS event grading system. I really like it: http://southernenduro.co.uk/how-does-the-event-grading-work/

We’d likely go QECP as he knows a few of the tracks… When are they on sale ? Can i ride ahead/behind ? Not together as such required, but rider ahead or behind him would be good.

2 mouths before each race for the 3 races at QECP.
or you can buy a full series ticket on 1st Dec.
If you go to http://www.southernenduro.co.uk (Home page) we have add event grading as per the new EWS grading system.

I’m not really a racer type but like to do a couple each year, preferably in locations and on trails that aren’t available to ride outside the event. Southern Enduro’s at Milland is a great example.

We love Milland, its been a pleasure to build that venue from scratch.

ive been looking at this too, but it seems the South East is rubbish for any kind of events that aren’t road (plenty of those).. My 10 year old daughter and probably more 7 year old son as well, are getting more and more into riding and want to try an event.. Is there a central place that lists, or are we still looking at a dozen different websites – is there anything that STW can do to have an area that joins them up??

Pippingford is a good race for Juniors to start with.

Talking about 2020 Enduro in the 2019 thread, controversial.

The full list of 2020 BNES will be out in a couple of weeks with some new organisers and venues. The plan is to keep rotating around organisers or venues when possible to keep the Series fresh each year.
Southen Enduro will be hosting a round this year, we had to move some stuff around to avoid a EWS clash.
