I spoke to my wife and said I really wanted to watch this.

So she surprised me with a rental; but she mis-remembered the name…

I still enjoyed it, but it’s not quite what I had in mind

For everything that’s wrong with Haslingden look right here for a good example.

    https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/16312510.yobs-damage-bus-and-jump-on-cars-in-haslingden-after-england-world-cup-victory/

The centre of Haslingden is rough as a badger’s in the evening. Lot’s of scrotes and JustEat drivers make it a wild west town. No noticable Police prescence even when it’s really kicking off.

Plenty of nicer places away from the centre and the trails and moorland are great.

Aside from products such as pasta which are in a bag to contain them, does food/other products arrive, unwrapped, at the packaging facilities?

No. Generally fresh produce is cut/picked and wrapped at the same time. I was on a field in the fens the other week and the time from cutting to packing was seconds. Not hours or days. Farmers use kit that they can drive onto a field and pack in the wilds. Other foods are made and packed in one unit; because it’s efficient, and gives better life on the shelves

Presumably there’s a cost to packaging so, from a commercial perspective, the food store could save money by not packaging in plastic?

No, the cost of packaging is far outweighed by the increase in shelf-life meaning less food waste. Silly things like Easter eggs are far, far worse, but because they don’t get all the Oh Dearists frothing, no-one notices. There’s more pack than chocolate, but it’s a treat, innit?

It’s possible to make a pack that is sustainable, or compostable, or recyclable, but it costs more (comsumers won’t pay extra for that) and because most can’t be arsed reading the small print on the back of pack it gets slung in landfill anyway. All the fuss on Sky tv and in the papers about plastic in the seas is due to poor disposal of waste. If plastic sunk, no one would notice, like all the other crap that ends up in the ocean. But it’s obvious, so it’s easy to make a campaign on the back of it. If it was captured and recycled effectively it could be so much better.

before I take my argument to the store manager and leave the excess plastic at their customer services desk, I need to get my facts straight:

You’ve demonstrated that you don’t know a lot, but are still prepared to make a scene in store without knowing the full picture. It’s every customers right to make a tit of themselves at Customer Services;(you might get a voucher!), but it might be a better idea to get clued up on the full facts of food production and distribution.

Mig 31 in the book, wasn’t it

The later editions. When it first came out the MIG 25 ‘Foxbat’ was the mystery fighter from the USSR.

When one actually turned up, they needed a new ‘unicorn’ to be frightened of. Hence MIG 31 and Firefox

which could easily be proven either way with the 12 year old bride allegation

Diver bloke moved to Thailand to be with his Thai bride who he met in the UK

    Who’s 40.

Specific allegations are just as spurious as vague allegations. Pity Teslabloke couldn’t be arsed fact checking before flinging poop about.

    What a despicable man.

I hope there’s no picture of her shakng hands with Prince Charles coming.

She was never on my radar until she got ill, but having a young son and dealing with an illness like that must be gruesome.

The problem with politics at the moment is the lack of credible alternatives.

USA had the choice of Trump or Hilary. I bet there was some hesitation and last minute dickering at those equally hideous choices. In fact, some mates in the US say that they didn’t have anyone they could vote for and either didn’t, or won’t admit which way they jumped.

In this country you have May in the hotseat and an opposition who can’t show people they would be better. Labour should be smashing the Tories to bits and they aren’t.

Corbyn can’t help make a tit of himself, and that’s when his supporters rally round. Not realising that, at some point, a reset will be required. An apology. A difference. Not carry on in the same vein.

My car is not a company car in that I do not need it for any aspect of my job

Well, is it a company car, or not? If it is a company car and you pay something towards it is one tax implication.

If it is your car that work are paying for to diddle the taxman is another. (I’d be very surprised if it was)

Who’s name is on the V5? Is it lease, loan or Ling?

You seem to have dismissed the “fix it” option?

That would be the best bet if the rest of the car stacks up. Any change of engine would set alarm bells rinigng with most people.

Gasket and skim and away you go.

Ok, Perchypanther’s comparison is closer – except the PHEV one is petrol, no? But if his new diesel does 70mpg then ScottChegg clearly isn’t comparing like with like.

WTF has like with like got to do with anything? Drac’s assertion was that Hybrids are the best deal for long journeys. My experience says cobblers. And, of course it’s petrol; isn’t that the point?

All the furious backpeddling that “Outlanders are crap, I meant the Golf” and “It’s a brick aerodynamically” shows how weak the initial point was.Not all hybrids are the same. Just like all diesels aren’t the same, pollution-wise.

A Tiguan diesel will do 60mpg+ wihout much fuss with similar frontal area. It’s not carrying a half ton battery, though.

    ScottChegg
    Free Member

Oh, hang on; when you said ‘hybrid’ you meant a particular make and model?

That’s the trouble with sweeping generalisations; most of the time they are wrong.

    ScottChegg

Tell them to stick it and start a new contract with a less hostile supplier. Include the insult so they know you are not a happy camper

    ScottChegg
    Free Member

Errrr! Yeah but it still uses both to return mpg while emmiting less pollution.

    Nope.

My Outlander did 35mpg and got about 270miles on a full charge and full tank on a run. It would be worse if you kept the battery with some charge.

The diesel that replaced it does 70mpg and about 800miles on a tank. Current hybrids are a tax fiddle that fool a weak test. The more fuel you burn, the more you pollute overall.

Electric for a short journey. Diesel for a long one, until a hydrogen fuel cell car comes along.

He is a prize cock. When it was pointed out that calling someone a ‘pedo’ was a little inflammatory if untrue, he insisted it was and would bet ‘a signed dollar’ that it was.

He later deleted it all, no doubt after legal advice, but the genie is out of the bottle.

It’s reasonable to assume the diver guy does not have these proclivities, so his extended holiday in Thailand just got a big new sponsor.

That’s £30 you will never have spare and will need to carry over to next month.

Next month? It literally might never happen!

P-Jay has it dead right, it’s the first step on a spiral of debt that will just keep on getting worse.

Anyone who thinks it’s a good idea, however desparate their circumstances, should never have control of their own finances. It’s self descructive.

It coul d be a company or lease car. All incidents would go through insurance to prevent costs down the line.

My Co. would pay any excess I happened to incur, but with an uninsured 3rd Party they would consider getting the excess back as a win.

    ScottChegg
    Free Member

Have you ever dealt with any? Doesn’t sound like it

Then you would be dead wrong.

One of my previous houses was a repo; I had quite a few knocks on the door from blokes in cheap white shirts with thick necks and heads of solid bone. They wave an ID at you and then expect you should beg them to come in.

Asking for Mr XXXX, when you say he ‘doesn’t live here anymore’  they go on to  ‘where is he now’, ‘can we come in and have a look?’

The answers are always “how should I know” and “of course you bloody can’t”. They ask you to prove who you are and at that point you tell them to eff off. (After looking in the hall mirror and confirming it’s you to furrowed brows)

They had my wife at the edge of calling the police as they would not leave the doorstep.

The assumption that you are lying to them is wearing. When they come round a week later and do it all again is irritating. The bullying tactics are outside of civilized and the threat that they may just come back when you are out and check all the doors and windows with a view to a bit of light trespass is intimidating

You can report them to their paymasters; they generally don’t care and will take the opportunity ask you to make a payment to ‘make it go away’

    Scum. Stop apologising for them

have always been very grateful that I rang and given them any useful info.

And stop doing their work for them. You make it worth trying these tactics

    ScottChegg

…and we’re just helping point them in the direction of where to find the people who had.

Which is kind of what I said. They have the facilities to dig a lot deeper than you, but can’t be bothered. Whereas you will to stop them bothering you any more.

Watching that pantomime yesterday was a lesson in petulance and stroppiness that would get a 6 year old a telling off.

The fat lady in the pink jacket waving at Bercow as she left showed how clever they thought they were being. And the after party when they were being interviewed and all nodding like dogs in the back window of a car was cringeworthy.

All MP’s are poor excuses for human beings; the SNP are currently the worst of a bad pile.

It surely shows a high degree of incompetence and would warrant a complaint?

Yep. Investigating plod has fobbed the guy off and he’s took it. He should be pushingback and saying that the reponse is not good enough and it needs to be escalated.

As it is, lazy plod gets the issue off his desk and he goes back to playing solitaire on his laptop, instead of going and giving a dangerous motorist a lesson in how to pass considerately.

It’s a bit like the guidelines for Racism; if you think you have been on the receiving end of it; you probably have.

If you think you have been intimidated by a motorist, it’s likely true; never mind the 1.5m and kinetic energy bollox above

I was given one as a company car. It’s horrid. The interior is made from the naffest of plastics. The seats are covered with what looks like a leather donkey jacket. The drivers seat does not adjust as upright as I like it so it feels like i need a pillow to drive. You have to service it every 8,000 miles and at best you will get 270 miles from a full tank. I’ve had to fill it up 4 times in one day.

None of the gizmos fitted work properly. The bluetooth is hopeless. The boot takes 15minutes to open and it is hideously small as the battery lurks under there. My kids has dismantled the interior by just being in there. I have a carrier bag of random trim bits that have fallen off. The noise it makes going up a hill is embarassing. The battery range is woeful

The company car tax on it has just gone up by 60%

    And it goes ‘bong’

Sky Q kit is only on loan from Sky.

Those on sale on eBay are breaking the rules. If they have been used before there is a risk that Sky can detect the box by it’s serial number and shut it down.

    So the rumour goes anyway….

Anything that will be a financial drain for longer than a couple of months will be taken into account and deducted from your disposable salary.

Several hundred pounds a month off your income will be sizable chunk in a year. If you are close to the edge of ‘affordability’ it will be a big risk.

Buy the banger; you can sign up to the lifestyle vehicle afterwards if you still think it important
