Yes, it’s quite an experience, convinced me to give up resorts and lifts!
Not much else to say, if you are into BC and adventure then go for it but you don’t need to go to La Grave to get the same extreme experience!

Don’t bother with the 4 1/2″ just go for the 5″ they have the same 22.2 centre mount, only difference is the guard.

The redundancy announcements are pretty unbelievable, stuff like Technip paying off 10.000, Subsea 7 reducing workforce by 6000, Saipem introducing cost cutting measures of $916.000.000 over the next two years, it’s not been this bad for a while!

Offshore oil and gas sub-sea construction, enjoy it, meh sometimes, $40 a barrel has killed it for now and the foreseeable, could be jotters after this project comes to an end.

My Mrs has one from new MK2 version, it’s on 100000 miles, in that time the only major thing it has needed is an EGR valve, goes through tyres if driven spiritedly. I have told her to get rid but she says she loves it, for a big lump of a motor it does shift compared to X5/Q7 loads of torque, the only time I use it is when towing 3500kg trailer and it does it with ease.

Mine regularly has 2 downhill bikes and 2 hard tails, the clamps are shite, fine on round tubes or if you can position the bikes to clamp seat tubes/post but that’s to much phaff for me so I modified mine, I replaced the 3 fixed clamps with Thule style from a euro rack, the wide ones that are designed for irregular/hydroformed/oversized tubes, only problem I had was the threaded rods are not long enough to take the Thule clamps so I got a mate to machine up stainless threaded rods to suit.
Other mod was the wheel straps, got so used to using the thule ratchet type I replaced the crappy nylon straps with the thule type, so much easier with 4 bikes on.
Another tip is if you turn the bars parallel to the frame on the first 2 bikes you can still have the roof up whilst the tailgate is open, although not with double crown boxxers fox40’s etc, single crown fork is fine on my van but it’s close so check.
I learnt the hard way, didn’t have downhill bikes on but a bike with a lefty and forgot to make sure bike was on the correct way round, arrived on site opened tailgate raised roof, expensive!

I tried drivethedeal when purchasing my SE and when it came down to committing to the contract they couldn’t deliver, apparently it’s due to build dates and limited build runs on the production line I was told by VW in Edingburgh.
So I ended up dealing with Edingburgh Van Centre, Dave Millar is the man to speak with, very clued up on all things California. The deal I got from him on a 180 BiTDI DSG 4 Motion ended up better than drive the deal anyway.
Did you go into Aberdeen Van Centre? I was told they stopped dealing Cali’s as the commitment required on after sales, demo vehicles and warranty was to much for them so stopped it.
I am out by Alford if you want to have look round and pick my brains about them.

I have a mate that comes with us on his split board when we go for a bit of touring/skinning, seems a bit of a faff compared with a Dynafit ski touring set up, gets him to where we go though, he says the board is pretty useless in the sastrugi or hard packed choppy crud, but good when you get to the powder.
Does the job and gets you away from the crowds that pack Cairngorm, Nevis, Glenshee on a good day.

Vango Airbeam Sapera for our T5, 10 mins to put up 5 mins to take down, seems really well made, have used it half a dozen times in all weathers, gale force winds up at Glenmore still standing and intact in the morning where others were wrecked, comes with storm straps and various ways of attaching to the van, also has straps for securing when the van is not attached so can be used as a standalone and has a separate inner attachable bedroom/storage area. It also only has 3 guy ropes either side so minimal faff when erecting.

If the weather is forecast to be over lay limits they will attach an abandonment head and lay the pipeline on seabed till weather improves once weather is better they will pick it back up and continue the lay process.
Not sure about the big screw actuators I presume they are something to do with raising and lowering the stinger, the big long bit that hangs off the aft of the vessel where the pipe sits before it enters the water.

To use an example of pessimistic estimates on single field revenues and how far off they can be you have to look at Ekofisk, being one of the first oil producing fields in the NS in 1971 it had pretty much dried up in the 90’s with decommissioning being predicted mid 2000. But now they are saying with the investment the Ekofisk complex has seen in the last few years production continuing to at least 2050 and that being a conservative estimate with possibility of production hitting 100 years.
So that’s one field, how wrong could they be on the other 300 odd producing installations?

Spend around six months of the year in Norway and been around a bit Kristiansand Hammerfest and nearly everywhere in between, not so much in Trondheim though, have been to Vassfjellet a couple of times, ski area about 20 mins away, not a large area but usually plenty of snow, good thing about it is back/slack country is very accessible and good like most of the back country in Norway is, so if you ski/board get some AT kit.
Like already said, everything is expensive!
If you were going to Oslo Bergen Stavanger I could have been of more use.

I have a 340e husky for sale if you want it, 6 years old good condition with the usual markings of a fairly well used saw, will come with 18″ and 15″ bars both good condition, and probably 4 or 5 chains which I will sharpen, has not been used for over a year as I have upgraded to a XP saw.

    150 quid plus postage.

What with accuracy of seismic surveys, directional drilling, geology, MWD, LWD, as mentioned above they pretty much know exactly when they are about to hit the formation, they will even drill around a certain formation to get to what they want, it’s all very scientific these days, well North Sea drilling anyway, it’s still very much ” we gota gusher” with the land based stuff in the states.

Google search for BARF raw diets for dogs, our hounds are on a semi BARF diet and they love it, they get duck and chicken carcasses and it keeps them entertained in the garden for an hour at a time.
