I’m keen to know who you work for seadog101, I work offshore for a large ship owning / management / subsea company that has PSV, AHTS, PLSV ROVSV and CSV’s.

Just asked the master if it had been on the cards for us and he says it has been doing the rounds.

I was the same re Elon Musk, i’d rather not give that knobber a penny of my money, however being in the same situation as you in a rural farm and with fibre infrstructure happening god knows when, I took the plunge with Starlink, I look at it as a stop gap until the SNP fulfill their promise of giving every house hold in Scotland a fibre connection by 2022🙄. Starlink has been great, consistantly see speeds over 250mb.

Yes, my son was a student in France for 4 years, 3 years post Brexit, a right PITA, online application on the French Gov website, choose interview time (Edinburgh agent for us) required French health insurance which was expensive, proof of financial security, lots of paper work and hoops to jump through.

The wife picked up her Ioniq 6 Ultimate a couple of weeks ago from a dealer in Birmingham, full charge at 13 degrees showed 338 miles range, one stop at the new Ionity HC chargers in Carlisle for a top up to 87% in 23 minutes showed 289 miles of range at 7 degrees, charger pushing peak power was 228kw, I was quite impressed, then made it all the way home to Tullynessle in Aberdeenshire, really nice drive and I like the interior apart from some cheap plastic kicking around, and goes pretty well after years of German and Swedish estates.

“So what? Either shave your legs and clip in or crack on. No one cares what your pedals look like”

He’s only 14 so not much hair on the legs to shave.

I did look at hybrid pedals but the bike came with a nice set of Look pedals (don’t know which model) so that would have been the progression, shoes and cleats to fit the Look.
I’ll just have to convince him that the V12 look fine and the quicker he gets used to the bike the quicker he can get clipped in.

I worked in Rio for two years (over the bridge in Niteroi) about 8 years ago now and it was not somewhere I would have taken scotswoman.
Copacabana was a cesspit of hookers, drug dealers, drug dealing hookers! and tat sellers all the time although much worse at night. However I have been told it has been cleaned up a bit.
Two streets back from the beach you are in some of the favelas.
When we went out at the weekend we would go to the nice residential areas of Ipanema and Leblon Rio side and Sao Francisco on the Niteroi side where there was a good selection of bars and restaurants, excellent Churrascarias everywhere.
Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf and other sites nice to see but only because my company was funding it.
Going to the Maracanã to watch Fluminense or Flamengo was always an event as their fans are nut jobs! And we got a few Brazil games, Brazil vs Argentina and Brazil vs Colombia were particularly intense evenings!

Totally fine, although you should plug the old holes or put in inserts, Quiver Killers or Binding Freedom giving you the option to put either binding on easily, I have one set of skis that have been drilled three times (wouldn’t go any more) for different bindings, all have Quiver Killers in them. I have three sets of skis and two sets of bindings and all combinations are covered, it gets expensive though with the price of inserts so it’d good if you can do it yourself.

Yip I do, ruptured 2012, not had time to have it done yet, I use a Ossur off the shelf ACL specific brace, first season back it took a few days for the confidence to build up, it wasn’t comfortable to start with but I self modified it to make it comfortable, I was going to upgrade to a custom one but I don’t notice I have it on now apart from it is a bit bulky compared to the custom one, if it makes any difference I only really tour and skin into the back country these days with the odd day of uplift with the family / friends, I think I have sort of decided not to bother having a graft done now as I can ski no problem without the ACL which I thought I wouldn’t be able to.

Try and avoid LGW 777’s as the economy on those has been densified, gone 3-3-3 to 3-4-3, pretty unbearable I am lead to believe, I think LHR 777’s are going the same way.

787’s are bad in economy as well, very narrow seating, best be avoided if possible, 380 or 747 in BA economy is best. Refurbished 747’s known as 86J or super high J as BA call it have been updated with the new IFE but you would have to do a dummy booking to see which aircraft you will get but that can change at any time.

Economy basic ticket is hand baggage only but you will be fed and watered, BA economy food offering going west has been greatly improved in the last year or so.

AA economy is to be avoided in my opinion unless something has changed drastically in the last two years.

Those Salomon X-Alp are basically the same as Arcteryx Procline (same company) so should be good for the tourers amongst us, only heard good things about Procline from last year, even on the downs which wasnt supposed to be their forte.
The new Scott S1 looks interesting.

Not sure, trains are good so as long as you don’t have to wait too long for the bus at Elverum it should be a bit quicker than bus all the way, the bus does stop a couple of times on route. Train is really easy from Gardemoen.

    3hr 51 on the bus
3hr 28 train and bus according Google.

bus station hot dogs are cheap though

Polse or bacon polse staple diet of your average Norwegian!

I go to Trysil every other year, been about 5 times but only because I work in Norway, I wouldn’t call it a resort, The Radisson is probably why they get away with calling it a resort. it is very nice though, and is ski out / in, but again like everything else in Norway it is very expensive.
Weather can be very hit or miss more miss for me when I go in either Feb or March, weather is a bit like Scottish resorts, can be very windy etc and changes really quickly.
Best way to get there is hire a car, I have never used the bus from Gardemoen but have heard it can be unreliable and it takes about 3 hours. You can get the train from Gardemoen to Elverum then get the bus from there which is about an hour away from Trysil.
There is nothing in Trysil apart from ski hire a cafe a overpriced pizza place and a shop so a car is nice to get to the main town which is 10 mins away.

Can anyone recommend a good tonic? Had a look for Fentimans but can’t find anywhere near me that stocks it.

Fever Tree, pretty much all supermarkets stock it these days.

I ditched the Dynafit binding last year and went with Marker kingpins for a change and put quiver killers in three sets of skis to suit the kingpins, the kingpins were the first DIN certified pin tech type binding to have an alpine binding style release. They are a little heavier than a touring Dynafit but offer the same benefits with added safety. Also if you go on holiday you can take 2 sets of skis with you in a single ski bag as you only have one set of bindings, back-country and a piste ski.

Ski length is the usual what you are comfortable with, going on the type of touring you describe as long as you don’t have a set of old school skinny skis you would be fine with those, maybe a little wider under foot, 80mm – 95mm maybe, but if you are going in search of the steepest deepest powder you will want long and wide 110mm+ with heavy rocker.

Dynafit for pin tech are the go to for touring stuff but there are others, Marker, G3, Plum, I am not a fan of the frame type AT binding, pin tech are much more comfortable, lower to the ski for more natural movement. I have had all makes of boot over the years Scott/Garmont, Scarpa, BD etc and I now only use Dynafit but with the popularity of touring and back-country all the major manufactures do some form of touring kit.
You could put a touring binding onto the skis you have using Quiver Killers and a generic cut to shape set of skins like Colltex.

Have a look here under Touring Ski http://www.glisshop.co.uk

What do you want from your touring, there is so much different kit these days. Do you want lightweight for long tours which will be compromised on the downs, depending on the type of skier you are. Or will your touring be a quick skin up to get to something steep in which case you could go for a burlier more down hill orientated set up using the alpine boots you already have with the appropriate frame type AT binding.

We are on our second California, the one we have at the moment is a T5.1 180 DSG 4motion. The wife’s sister also had one, same model with a few more extras over ours, she paid £51,500 and she just sold it last week for £49,500 after 2 years and 20000 miles of trouble free camping, there is no way a similar professional conversion will have as little depreciation as that.
We looked at lots of different conversion companies before buying the California (hired two as well) and IMO the quality of materials used in conversions is just not up there with the Californias composite materials and storage solutions. the rock n roll beds that come in conversions are also crap compared to the VW version, and a manual roof, the hydraulic roof in the California is not to everyones liking but that’s what it comes with and is one of it’s main features and as its hydraulic you can put a rack on the roof and carry 50kg and also raise and lower it with the 50 KG on it. Try doing that with your £3000 badly fitted pop top.
Take a look at the Danbury website and look at what you get for £47000 based on a 140 tdi, Formica clad MDF units, off the shelf components that you can purchase from any good conversion parts shop.

*Pedant mode* It’s not PAT testing though is it, surely it would be, PA testing? Or what is being said when you say PAT testing is, personal appliance testing testing.
This somewhat irks me as i hear it everyday other day!:D

Basically these home use ride on mowers are crap, if grass is reasonably long you have no chance of cutting and collecting unless you go at a snails pace, if it’s wet then don’t bother! You have to be cutting at least once a week so grass is short and you have a chance of collecting at the same time.
I had a home type small John Deere LTR 180 put up with it for a couple of years then gave up with it and purchased a commercial type with powered collector now I can cut long wet grass and collect no problem.

The Arcteryx Procline has been on the go for a while now, I keep checking on release date, not sure if we will see them in shops for 16/17 season, 15 degree lateral and 50 degree forward flex in walk mode sounds good when crampons are required.
Dynafit will probably beat them to it for this season with a lateral flex boot although no word of one yet.
