It was my first time doing dovetails.. i have a jig so it wasnt too tricky, but putting them together, wow… glad i have clamp-heads that i can bung onto any length of wood to use as my clamp.. i needed much longer fixed clamps than i have (i forget the word for this in english)..

No change of mind at all, the reasons I don’t think a gate will work is –

:The width of the gap, when opened it will block access to the rear garden

:The wall to the right is my neighbour’s house, the car port was built at the same time as the houses so there has not been a previous agreement to attach something to his house

:As has been mentioned before a gate that size will be expensive and whilst I value the life of my daughter highly I’d like to think there are more cost effective solutions

:The word temporary suggests (in my mind) something that’s not bolted/screwed/attached to either my or my neighbour’s houses.

    1. Can you not put a fence up, and a small gate? You never answer this suggestion…

    2. ok, but its easy to make a gate and fence without fixing to your neighbours house.. this has been explained several times – have you seen this? do you need hlp to understand how to do it?

    3. Not expensive. As mentioned above you want sth that is up to the job otherwise you and your wife will always be wondering if she has managed to get past it..

    4. Screws and bolts can be undone..?

you may need to be more precise in your questions..

btw i am not trying to be condescending in any way atall – i realise that in this world what to some may seem easy and quick to do to others seems way too much. so sorry in advance if you take it the wrong way..

@Rusty. I agree.. but here on STW the people know better dontcha know..

Well done to Andy for his achievements in his sport.

For those who whine on about mtb not winning – get real will you? The average man & woman in the UK has absolutley no idea that cycling exists as a sport more than their children having a go on a bike..

Its only when the likes of Hoy wins at the olympics or Wiggins the tour that he gets the coverage that enables them to win the spoty..

We all know this, so why whine?

Oh, and STW in general (and maybe UK in general) until you’ve met and actually discussed sth with someone (like andy murray for example) leave them alone with your stupid comments like ‘oh he’s a grumpy barsteward’ jees we’re not all made in the same way..

having worked for a v small company, then onto a larger one and back to a small – i have a little bit of experience. Both are very different, roles change and you can quickly become quite responsible in a small company – it takes slightly more time in the larger, obviously..

But both i really enjoyed, both let me be an engineer and grow and develop in the work.

currently in a small company as a ‘project engineer’ but doing everything from conception of ideas, CAO, client summaries presentation etc, lab work and tests etc.. all round really. And in French to boot too.. having the time of my life.

start in RR and see what happens.

For the pedants – sorry i miss all cap letters etc.. spelling might be off too.. sorry..

thanks for the replies.. im liking the ideas of warton and sui.. but these wireless speakers you talk of – have you a link? all i find are things that i dont think will do the job – seem to be only setup for the mp3 side of things and internet radio..

ideally we’d like sth that doesnt stream music..i like the idea of connectivity etc but some reason need to convinced..

i think kb is referring to the fact that if self employed then work is ‘more precious’ (not really but i can appreciate what is meant).. but seriously that is just rubbish and a poor sign of the times.

glad im no longer in the money grabbing culture of the uk..

not going to read all 5 pages, but jekkyl and pebblebeach… really? you’re kidding right?

business call…in sainsburys? cant it wait? if not dont shop yet. or if in the queue have the decency to leave for a moment.

have we forgotten politeness? Whats with this attitude of – they are paid to serve me so i am king and can do whatever i want? They are human beings you know?

im not saying that hi-viz is necessary but to go out all in black and just think that all car drivers “should” see you is daft.

is it really worth it? imagine being on the ground after being taken out and seeming confused..”but he/she should have seen me..”

dont forget that not all drivers are cyclists so dont look out atall for us (not excusing it..)

you can choose the roads all you like, but as soon as you have a car on that carefully selected road, you dont have the same control over your situation..

yeah sure the materials are fine, but what i was getting at is going by whats on here and in the news next week my wifes hairdresser will be designing herself a new set of cranks..

but of course i forgot stw is the cutting eng for mech eng design!

    scotia
    Free Member

No reason why you couldn’t make a set of cranks with them. Whether it would be cost effective to do so is a different matter

    or safe..

i dont understand why all of a sudden the uk is wetting its pants all of a sudden for 3-D printing?? Its not new!

i’m prob very biased now as i live in the french speaking part near to lausanne.. married a swiss girl..first child just turned 1..

if you want scenery its great, breathtaking at times..

this may sound weird looking at some of the opinions on here, but personally i havent met a swiss who wasnt warm and friendly, maybe thats just me..

anyways if you need some ideas let us know!
