Carbs comments above are a place to look – in addition some other thoughts

Is this issue occuring riding in the winter cool days – these carbs did suffer from icing issues and later models such as ZX1000b1 and 1000RX has carb heaters fitted which was a loop of warm water from the cooling system.  This would manifest itself in engine starting to run rougher after a number of miles and needing to use more throttle on accelerations and smelling of fuel when stopping.

Also pull out your plugs and see what mixture is like – if black and sooty check your air filter, air filters on these can look quite clean but still require changing – also check exhaust baffle is running clear – see you have an aftermarket on – this can screw up the mixture and make the bike run rich or lean.

I would also get the carb balance checked out with vacuum gauges – if they are out of sync it will still pull strong but wont be efficient

    hope that helps

Andy B , I skied my bandits for about 12 years and thought they were great, but skis have come on a long way.  Remember getting hire skis for a powder day and difference was huge.   The volk ac30 unlimited skis I have are absolute thugs of skis at speed and will demolish crud and are brilliant on the hard.   But in twistier and softer snow not so great .   Got a pair of atomic vantage 90 ti 184 in the spring snow at glen Coe and honestly felt I could ski anywhere in the soft.  Went down the flypaper for first time on them they were so great off the beaten track

Thanks all , very helpful.   So I think I’m down to choice of four, blizzard bonafide, volkl mantra, Nordica enforcer, atomic mavericks, all about 95 underfoot.

Riding wise on gravel lots of routes in Galloway forest park if you look at heat maps – good loop from mossdale along old railway track to loch grannoch I think, clatteringshaws then down the raiders road to otters pool and return.  Loads of good road riding round “the borgue” and up over to lauriston, loch ken, clatteringshaws, theres a big gravel loop at glen trool.  All scenic stuff, also isle of whithorn.   D&G has great road, gravel and MTB – the latter at kirroughtree is good with waymarked trails and hire bikes.   Galloway forest park has dark skies accreditaion as well if its clear.  I heard great pub food up at st johns, dalry.  Great coastal walks all round that area.  Bit of a drive but the Rhins of galloway down to the lighthouse is worth a trek is weather pants, logan botanic gardens good.  Castle Douglas good for cafes, good indian, balcary point good for a clifftop walk if windy, galloway outdoor centre on loch ken might be running some outdoor courses, sailing etc.

I had orange segment, then a stage 4 – I much preferred the stage 4 on the trails.  I then sold the stage 4 and bought a british (Scottish ) build Cotic Jeht frame –  with a hope and cane creek build.  I have to say I absolutely love it.  Although I liked both Oranges the long shot geometry and feel of the Jeht just feels much better and way more confidence inspiring on the steeps and just more enjoyable and natural to ride.

I persevered with NHS dentists and because of bad treatment and advice went with private with a friend two years ago and wish it had done it years ago.  Attention to detail, great treatment and i dont think the work he does is overly expensive.

Great response thanks- thats very re-assuring – I was getting a little concerned it was dropping into the 50s and you are correct if I had no fancy watch I wouldnt have noticed

Ton – sorry to hear that mate – hope your well otherwise – need to catch up sometime ling time no see.

To add:  biggest wake up call is the data the watch spits out after drinking – I have suspected for a long time as I aged that alcohol was starting to have a big impact on energy levels and general well being – what is alarming is how little of it that it takes to do so.  Which is a shame as I like my beer and  dram.  Beer in moderation isnt too bad – but a few drams and goodbye to a good sleep and energy the next day with substantial increase in rest HR.

As above Mabie open, I think that Ae red is open with diversions – a lot of the the off piste trails are blocked/ trashed and slowly being opened.

Have a pair of bib shorts and fits well – nicely cut – only critique is its very much a summer weight material – think it was the “jewels” model from memory

Another vote for SPDSL pedals – they work great and they spread the load to avoid numbness.  I did use MTB SPD pedals as I was already clipless on the mountain bike for a number of years and it works fine – also good if you are walking at all and using the road biking for fun, occasional use, commuting.  But for longer rides that dont involve walking at all the SPDSL would be a good choice.  Also dont go cheap on the shoes – decent soled comfy shoe – make sure they are wide enough – will pay dividends in the long run

Another vote for the stage 4 – had it for 18 months as replacement frame for the segment which cracked.  Great simple frame.  Just bought a Cotic Jeht – its the next level up and I love it but then the spec on it is twice the price.

Just had my solaris max frame XL built and it looks the badgers nadgers, cant wait to ride it – coincided with catching the lurgy so waiting for that to pass before taking it out.  Its a looong bike so at 6 2 it should suit you fine.

update – totally loving the Jeht – had to go for the gloss metal finish to get the scottish build frame in large, very likeable bike, feel like your in it rather than on it and handles and steers so well on any terrain I have the bottle for

sooooo after much research and narrowing down a mate sent me marketing link to new special edition Cotic Jeht frames made in scotland, draped in Hope – so upped the budget and placed an order for that – oops!!

If you like hardtails can I also recommend an Orange stage 4.  I have had FS on and off for 15 yrs and always ended up selling them, bought a four about 18 months ago and love it.  Not the plush ride of others, but gives loads of feedback and doesnt have that disconnected feel that a lot of full suss bikes have.  Also mate has the solaris and he bought a Cotic Rocket and buitl it up and loves it as well, as much as the solaris.
