Dudie – you are right that fuse may not blow, but he is not talking bollocks as you put it, a fuse will pass current a number of times higher than its nominal rating before it blows.

As said above 240V can and does kill, fact.

I have been told from a reliable source that 60V DC has the capacity to kill as well. Sparky pal of mine told me once that a 13A fuse by the time it blows could be passing 2 or 3 or 4 times that current, and you are fried by the time it does.

I also heard on a static electricity course that 1 joule of electricty in the wrong place on your heart can stop it, that is 1W for 1sec, which is a very small amount of electricity. Static from clothes for example is 1000's of V but very low current so its harmless. Static discharge from a large helicopter grounding however can kill you.

So dont be silly and get a sparky in :-)

those dunlops are pretty decent tyres.

Do be aware if you fit good new tyres just on the the front and keep worn, less grippy tyres on the rear you can have a tail happy front wheel drive car in the wet.

Quick Question… How can it all be blue if the last run back to the carpark is full of berms and doubles

they are tame ones, can all be rolled. Rest of the trail is blue IMO, its a nice ride, not knocking it but it is a decent blue ride.

Honest way = days holiday, or un paid leave, or do the interview in the evening, lunchtime, weekend etc.

Your work cannot prevent this, people go for interviews, people change jobs its a fact of life and recognised by employers.

Dishonest way = sickie, lying, etc.

    Your choice.

IPA is a better degreaser, it could be nothing to do with grease though, are the pads needing chnaged or does the caliper need adjusted?

Bad form not to return in the condition it was given, I lend my bikes out to mates if they are stuck but I am not to precious with them.

I rememeber when I left my filthy bike at a mates after it punctured and I didnt have a way of getting it home, he brought it to the next ride all clean and lubed! :-)

That is a crime, add a chicken run sure but to do that boggles he mind!!

Mind you on the plus side they can downgrade the trail to a blue and attract more families because the rest to the trail was no where near a red grading.

I had a 18" coiler, I am 6' with 34" inside leg and I thought it was a tad on the small side, I had the seat post all the way up.

Sorry if stating the obvious but there are plenty companies doing good half board deals at the moment. In Feb this year i went B&B just myself and mates and it cost a fortune eating out with the way the euro is. Taking the family on a cheap HB deal with Rocketski his year. Also worth checking out Alpine elements

OP any time folks on here ask which trails to ride in D&G it spawns a heated black and white debate about which is the best. They are all good rides & worth a visit IMO, spoilt for choice really. Drumlanrig roots will certainly be a challenge in this weather, Mabie & Ae are easy to visit on your journey North. Mabie has plenty to offer if you know the local trails, Ae good for a longer blast but not everyones cup of tea, all three have cafes but Dumlanrig's might be shut this time of year?

Try these guys, we got a cheap deal for MMRT to try them out a few years ago and I have found them warm, robust and good value for money. And they are made in Scotland as well.

The high st brands like north face, rab, berghaus are over priced IMO. Craghoppers and Columbia (TK Maxx usually have some) are worth a look as well.

When was the last service? Could be you need to change fuel filter, air filter and spark plugs? These make big difference to mpg.

I've got a a '07 4.2 Commencal. I put 5" forks on it (not recommended by LBS)and I am over 18st, ride fairly hard downhill on XC trails and no issues with the frame. Only disconcerting characteristic is the amount of flex at the rear wheel but you get used to it. Great traction on climbs as well.

    I like it.

I've bent specialized, race face, and Easton, its not necessarily Commencal only that have this issue.

I'm with Ton on this – Thomson every time.

Dalbeattie, do not understand why anyone would call it dull?? Singletrack there to me is a nice level of challenge picking a decent line, but then I am no riding god like some of the punters above. If you like bigger climbs and a thrash downhill then go to Ae but the singletrack is not technical at all apart from the eroded sections.

Have not ridden a Pace but I have a 19" PA 853 and i am 6 foot, 34" inside leg. I really like the way it rides, comfortable but good for technical descents and climbing. I have U turn 130mm revs on the front.

    Would recommend it.

Sandwich I have heard other folk rave about Paramo gear as well, costs a bit but good kit.

Ton i read replies to you post, what material is it they are making your jacket from? I have Goretex hillwalking gear made by Slioch and it is really good tackle, very breathable and waterproof but no good for biking unfortunately.

Last year I swapped my Endura waterproof for an older Gore top (forget the model) and its a decent jacket but its no longer waterproof, so Gore stuff is def a potential for me

    Sorry for highjack.

Ton I should be able to meet up with you at GT/ Inners for one of the days.

I might, just might be able to persuade a local to take us round the local hidden trails if you fancy?

Lots and lots of choice within your driving range. Another vote for Tarmachan, a nice introductory ridge walk.

Arrocher alps as suggested above for scenery.

    Bidean nam Bian?

    White corries.

Ben Vorlich, Stuc a Croin would be very easy to get to and a nice little walk.

Beinn A Ghlo is probably outwith your driving range limit, but its a nice drive up there at this time of year.

Also the Trossachs for non Munro walks and great scenery.

My PA is the 853 version that Trekster mentions above. I had an Inbred before but chnaged to the PA recently. Both bought 2nd hand off here.

I find the PA more comfortable than the Inbred and less "harsh", but that could be the revs I put on it, and the fact it is a slightly bigger frame?

Comparing both I would def prefer the PA/ revs combo (sorry Brant) since I find the geometry/ ride better.

All these lucky people with no debts and mortgages. I for one have very high debts relatively speaking but do have assets to balance that. I also have a stressful job, but its "good" stress and I am happy to keep on working and paying off those debts.

However I have also found through bitter experience where I found myself in a job that was also stressful but in a bad way that I could not tolerate it. After much soul searching I resigned, after which I realised it was the worst 6 months of my life and I have not looked back since.

    Choice is yours.
