Have you tried keeping the screenwash pump running, even is there a tiny dribble coming out keeping the wash on will eventually free it after what seems a painfully long time.

Another vote for a Scoobie for snow performance, I had a legacy and it had excellent traction plus a very strong car to boot.

    BUT

You will pay for it the rest of the year in low MPG, I dont know what the new diesel ones are like…..

seem to remember that is called the "clock reaction" or something like that??

Key part of carrying out such experimentation is be accurate in your technique. Weigh and measure out out all your reagents as accurately as you can and in this reaction be precise about the timing of the reaction commpletion. Tabulate your results properly etc. But as with all physical chemistry the hard work is in the interpretation.

    This brings back "happy" memories.

    Good luck.

Was up Mabie a couple of days ago and some persistent folks were out on their bikes but it was hard enough walking on the hard snow and ice. If the snow is fresh its ok, but where it has been ridden on or walked upon there is a lot of hard ice about. The pavements in Dumfries tonight are almost unwalkable with slippery ice.

I am seriously toying with the idea of completing the Keilder 100. Which for me would be a monumental goal for mr middle age spread at well over 18st, and doing very little riding at the moment. But I found when I entered HTN in 2007 with Ton that I really upped my riding when I had an event to think about.

I know the Keilder 100 is a tough event so any other lardy desk jockeys on here fancy targetting this one?

nedrapier – yes thats a good point you make, whne those happen its a major event with power lines and trees getting wrecked. But most of the time through the winter it stays well below freezing and sunny and clear and the air gets very dry to the point your nasal passages start drying up and getting sore, and the static build up in your car can be pretty impressive – I lived near to Philly.

I'm just arranging a business trip to Canada and a return mid week is about 2 to 3 times the cost if I return on a Sunday and spent a couple of days sight seeing.

drove dundee to Dumfries last night at about -4 C an had a lot of fun stopping to unfreeze the wiper blades, and that was with winter wash in. Britain seems to have the ideal ice formation climate, worked in the US and winters never had the same amount of hoar frost/ blac ice conditions even with -20 temps…

I got a pair of SLX's with rotors off of here nearly new for 100 quid and they are very good brakes for the price IMO.

Agree with Trekster + if your lad is unfamiliar with the bike a flying lap of the blue at Dalbeattie + a muck about on the skills loop might be a fun/ easier break into the new bike??

I'm 6' and have a 19" 853 PA, run it with 130mm revs, and I think its a great bike, tends to come out of the shed more often than the full sus bike, even for long rides.

i'd be up for a ride round about then, but, would probably only be doing red loop due to current fitness levels (more recent man flu.

Ton – you coming across MAbie/ Dalbeattie way on your trip??

Good programme to illustrate the amount of energy it takes to generate electricity.

Not sure about the basis of science used however. Someone pedalling a bike to generate electricity must be immensely inefficient means of converting energy consumed to electricity??

853 dialled bikes Prince Albert is another frame you should consider, rides very nicely in my opinion on technical trails and climbs well (well as good as its owner can).

Back to the OP, its interesting when you read these stats that Scotland income and expenditure are about equal, there has always been a general belief down south that it subsidises the Scottish economy. But as a general indication it appears not true from these figures.

As said before the problem with statistics is there are lies, damn lies, then statistics (apologies for what is surely a misquote)..

    Good post.

I just had an Alpha 30kW condensing combi fitted by friend who does this for a living. He swears by them and rates them above Worcester for quality control and warranty back up. It has been running a week and I am very pleased with it.

I love Top Gear and must have watched the repeats on Dave a number of times. They have made some absolutely classic TV- cross channel cars, space shuttle Robin Reliant, created the stig, thrashed the best supercars around the track and had some great guests.

    However

This series really is pants, and last night was very weak, not worth watching IMO.

Fraid not its been tipping it down in D&G, spent most of yesterday rescuing the kids and other dinghies from the local club. The water was chest deep in the dinghy park, and waist deep inside the clubhouse. What a mess!!

Still its a lot worse for the folks who have been flooded out of their houses. :|

Mercedes looked to be building a strong German team so it could be that the new team may have been luke warm to keeping him so he saw a good opportunity and jumped, good luck to him. Will be interesting to see the driver team dynamics at Maclaren.
