Can I be first to say that our future queen has a nice beetle bonnet?

I think the guy sitting down on the left staring at it would concur? :-)

I’m mainly looking at trail centres and medium cross country routes

I bought a Core 50 earlier this year and I have to say it is an excellent bike and would suit your requirements very well. Nice geometry, light, good spec, very flickable and lots of fun to ride on typical trail centre routes. When it comes to cross country it handles it well and has very plush forks so you dont feel beat up at the end of the day.

Things like the Core and a Cotic Bfe will be far too much bike if you’re just doing the North Downs or Glentress,

1 measure each of rolled oats, milk, water, slowly cooked, even better soaked overnight. Served with more milk and big dollop of honey. Sometimes with raisins.

A nicely made and designed jacket, BUT, I found it did not breath nearly enough for me and I got very damp/ wet from the inside out far too quickly and had to get rid of it.

I have SLX on two of my bikes and I think they are really good and they are stopping 18st!! I have never had XT to compare. I have never noticed them being squishy at all, they do pump up on long descents which require extended braking that generates a lot of heat but dont fade out.

“rode” up from Llanberis to the top and descended the same route a few years ago. You have to push up 80% of the way but its a pretty wicked descent to say the least! its worth it to see the look on peoples faces when you turn up at the summit with a bike!

I grew up just outside Dundee and went to Uni there and left in ’95. As said above there are lots of advantages to living there if you are into the outdoors, hiking, biking, skiing, and sailing come to mind. Affordable housing, easy access to most things, congestion not that bad etc. I have worked and lived in many areas including abroad and its not the worst place to stay by far. One thing it does have going for it is that its general attitude is an earthy friendly one, more akin to a large town rather than a city. There are awful areas for sure but which city doesnt have them? Lots of great places to stay, I would recommend the west end rather than “the ferry”. The west end is close to the uni and some decent pubs and restaurants etc.

You will also need to get a phrase book:

“Eh’ll a plehn peh and an ingin ane an ‘aw”, is a phrase required for visiting the local pattisiere.

Also “eh fehl doon the wellgate steps an meh peh it went skeh heh” is another one.

Its a braw bricht moonlicht nicht the nicht

    Cheers

Went there with family about 10 years ago and thought it was a good resort overall. It does depend on what you are used to though. If you really like the mega resort style of val d’Isere or 3 valleys with mega efficient lifts then its not for you. If you prefer a smaller resort with a friendlier atmosphere on the lifts and are prepared for slower lifts and long drags then it has a lot to offer. We found that somehow the matrix of lifts allowed to make up a variety of runs. If you are a boarder beware of the viscous (but fast) long button lifts at the top.

The resort itself (we were in Villeneuve) does not have much night life.

    Would go back.

I am no physician but dont assume all that weight loss is pure fat when doing your sums on calorie loss. Some will be gycogen, fluids etc. I will let someone who knows what they are talking about explain it.

Done it before and found it quite “elemental”, the last time I did it in the forest I ended up pedalling out of it PDQ with my mind convinced there was a red eyed, sabre toothed, taloned beastie/devil clawing at my back wheel.

    Where bouts are you?

    Up in SW Scotland.

Just had a thought, they were quoting about a grand to fit flue and knock out old fireplace, and render inglenook. If I could knock them down a bit on that then I am sure that could bring the price closer to being attractive. Then I am sure I could sort out a fireplace, plinth etc ready for someone to hook up a stove??

Nothing unusual in this type of approach from any team if they were facing the situation that Ferrari/ Massa are in. Even in teams where they dont normally run a no1/2 driver they will usually get a driver who cannot win a championship to support the other who has a real chance of lifting it.

Its a shame ’cause Massa is a decent bloke and Alonso isn’t, but they are in it to win it.

Agreed a concrete liner would be better but this will be an occasional use stove so i wouldnt go to the expense and hassle of that. The shop put a warranty of 15yrs on the felxi liner which is not bad.

If I went ahead with the job I would be looking for someone else to do the liner for sure. Call me a wimp but I aint going to the top of that gable end to muck about with a liner for sure, not unless it was scaffolded. TJ & Blazin how exactly did you work at that height to get the liner down the chimney, was it scaffolded?

The stoves I have seen that would fit would be about the 700 quid mark.

Went round this today and the Ae route has improved a lot due to the resurfacing work, definitely a more enjoyable trail now. Not too sure about the new berms on Omega mind but I probably wasnt going fast enough to get enough out of them.

Sounds to me starting from Crianlarich and over to FW is best option from comments above?

The reason I ask is that I never fancied it as a walk but thought it would be worthwhile on a bike as something different and certainly sounds like that it ticks that box?
