You're doing something wrong. I'm riding superstar kevlars all weather in the alps. I got though 2 sets in the summer and 1 so far sep-nov. That's riding minimum 3x/week. Swiss mud is not dissimilar to UK mud and these pads are outlasting all the OEMs I've tried. Power is slightly less than organic and there's some squeal until the water is gone but they do the job.

Theoretically you should be able to stay fairly close to a lorry in front if you keep aware as a car should always out-brake a lorry. The question is would you really want to?

There's the small matter of your reaction time to consider as well….

Further more, lorries slow down pretty rapidly when they crash into other lorries or walls etc

Calm down – I'm only making the point that education on first aid procedures specific to babies is required if your potential purchase of a breathing monitor is going to be an effective measure.

A friend has a "respisense" monitor that attaches to the nappy and despite some false alarms, he is happy and the nipper is still alive.

What would you do should one of them stop breathing? You certainly need to know the answer to that question before it's worthwhile getting a monitor. Mouth to mouth and chest compressions are not so simple with tiny babies….

Seems entirely non-suspect to me. Details are written by someone who knows their stuff and explanation is convincing:

I'm a bike mechanic so bike sold in perfect working order. Was my girlfriend's but we're leaving in Oct to cycle from NZ back to Glasgow. In perfect condition and worth around £600 new. Can post immediately or happy to have bike picked up from home in Glasgow. Thanks.

I found the Deuter Kid Comfort 3 to be in a class of it's own but be aware that due to the full length metal frame, it is very long and doesn't fold down – can be inconvenient for cars and planes.

So now they've been "unmasked", the taxpayer will need to pay millions to give them new identities and provide them protection once they get out of prison in a few years…

Running Nobby Nic snakeskin with Stans. No issues at all. Sealed in a couple of minutes.

Sidewalls on mountain kings are too flimsy for tubeless. Even if you get them sealed, you'll have to run such high pressure to get any stability that you'll negate any benefit.

Bear in mind that the event can be postponed from the Saturday until the Sunday depending on the weather (happened last year). Make sure your travel plans cover this.

Save some energy to laugh at all the xc whippet racer boys on their hardtails on the 1000m+ rocky final descent.

He won both the sprint finishes in the Tour de Suisse last week and to be honest, he and his lead out men looked untouchable. Did OK on the mountain stages but it’s only 9 days and it wasn’t too tough this year.

Mine’s been cancelled by Field and Trek. Not in stock is the excuse.

Also ordered one and recieved a confrmation. Must be a mistake since the Oregon 200 and 300 are listed at the same price.

If they catch you without the Auto Vignette on the Swiss motorways, you will pay CHF100 fine + CHF40 for the Vignette. They typically will also check every other possible thing on your car which could become expensive.

If you are riding mostly in Switzerland, it might be worth buying a bike Vignette from a post office for CHF5. This buys you personal liability insurance up to 2 million francs

traildog, the most noticable bounce is the low speed technical stuff, hence the 30rpm average cadence. Of course on a normal uphill section I am trying to spin like Lance.

ozzy, I’m probably very similar to you. 6’3, 209lbs, hardtail in the valleys during the winter, FS in the alps in the summer. When you are climbing 2000m in one go then you start to notice little things like pedal bob…. Highlight of the season is the Grand Raid – 121km, 5430m climbing (trying to get round before the cut-off…)

Excellent advice. I will mount a mirror on my helmet to enable me to maintain my optimum head position and still observe my shocking bob issues. I assume that the effects of rolling my eyeballs to check the mirror will be negligable?

Cadence is measured per minute and therefore the shock movement is more in the range of 1-2Hz (I’m more like 30rpm on technical climbs)which is somewhat more noticable than 120Hz

    Dez,

Yes, that’s about it. The bike rides well, “climbs like a bastard” but if I look down and see the shock compressing with each pedal stroke then I have to wonder how much energy is being wasted. Sure I can turn on the pro-pedal but this does change the handling charactaristic quite strongly and on a technical climb it begins to feel rather rigid and doesn’t stick to the terrain as well. If I add more air, the bob is lessened, the bike behaves OK uphill (compared to with PP on) but I don’t get as much use of the travel downhill. I’m trying to decide where to make the compromise.

    Simon,

If you keep this up, you’ll have a complete vocabulary by next Thursday.

    Peter,

Thanks for your reply, I am aware of the function of the pro-pedal. So with the pro-pedal off, you would expect a decent amount of pedal-driven shock compression then. (less with a well designed frame)

“What’s acceptable is learning to ride a full suspension bike.”

    Thanks for that. Very useful.

So once I’ve learnt to ride my bike, I shouldn’t have any bob at all?
