Yes, I have the new ones and have run the previous incarnations for years. A fantastic all round tyre that is surely burly enough for trail centres. I am 95kg, run them tubeless and have never had any puncture or sidewall issues.

Never had problems with any Maxxis or Schwalbe (Kevlar)

My u-turn cylinder has just failed for the second time with a pop, almost throwing me over the bars on a set of steps.

Trying to decide whether to try another warranty repair or get my money back and get a real fork (Talas). Tending towards the "not fit for purpose" route….

Hmm, can I really wait until the end of September to ride that.

(come on Dave, you know you want to….)

Disease carrying ones are common here in Northern Switzerland. I have the FSME vacination that protects against some of the nasties but not all.

if i am out on a ride say from home and i want to record a time for a certain section is there a way of doing this rather than saving the two rides seperately please??

Just press the lap button to start a new lap and then lap again at the end of the section. You will be able to review the stats for that specific lap in Connect or Training Centre afterwards.

OK, 1 litre of IPA purchased. Cost CHF20 = 12 quid! Swiss prices….

    Edit: purchased from a Chemist

I've used non-UST Nobbys for a couple of years now (2.2s, 2.4s on various rims). I use the snakeskin version for some additional sidewall protection and also more rigidity/stability (i.e. less rolling in the corners)

I always eventually managed with a track pump but it's a hell of a lot easier with my new compressor!

Pity about all the rain in the pics. I'd hate to have been there.

Funny that cos the chap with the big grin and the carpet covered helmet looks quite like a chap I know called Dave

Shop, although my forks were only a few hours old at the time. Turn around was approx 4 days.

Had the same. Fork would drop to 120mm at the first sign of a bump. U-Turn cylinder replaced under warranty and no problems since.

Agree with b r. In my experience of Germans and Swiss Germans they have a very healthy work-play balance. People typically start work early and leave early so that they can be outdoors. Very few people take their work home with them.

The problem is that the type of work that you can get in mountain regions is not normal 9-5 (or 7-4). Tourism and service industry jobs are very demanding. I know people who moved to the mountains and ride less now then they did when the lived in the Flachland.

Any tips for getting the non drive side crank off the spline? I tried a few months ago but it seemed well and truely stuck so I just changed the 2 outer rings and left the granny alone.

I run DT400s and 500s with Schwalbe non UST snakeskin tyres. Go for the 500 unless you are XC racing.

It's Ok but I wouldn't want it as my only option. It's pretty large when packed down and takes a while (various velcro to undo). Manouverability is pretty decent (I normally use the jogger wheel rather than the small buggy wheel)

Biggest downside for me (6'3") is the lack of adjustment of the handle. I end up having to take short steps to avoid kicking the "cabin"

why are you trying to avoid carbon? It's strong enough for F1 cars and jet planes….

also I doubt you're gonna put more forces through carbon than Chris Hoy

I doubt Chris Hoy's carbon bike cost £1000 though. Also, Chris Hoy doesn't tend to ride into kerbs and pot holes.

A couple of years ago in the US, I bought a single tub containing 1200 Aspirin.

I guess I have used 100 max in 2 years. Going at my current rate, it will last me a further 22 years….

What you have heard is what the manufacturers want you to believe because it defines their brand and the niche for those particular products.

Personally I would try and forget all of that and test ride them and form your own opinions.

What is this washing machine thing to which you are all referring. I leave all my dirty stuff in a corner and the next day it's clean in a drawer. I always assumed it worked this way for everyone.

One thing to note if you are going to run 203mm rotors on the front is that the PM fitting on these forks is a 7" one, not the usual 6", so you'll need the Magura QM26 PM adaptor, just ordered on from my LBS (a registered Magura dealer) for the princely sum of £14, they have to order it in from Germany, direct from Magura.

If anyone else needs one of thes QM26 adaptors, let me know. I have an unused one that you can have for a tenner.

Good job. My parents did exactly the same thing 40 years ago. I think that the challenge you face will be greater though. The country has been through some tough times lately…

    Take a snow shovel.

(The campsite should be clear but a lot of the trails above 1600m could still be snowy in places)

I find the sizing and ride of Canyons to be very "forgiving". Since they are mail order only, I suppose they are designing them to suit as many people as possible straight out of the box.

I have 2 – A carbon Spectral AX9 and a Torque FR. I've ridden Nerve AMs and Grand Canyons as well as some of their road bikes.

The Grand Canyon is a great ride. I assume you are looking at the female specific model?

Excellent value, design and build. Post sale service is rather weak but if you want that then buy something from your LBS.

Consistanly rated best in class by the German magazines.

I fitted my forks and they failed on the first "pump", still in the garage. Most of the people on Mtbr report the same. If yours are still going after several hours then you maybe OK. Most worrying is that some people had their forks replaced and suffered a further failure.

    Schweiz

Oh dear – Lots of folks on MTBR with identical problem. Seems to be a generic fault on the '10 U-turns and Rockshox don't seem to have got a handle on fixing it yet….

Plenty of singletrack marked on those maps (and colour graded as well. I have ridden Ischgl-Scuol-Livigno and plenty od trails around Davos and you will be spoilt for choice.

A word of warning – if it's marked black then it will probably only be rideable in the downhill direction.

If you can understand some Italian then this site has 90+ tours in the region.

This site could also be useful

    Yes, there are plenty

Best would be to buy the applicable Singletrail maps No 25 is worth getting for the best route between Ischgl and Scuol via Val Sinestra. From Scuol to Livigno you can follow the signposted National Park Bike Marathon route. If you get map 22 then this covers the area until just south of Davos.

The maps can be bought online or are widely available from bike shops or tourist offices out there. I assume you're planning early for the summer and not heading out there this winter…
