I could have had an epic one, but it would have been deemed as cheating, and there was no way I could let my first winter hobo beard go. 😀

I thought it was decent but the ending was a real let down, I was left thinking surely that’s not it, but the music confirmed that was indeed ‘it’.

Still has nothing to do with the loudness wars.

    schrickvr6

even the LP mastering of an album had the LOUDNESS treatment

That’s fine up to a point, everything needs mastering to an extent and if you can make it brighter and louder without totally killing the dynamics it should be done.

A compressor has what is called a knee or a threshold, this is used so that any thing that passes the volume the knee is set at wil be compressed or squished, this could be set to 0 or infinity so that everything will be compressed, but generally it is set to only squish or compress the loudest peaks, then the gain can be brought up on everything to fill the same space without clipping, then there are also brickwall limiters.

MP3 will be mastered exactly the same as CD version, but will be compressed going to lossy format from lossless. That has nothing to do with mastering and Loudness war though… You can master as hot for vinyl as you can for a digital format.(Some do and this would sound even worse)

Mastered to be compressed into neat little MP3/AAC low quality packages.

    Really?

And for something different, The Goats. Don’t u derstand why that first album, which I though was a work of genius, didn’t immediately make them massive.

Tricks Of The Shade or another The Goats?

I had a Quaife and a Peloquin on my highly tuned VR and it killed the handling on the crap roads around here, putting your foot down on anything more than a slightly bumpy road was like trying to wrestle a silverback. Had mine in vaious stages of tune from supercharged to beyond Vento cup spec (revved to 8000rpm) the plan was always for throttle bodies but unfortunately never got around to it. In my experience, thirsty, not that reliable, expensive to fix and maintain, not ‘that’ quick, but sound amazing. I miss it but would I go back from my tuned PD130? No way.

    Ok, 17 now

I will be sad to see this thread go – I’ve discovered loads of new (and old) music through this. Oh well…

    What have I missed?

Edit: Is there a 5000 post limit? And I’ve just wasted one of the last few? 😯

I didn’t have a car for 7 years and now have 3 years no claims, was expecting insurance to be 500 this year after £960, £700, £596 in the last 3 years, was a pleasant suprise when Endsleigh came up with £270 for a 330i touring fully comp.

Sssimon please drive your 330i down to the post office and post my chainring, or at least reply to my email as you are obviously posting on here.

Scan today only is a good call especially on the weekend when you can pick up pretty much everything you need.

I’d definitely recommend a K series Ivybridge I5 and a Z77 mobo, either Gigabyte or Asrock which I prefer, 8gb of ram is plenty, SSD system drive + a storage drive, a bare minimum 550w quality psu, cooling and case depend on budget. I’ve got pretty much that system but with a sandybridge cpu clocked to 4.7ghz and it munches through everything, renders in seconds and rarely goes over 30% cpu in live with 50+ vst instances running.

I make music as a hobby and build computers for a liviing so could put something together, give you some advice if needed.
