    they are pretty gopping…. and how they can still call it a ‘mini’ is beyond me:

    +1. didn’t know about these new oversized ones until I saw one the other day and sicked a little.

    Maybe they should resurrect the Maxi name for them. Or Allegro.

    Recipe off t’internet using dry chickpeas…

    * 1 cup dried chickpeas
    * 2 Tbsp olive oil
    * Salt and seasonings of your choice

    1. Soak the chickpeas overnight.
    2. Drain and place in a pot of water over high heat.
    3. Boil for 10-12 minutes, drain, and cool slightly.
    4. Preheat the oven to 400.
    5. In a large bowl, toss the chickpeas with enough olive oil to coat and mix with salt and spices.
    6. Spread in a single layer on a baking dish or foil lined cookie sheet and roast for 30-35 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the chickpeas are golden brown (a few of them may be a little overdone – this is just fine).
    7. Cool and munch!

    Well if you need a new hero, how about Eddie Kidd? Britain’s very own stunt jumper world record holder from the 80s. Ended up paralysed after a crash in the 90s. This year he entered the London Marathon to raise money for a children’s charity. One month in he has just passed the 16 mile mark.

    I have a Z2 fork sitting in a cupboard somewhere, only kept for owning purposes. It’s circa 1998, (off a 1999 explosif), 60mm travel, red, hasn’t been on a bike since 2005, needs a service – seals were leaky when i took it off IIRC. No idea what state the internals might be in. Externally the stantions are perfect (protected by rubber boots). Lowers have a few scuffs. No disc mount though.

    +1 for Hydrocolloid plasters. Skinned my arm from wrist to elbow once – nice big dressing from Boots = sorted, no scars. Chicks don’t dig it mind.

    Thought I’d get a bigger flame for having it in the bike forum rather than chat.

    I like that POC helmet – looks like something a Star Wars Rebel soldier would wear. That’s going on my birthday present list, only 365 days to go 🙁

    There’s a monsteryeti on here, currently got a thread going…

    I have to admit i find yetis rather intimidating, ever since having the crap scared out of me as a kid watching the made for TV movie Snowbeast…

    Looks like they’ve remade it too.

    Duuuuuude, you’re a yeti. Being shy is part of your DNA. If yetis were outgoing and gregarious we’d have more evidence than a bit of mangy fur and an old photo of some footprints in the snow. Or do even the other yetis think you’re a bit of a wallflower?

    I had something similar on a DMR Trailstar as a result of using a disc brake. I had tugs on both sides. When set up with V brakes I had no problems but when changed to a disc brake the braking forces kept pulling the wheel out of alignment. couldn’t stop it happening no matter how tight i set the QR (XT). Contemplated using a bolt through axle or a different QR but in the end went with a different frame (wanted to run gears anyway). The disc brake mount on the DMR was in the normal place on the top of the chainstay, someone else above has mentioned that the position of the mount affects the direction of the forces and that it shouldn’t be an issue on your frame, but maybe not?

    We turned down a wedding invite one time simply because my friend had only gone and arranged it in a church. He knows i’m an atheist and my wife is a devil-worshipper so she’s none to fond of them either. The frend who’d invited us got very upset, and tried the old “if we were real friends you’d do this for me” routine (Blimey, how many times have I heard that spiel). My response, that if we were real friends he’d arrange his wedding doen the local registrar’s office, fell on deaf ears, but that’s royalty for you.

    From Stresa on Lago Maggiore there’s a cable car upto to a small ski area on the top of Mt Mottarone. Iwas there in the summer 18 months ago and there downhillers make use of the cable car. Didn’t get to see the bike trails though as i was on foot. Might be worth looking into though.

    I still dispute this happy with claim

    I used the phrase ‘happy with’ in the simplified context of CM’s original premise where lib=tory. I may have repeated if after but that was just sloppiness. I’m happy (ahem) to replace it with ‘mostl happy’ or ‘less unhappy’ or ‘least dissatisifed’. I guess t depends on whether you view your ballot box as being half full or half empty. I agree av doesn’t necessarily give a postive endorsement but the same is true with fptp. AV wouldn’t be my system of choice but like Junkyard I think it is a step in the right direction.

    I’m more on the side of which system is better for ‘the people’

    Any suggestions for which system is this?

    It’s innocent enough. Schnulle is a who not a what.

    Charlie,

    Assuming like you do that lib=tory then under fptp the lib-tory vote is being split between 2 candidates and the labour one wins. You’re happy but the majority (for argument’s sake) lib-tories aren’t. Under AV the lib-tory majority get a candidate their happy with, and the labour minority don’t. Which is fairer?
    In the real world i think your lib=tory assumption is misplaced. Even if it were true of Liberal MPs it certainly isnt true of liberal voters. I’d be willing to bet that more lib voters would put labour as their second choice under av than tory. If after the next general election there’s no overall majority in the Commons I don’t think it is safe to assume that the libs would jump back into bed with the tories again. They’ve gone with labour before and i think their core support would be happier to go with labour in the future. I think you have a viable second vote for the libs.

    Ultimately i think you when you decide on the fptp/av vote you shouldn’t be thinking ‘which system is most likely to give the result I want’ but ‘which system is most likely to give a result that most people are happy with’.

    It’s probably obvious which way I’m leaning.

    If I win a euromillions multi-multi rollover I’m buying Palace and Messi and we’re going to win the Championship and the Premier League before I run out of dosh. I think i can save a few quid as he can wear the same shirt.
