it seems to have a bolt that is half an mile long at this point!

Do you mean that the bolt is rising out from the top cap but seems long (ie maybe it IS long – carry on unscrewing until it’s out) or that it’s turning and NOT rising at all (in which case either the SFN/whatever device is likely spinning, or the thread is stripped)

    I’m guessing the latter.
try loosening the stem bolts and “lift” the stem and top cap. This might put enough tension in the system for the SFN to “hold” and the bolt to undo while you continue to pull up on the stem. (if the bolt/SFN is stripped it should all just lift out anyway)

Haven’t yet dared to put Revolting Cocks – Beers, Steers & Queers on the “to do” list

if they’re in breach of whatever they promised you, you could always try to cancel the contract ??

if you google, I think there’s an email address – one of murdoch’s sons probably – that gets escalated to a “sort it out” team. They might just decide to execute you though

Bimbler, I don’t think rank & file MPs are worth that much really

    Seems to me:

You need to be able to ingratiate yourself with constiuency activists & get nominated

You need to be lucky enough that the small active group at the head of your chosen party is currently popular enough for you to be voted in

Once in, you need to be able to behave like a schoolkid during debates then do as you’re told by the whips. Oh, and maybe sit on a few committees, plus occasionally show your face back at constituency to hold surgeries (where you hear complaints & pass them on for others to deal with – or not, it’s not like you need to care once you’re seen to pass the buck)

recently bought my 1st “bit” from them – was fine

they were out of stock but emailed me more than weekly & phoned a couple of times to confirm I wanted to wait rather than cancel (was running up to Christmas so it could have mattered to me BUT I suppose they were busy)

I’d happily use em again but would phone ahead if I needed the order quickly

MrN, are those pressures what your pump reads after reattaching? If so, then your real ones must’ve been a bit higher (but then I think you prob know that stuff)

any idea what 4 pumps puts into the right leg ? (yes, AIR)

I’ve left that empty in the past but might have a go (always seemed to me that it ramps up enough anyway even without any pressure in there, but then I am a bit of a nancy)

When I was about ten I was using one of those reciprocating hedge-trimmers & (for no real reason) put my finger on the top layer before pressing “go”

funny thing is, it had a bit of a recoil on it that kicks upwards…

didn’t dare tell my mum & dad so I stuck the tip back on with a plaster. It healed fine but totally numb

Sit in a car on a dark, wet night with raindrops on the windows and reflections off the roads and play spot the cyclist

Gary – I’d take the rough with the smooth. If I want to be treated as part of the traffic, I’ll stay in the queue

(mind, it’s not a highly congested route. mostly quite fast-moving)

If I was going to commute by bike I’d rig up a light bar to fit across the back of the thing. I’d extend it about a foot on nearside and 2ft on the offside & stick one of those bright leds on either end – whether dark or not

If dark, I’d also rig up lights to shine onto me, 1 from behind & 1 in front (reckon bike lights don’t get properly processed by drivers & get lost amongst distant headlights etc)

Bottom line – I think I’d resign my job rather than ride that road

    scaredypants

I only ride road for “pleasure” and get to stay off busy roads so don’t feel in danger – or hardly ever

But every day I drive along a stretch of A-road & see cyclists at risk. Makes me wince, esp in winter when it’s darkish at peak times.

Worht noting that the road’s not really wide enough for 2 cars & a bike, let along car/lorry/bike and this of course is the source of danger. It’s also semi-rural, floods quite a lot at the edges and has crappy ill-defined margins.

When the occasional considerate driver waits for a decent passing place to get round a bike, they tend to generate a queue of about 30 vehicles all travelling at bike pace. I can see why this might wind up drivers but there is no realistic alternative route if you have to cycle to work. I wouldn’t dare ride it.

Chakaping – I don’t think their (JaMC) subsequent records were shite either, that’s my point; it’s just that the debut was hyped to ridiculous lengths (all that crap about being transcendent etc).

It’s good but not great IMO (just was VERY different to what else was around). They couldn’t just have churned out the same again without being labelled formulaic (it was a bit of a one-trick album really)

    I think Second Coming’s OK

Stone Roses’ trouble wasn’t the lack of quality there, it was the MASSIVE hype that surrounded them after the 1st album (yeh, it’s good but they didn’t change the bleedin’ world)

Jesus & Mary Chain too, NME etc were beside themselves with excitement over them, when it was a “good record” plus some decent live shows (IMO)
