servicing via king direct in the US is pretty cheap.
you should only use a cassette with an alloy carrier on any alu freehub body, not just king.

I've been running king hubs since they first came out. Previously I would have always said King hubs over anything else. Shimano still produce the lowest drag hubs available, assuming you perform regular maintenance.
With the current cold weather we've been having I've had a king rear freehub slip a few times. King suggest different lube for lower temperature riding… sure I'll just check the weather forecast, then change the hub grease….
now? I'll stick with Hope, no probs in minus temperatures, pretty much the same weight as king.

"Almost any fork can be limited to less travel even if not designed for it. Just fit a longer top out stack/spring or limit how far the fork can extend." that will only work for short reductions in travel. making big changes will affect overall damping performance & isnt recommended.

theres a cafe about a mile along the canal from the cwmcarn centre. when you come to a large S bend road cutting across the road (from the railway line crossing), go to the other side of the canal & theres a bike friendly tea room.
cwmcarn may only have one marked trail, but its got significantly more unmarked trails with an even greater variety of trails.

marsdenman, 17st yeh? do you do much in the way of jumps/ drops? extended airtime? I'm only 10.5st, but I do quite a lot of drops & jumps (with alu bars)

has anyone reported this as its highly likely stolen.

rowan was repairing the “freeride” only a month ago so I’m surprised to hear its been dismantled. I was there on monday night & they were there.

1985 was the first mountain bike. but I was riding in the mountains, brecon beacons for a few years before that.

the new 09 talas is nothing like the older 08 & before talas internals, significantly better. I’m running the 15qr 32talas, 110/130/150mm travel on 1 bike & 36 talas on another bike. yes the 36 feel stiffer, only 10mm more travel than the 32 talas, but they weigh 1lb more. so thats the decision to make, is the 10mm more travel & slight extra stiffness of the 36 worth the 1LB weight increase for you?

the “freeride” section is being re-surfaced, loggin on the short section odin. the rest of the trail is running pretty fast. the last section from the fireroad to the carpark has had some minor work forcing you to stick to the propper trail & not giving you the option of cutting the corners, which is no bad thing.

I believe mojo sponsored rider & personal friend anthony oboyle has the quickest lap time of 36mins, 17seconds. a few weeks ago the trail was summer like bone dry & I managed a 44min lap.
I notice a few people have mentioned cwmcarn is only worth 1 lap, then a trip to afan is in order. I’ve ridden cwmcarn & beyond since 1985 & theres a mass of unknown trails in & around the greater area. I take out guided rides for all abilities, contact me if you’re interested 🙂
