I drove 7hrs in australia once just to watch a race. Chris Kovarik pulling the biggest controlled drifts I’ve ever seen on a bike, awesome 🙂

I remember doing a NPS race there in around 89 & suffering like hell in granny ring on 1 climb & I consider myself a climber. so yes as per above, course dependant.

swedish chef, I’m using oakley jawbones which are the worst fogging glasses I’ve ever owned 🙁

I’ll try the fairly liquid tip, thanks 🙂

I went to Leogang during the world cup DH 2yrs ago. the trails are pretty cool, I really liked the bongo bongo trail, but as mentioned above, you’d need to travel, theres not enough trails there for a weeks riding.

jinksrct. castle coatings in caerphilly are experienced in bike powdercoating & realisitically priced, with a pretty quick turnaround.

DH trip to austria & my friends shimano saint BB died on the 4th day. got home regreased my King BB & it was like new. that was 2years ago & still nothing to report. if you shop around you can find them cheaper.

the evo version wear out pretty fast. I’m hoping to get longer life from the cheaper/harder performance version. that said, they’re pretty light & surprisingly grippy for such low rolling resistance.

” just push your lock-on grips out a bit on your current bars to 711, cheapest way to try it

Don’t do that, there’d be nothing holding your grips on! Lock ons only stop the rotating, they dont stop the grip/lockig colar form coming apart! There’d just be a tiny little lip on the plastic sleve between you and a nasty accident! “

its not recommended. but aaron gwin did that when he first started riding with Yeti. then some1 noticed & quickly slapped some wider bars on..

ideally with flat pedals installed, ride slowly up a very steep hill. middle ring, largest cassette cog is ideal. pull up hard with both a strong pedal stroke & your arms. pick a point in the distance & focus on it, this will help your balance. at all times cover the back brake. for people who’ve mastered wheelies you’ll notice them feathering the back brake to ensure you dont over rotate & fall off the back.
in 1992 I didnt think I’d ever be able to wheelie, its just a matter of putting the time in to practise.
with further practise one handers, rolling non footers & even non hander wheelies are all possible.

15mm cannot be converted to 20mm, only 9mm quick release.

Hope should take a lesson from King, Mavic & others that use a system of preloading the bearings to compensate for wear.

I’ve been riding road bikes for only a year, but mountain bike for 25yrs. if the road is fairly slack angled, 10% then the road bike is much faster. if the road is steep, theres some 25-30% unclassified roads around here, then you’d be better off with the lower gearing & smaller wheels of the mtb, despite the road bike being significantly lighter.

I’ve found the biggest training benefit of road bikes is theres never an excuse to stop pedalling. on a mtb its amazing how much freewheeling & recovery you have compared to road riding.

have a look for the kennet bros book about mtb routes.
Rotorua stinks, but some cool trails.
if you go to mt.cook, take the road on the right & check out the tasman glacier. its a tough climb, but do-able.

just to confirm. the upper end Slash frame will be available as a seperate frameset, but it’ll be a few more months.

I had a quick spin of 1 last week in morzine. firmer, better pedaller & longer toptube than a 575.
look for more info on mtbr.com yeti specific forum or http://www.yetifan.com

make your own chainwhip. as a skint student in 1992 I bolted some chain to the other end of a headset spanner & its worked fine ever since.

just to counter the discussion & to answer the above question. yes the king would easily last 6times longer than the SLX. leogang-austria DH trip last year was filthy dirty & torrential rain with the bike getting numerous jet washings (yes I know you shouldnt..).returning home the bearings were gritty. a simple regrease & the BB was silky smooth. my friends shimano saint b.bracket given the same conditions, was dead.

I like Hope hubs, but they could be so easily improved by using a system such as king & mavic, whereby small amounts of bearing play can be easily removed.

fine to run them flipped for both road & mtb. i asked thomson direct a few years back.

trek fuel EX. feels lighter to ride than it does to pick up (& they’re not heavy!) exceptionally agile & lively feeling (my old orange5 felt dead in comparison). 120mm & takes a taper fork for the upper end frames. really composed under heavy braking with the ABP

I might go to watch the road race at boxhill. I certainly wont be paying for tickets. I would have vastly prefered it go to another country

you need to remove the metal & rubber seals from the BB in order for the old grease to escape, when purging with new grease.

I havent tried it the headset regrease
