for less than £1000 you could get an old steel shipping container

I’d totally avoid different length cranks. a friend of mine rode different length cranks without realising, for a few months & now he has serious knee issues.

like a lot of people above. total disgust at the price rises. forced to use myhermes. hope they’re reliable

royalmail may have lost money previously, thats there issue to sort out internally. compared with european delivery costs royalmail was already expensive. but with this massive price hike they’re going to loose considerably more money, purely as people will be forced to use other companies.

cwmcarns a pretty short descent. even if you had been dragging the brakes you shouldnt have had total fade. I’d fully bleed the brakes with new fluid

incidently greg minaar said in an interview because christmas that hes exceptionally hard on brakes are he constantly drags them. maybe the new saint brakes would be a good upgrade as they certainly seem to stop greg 🙂

i’m surprised & impressed by how much choice there is. when shimano finally commit & start producing a full hydraulic STI then I look forward to building something similiar 🙂

maybe I should have added some of my hubs are over 10yrs old & going strong. yes intermediate maintenance. just because something costs more, doesnt mean you can ignore it for ever. the fact that they’re so easy to service is a major bonus.

I’m surprised by all the faff comments as I find them super easy to work on. you dont need to change the bearings, a full clean & regrease gets them back to superb condition. a few allen keys & you can pull out the axle, access to the bearings & its easy to clean the ringdrive to keep it free running with no drag.

if anything the r45 road hubs are very lightly greased & have exceptionally low drag. I put a little more grease in, so while they roll a little slower, they require less service intervals.

yes they’re expensive brand new. but if you shop around you can get full mavic/stans wheelsets 2nd hand for £300 & sometimes a lot less. thats what I did.

generally the more expensive cassettes use an alu carrier for the larger cogs that spreads the load & prevents damage to soft alu freehub bodies

nics are fast rolling & lightweight, but the sidewalls arent the strongest & they tend to wear fairly quick. really impressed with the hans dampf so far. it also seals up tubeless a lot easier than the nic.

yes, paypal can take money from your accoun & even put you into overdrawn in your paypal account. theres no guarentee, just offer a full refund if the buyer isnt happy, providing the item is returned to you in its original condition. also make sure the item is sent fully insured with tracking, so the buyer cant claim it didnt arrive.

I’m 5ft 10in tall & 140lbs. occasionally I eat like a pig, but most of the time I look after myself & eat sensibly as I like how strong I feel on the bike.
I also like how a light bike feels, so there doesnt make much sence spending lots on lightweight bike swag, if i was carrying a few pounds myself.

I cant recommend the Shimano boots, or any goretex boots in general. while they work fine in light surface spray, in heavy rain or deeper water slowly trickles into the shoe which makes your feet freezing cold & wet. kinda like wearing wellies & pouring water into them. After 25years of trying to keep my feet dry i’ve kinda given up & now accept its more important to keep your feet warm & accept they might get a little wet. I now use merino wool socks, top end altura rubber overshoes with standard shoes. the overshoes keep the worst of the water out, but allow water to drain from the shoe & the merino stays warm.

I feel your pain. despite some tubeless ready claims, some times just wont seal up on stans rims. continental mountain king 2s are a bitch to seal. its deffo the choice of tyres. schwalbe hans dampf went up 1st time with a track pump. bontrager & schawble tyres seem to seal up easily too.

if you pay via normal paypal (instead of gift) then you’ll be fine. you’ve got 45days to raise a dispute if the item/s dont arrive.

could be possible early tendonitus. try googling squates & lunges to strengthen inner leg muscles.
failing that & as mentioned above, too low saddle height can also lead to knee pain.

cheapo shimano arent really user serviceable.
8hrs of DH in Leogang torrential rain & filthy conditions a few years ago. my friends shimano saint BB seized up. while my king BB felt rough, a simple regrease with the required tool & it felt like new again.

reading the blurb, does the self amalgamating type only adhere to itself? its a slightly weird shape surface, so not sure if I can just spiral wrap the tape, really needs to be applied in strips

    lovely bike.

purely FYI. I had a chris king titanium headset in a titanium frame for 8years & when it came time to remove it (I sold the frame) it came out easily. you just need to coat all surfaces with ti prep to prevent any creaking. I never had an issue with the 8yrs I rode that bike.

FoD isnt far from me. never had people stopped mid trail. ashton court & leigh woods were far worse for that.

oh yeh, love the trail. fast & flowing smoothness

orange 5 lasted 2.5yrs, then cracked. fuel ex feels so much livelier to ride & feels a lot more composed in the rough, esp under braking where all single pivot frames suffer. resale of fuels is actually better than 5s too.

you dont need to bleed them to swap the hoses over. take the pads out, pump the lever till the piston sticks out. undo the hose at the lever & hold the hose vertically upright, attach the new olive & insert (included), then re attach the hose, push the pistons back in.

    also 2days b.t.w
