my ride partner and I loved the WTB Vulpines – daft quick but sketchy as on anything a bit damp!

I got my hands on some of the cheap Crossmarks and they are very quick too!

apparently the overall energy input required / couple of hours is the equivalent of what you get from a Digestive biscuit!

Mine is newly built up now.

I have put together a bike (now my only mtb bike!) to concentrate on self supported / going long events for the foreseeable future (BB200, Highland 440-530 etc) and with the help of Kemo M172 now powers the light and satnav.

When it was first built up I thought the hub was borked as it was so so so clunky when trying to spin it in your hands (I fact I actually rang up Exposure to enquire about it!). However, once fitted with a QR into the forks it spins fine. If you spin the wheel unweighted in the forks it just get very slightly clunky when slowing down to a stop but once weighted (i.e. in proper riding conditions!) you don’t notice it!

Went for a 4 hour ride at the weekend o shake down the new bike and it worked well. The hub charged the GPS and at the end of the ride there had been no reduction in the level of charge in the unit.

Will be taking it out on a night ride this week to see how it works in the dark!

on my way to 3000 this year but wish I could do more.

the start to this year hasn’t helped as not a lot in jan – march.

I work from home or I’m away so early morning or late evening 20-40 mile rides work best.

tend to do 70 – 130 a week depending on stuff (usually kids!)

when it was being drunk discussed a few weeks back we were thinking 6 days @140 miles ish per day, self supported i.e. wild camp / bivi with maybe 1 hotel in the middle.

would be annoyed if, having all the kit (bike and camping stuff), the bill came to more than £400

mad to have given it back or called it in. Its been picked from a list by someone who couldn’t distinguish from a 1 and a 2. it would be untraceable and either way nowt would have come of it as to retrieve it would have cost more than the raw cost of the unit to apple (i.e. an ipad costs apple less than £100, a letter from apple and escalation would cost in the order of £3-400. it just wouldn’t fly.

if you feel better for it that’s good, if you got a bargain and karma points, even better but you should always enjoy a windfall to its fullest as they come round so seldomly.

yes, but mainly because Sheffield CC / Derbyshire CC insist on sanitising the bridleways round these parts!

Ride politely and on your own / in very small groups and live and let live in my opinion!
