Cheers man, that’ll teach me to look at spreadsheets on a mobile!
scaledFree Member@robbo1234biking i seem to be missing off the spreadsheet mate
Scaled = Kai Barrett [STW]
Just checked Strava, pre lockdown I was nearly 1:30 faster over that course
scaledFree MemberI’d forgotten about the hill, got half way through it and was giving it the gas so I could empty the tank before the end, very nearly emptied my stomach. Good fun though, some of you lads are proper rapid!
scaledFree MemberGoing to be an interesting one tonight, I did ‘Orange Unicorn’ last night and on the nursery/school run I could barely turn the pedals
scaledFree MemberTuesday nights is it? If I can be late to the party that’d be great!
80kb and currently at 276 FTP.
My HRM is on the fritz at the moment so it makes every ride look like i’m cruising around having a brew though
scaledFree MemberThink I have 9 packets of blocs (too many)
Right well, i’m unpacking my bags, what bike are you riding? I’ll just follow you around :D
I’m on an Orange Crosslight with completely mismatched bags, Staying at the Kielder campsite with the family, pop in and say hi if you see us!
scaledFree MemberAnyone want to predict midge activity?
We have skin so soft, jungle spray and midge nets for all the family!
scaledFree MemberCheers @crosshair you’ve scared me into some ‘training’ I rode manchester to leeds off road on saturday on a bowl of shreddies, an out of date energy gel and a satsuma. Topped up my water bottle from a kindly chap watering his front garden with a hose and actually felt alright.
The worrying thing is the prospect of doing it twice, and with more hills.
scaledFree MemberI think you’re overthinking it @crosshair Just shove a load of haribo and pork pies in your saddle bag and get down to the start line.
Anyone else camping? I’m booked onto the kielder campsite with the family for our first ever camping expedition, what could possibly go wrong?.
scaledFree MemberI’m in and frankly, just hoping to get round. When i signed up I was a lot fitter than I am now. Infact, I’ve barely ridden at all.
One saving grace is that I’m quite good at talking to myself and turning pedals slowly. That might be negated byt he fact the only chainrings I could find were 52/34 :'(
scaledFree MemberWell, I came here to post the DNB by bike link, but that’s been done already.
Check some of this out, TC essential mix
And on the darker side.. RIP The End
scaledFree MemberOur disney+ subscription is up for renewal @Mark is the list still valid?
scaledFree MemberNot helped by getting Altra trainers just before lockdown 1 either.
Interesting, I’ve not long had a pair of Altra Torins and although really comfortable they do seem to make the rest of my shoes feel tight. I’m pretty sure running (started Jan this year) has pancaked my feet a bit
scaledFree MemberI’ve not done many miles this year, but my new riding buddy, although really slow is impossibly cute…
It’s taking us ~40 minutes to do the 3km to nursery but he’ll do pretty much anything to be allowed to ride his bike in the morning.scaledFree MemberMy wife thinks it’s brilliant, get the kids to bed about half seven and go for a 5k run and finish like its the end of the Boston marathon
scaledFree MemberWe know they live in Falkirk, drive a green mini and have last two registration letters. But seemingly not.
That sounds like a job for cycling twitter
scaledFree MemberI’ve also ridden loads of mental blocks (where I can with lockdown) in the last month.
Stuff I’ve previously crashed and injured myself on and stuff that just plain scared me I’ve just thought “might be the last time so send it”I think i still have a couple of KOMs when i was waiting for the nut sack lump tests!
With regards to the sedation you’ve definitely come to the right decision, I went looking for my bike after I was sedated, much to the worry of all the staff. I’d not even ridden it there.
scaledFree MemberI fell out of a tree last night and have a pretty sore foot.
If anything it’s just taught me that i’m just too fat to climb tree at the moment and to use better anchor points.
scaledFree MemberI’ve always loved a gear box on a bike, now it just looks like a next gen eBike
scaledFree MemberGet a pack of those foam jigsaw tiles from halfords and claim you’ve “remodeled” the room as a yoga studio and turbo room.
£30 and 10 mins, sorted.
scaledFree MemberWe had had to lift our bikes over a gate with ROAD CLOSED on it, but we still fancied our luck, until we came to the A555 construction site, 6 lanes wide and about 50ft below us. The bridge that used to be there was no more. Twas a fair cop :D
scaledFree MemberI’ve not been on a bike for fun or training for bloody months so this might get me off my arse if i can get the kids in bed in time!
I’ve just followed you Robbo, not sure what my FTP is at the moment though but i’m about 78 KG at the moment :/
scaledFree MemberI’m calling bullshit, simply on the basis of:
1) if it was as good as you say it was, why had it ended by sunrise
2) if the drugs were as good as you say it was, why were you sober by that time? All the tidying up was done while whoever was driving had a stern word with themselves, a process that could take a while when the first thing you had to drive past was a police cordon.
scaledFree MemberI wouldn’t want to use it for anything properly secure but ngnix has a port knocking module that’d work pretty well in this instance to enable the port forwarding to the printer backend?
scaledFree MemberRaspberry Pi with Primary level kids……. LOL!!!!
My 9 year old is loving it, she’s properly amused that despite what I do for a living she’s able to pick it up almost as fast as I am.
We’ve got an old Pi 1 fired up and she’s getting her hands dirty with no GUI or IDE from her chromebook. Only thing I’ve had to help her with so far is the difference between ` and ‘
The most important lesson she’s learning is how to google an error message :D
scaledFree MemberI had a good blast up the Alpe last night, not been on for ages or really ridden outside other than commuting so was nicely rested (like 2 months rested).
The goal was to get sub hour and get the wheels on the spinner (spoiler alert, another helmet) I’d not exactly geeked out on the w/kg needed to get up sub hour. managed 300+ watts for the first couple of corners so figured that would be a fun game to play for the next 20 odd.
Was going pretty well till my netflix bugged out and left me with nothing by my suffering :D I certainly don’t think I’ve got 2 more minutes in the tank at the moment for sub 45 as was pretty gassed at the top.
scaledFree MemberWhat rims? I seem to be having this issue with a set of Grail rims with a couple of tyres recently.
scaledFree MemberSounds like you’ve got it pretty much sorted, the only thing I seem to do differently on my little sojourns is stop at the occasional pub for a pint, 3 packets of crisps, a pork pie and maybe some chips. Obviously great opportunity to refill water bottles etc. Cramp is my enemy on these trips, I don’t think I could give up my mudguards though, that’s just crazy talk.
Shotblox work well for me, much less plastic rubbish to worry about and it’s much easier for me to grab from a jersey pocket while i’m going along.
My normal trips are Manchester to Northamptonshire or Lincolnshire. I’ve always enjoyed 80+% of the journey, 15 of my last 20 miles into the fen blow wasn’t much fun, I was about ready to throw my bike in the ditch and lie down till someone wanted to rescue me.
scaledFree MemberManchester! They’re not that particular at all
These are form last years MCR hop project but you get the idea.
This years haul…

scaledFree MemberNot brewing owt but a kit at the moment but my new Chinook and Cascade hop roots turned up yesterday, so the kids and I will be planting them this weekend.
Got 2 first gold plants going into their second year now so should get a good haul off them for bittering and use the fancier ones for aroma. I’m quite looking forward to a green hop beer!
scaledFree Member3 kids and 2 cars here.
7 seater Kia Sorrento thing and my Toyota Avensis estate. The kids dont all fit in the Avensis really, it’s impossible for the two older ones to put their seat belts on themselves in the space. Even the Kia, which is bloody massive is a struggle.
The Mrs wants a dog as well so stuff it I want one of the new(ish) crew cab transit customs. My mates had one for a while, can get bikes in for a family of 5 in the back, with camping gear and seat everyone in comfort. His kids cant even hit eachother in the back when they’re in the two window seats.
scaledFree MemberTubeless g one all-round.
Don’t stray from the winning formula, I got lured into an offer of cheap tyres and it’s been nothing but pain since.
Will be fitting a replacement g one tomorrow!
scaledFree MemberColin, I think you’ve got my number on whatasap – once the evenings get lighter and the woods a bit dryer there’s plenty of scope for jumps practice (and pub, nach) locally
scaledFree MemberFractured shoulder, few other medical things, bout of depression and now chest xrays and steroids for a chest infection It’s fair to say i’m carrying a bit of extra timber and i’m nearly 5,000 km down on last year :(
scaledFree Membera whole FIFTEEN english pounds for the frame and bottom bracket. picked up some ancient second hand 140mm pikes and built the rest up from spare parts. Bloody brilliant little bike.
scaledFree MemberWhy not make it unnecessarily complicated?
The legs on that pivot round the bolts then there’s a long piece of threaded bar underneath so you can adjust the angle of the ramp by moving the legs :D
Then we had some ply kicking about from building the garage work tops so built these…
There’s obviously a seesaw type thing kicking about as well.
scaledFree MemberI tend ride over to see the inlaws around Christmas, last year it was a short one as they were congregating at the sister in laws in leeds, ace.
I set out nice and early, well, as you can imagine the weather was northern…
It was about 100km and that was all good, if a little grim at times but nothing to worry about, I’d actually arrived before the wife and kids so had a little ride about leeds and found a garage with a Subway and shoved some bonus food in my face. Rode past the the in laws again and saw that the wife and kids had arrived, ace. Went in, had a shower and put everything on charge. sorted. Lunch was a bit of a disappointment, I eat quite a lot anyway and after a ride I’ll nail a good few thousand calories for fun, today the only way to do that was through the medium of Stella Artios and sausage rolls, I was quietly smug about that meatball marinara and it’s 900 calories.
Once the MIL had passed the threshold for acceptable alcohol consumption, I played the ace up my sleeve, “If i’m going to get home in time to put the kids to bed, i’d better get going!”
It was actually quite a pleasant ride for the first hour or so even though it’s a bit lumpy coming out of leeds towards manchester. It was getting pretty dark by now and quite cold but I kept on trucking.
By the time the power indicator on the back of my diablo went orange it was proper dark and the wind was now howling into my face. It’s alright, no idiot would go out on one of these rides with just one light. I’d fully charged all my lights. I turned off the diablo to save some juice and just ran my little backup while there was still a smidge of twilight to see by. I was still 60km from home and the garmin said i’d already done a fair bit of the climbing on the return route.Hang on, if i’d fully charged all my lights, why was the exposure on orange already? As that though ran through my head, *Poof* backup front light plunges into darkness. That was about the time i got to the bottom of what I now know to be Saddleworth Road, with the aforementioned headwind and a skinful of Stella I felt like I was going backwards, Strava said i spent an hour climbing that hill, with just a rear light on in the fog. I figured that i’d be able to see any car coming far enough away to turn my lights on and it’s not as if someone was going to pull out of a side road. I can honestly say that was the longest hour of my life. I’m getting little flashbacks just looking at the route. If the weather had turned worse i’d have been completely screwed, as it was I got down New Hey road into Denshaw and saw the bright lights of Oldham spread out below me. The relief was palpable.
Somehow I got lost trying to get onto the canal at Ashton, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to die on the moors, if I got mugged on the Fallowfield loop, that was OK as well.I’ll never do anything that stupid again.
This year is the second time i’ll have ridden over to Carsington water for christmas, last time I did it in the dark and the snow, off road and on a cross bike :D
Turned out that people had been charging their phones instead of my lights for a significant portion of the day, priorities, eh?
