No family medical background. I think my dad got it 2nd hand years ago and thought it was a camping stove so gave it to me. So that’s what I thought it was. Never really thought of medical. It’s just been sat in the garage for years.

    But that looks similar design.

    Cheers guys

Was hoping it would be the manufacturer. No other details written on it apart from that.

Only problem is you need a pan with a long handle to balance it. Couldn’t balance your cup on there to make a coffee!

Just found a few boxes of stuff.
    My manta ray:
    null
Very dirty and in need of good clean and probably a new body shell.

And a few Rough Rider parts:
    null

Also found a grasshopper chassis (I think)

Got another rough rider somewhere, its not complete, definitely hasn’t got a body shell and possibly a few other bits missing.

Also missing is a slightly battered Midnight Pumpkin, again without a body shell.

I got them all 2nd hand in rough conditions, plus I wasn’t very careful with them when I was a kid, so all have had lots if damage and in various states of repair.

Currently trying to sort through all parts and get them organized to see what I have and what I need. Then decide got to what to do with them. Possibly sell once lockdown is over?

Use these for all my bikes

Similar to what you have, but without the tyre grips on the back

Mobile phones, using headphones sets, the microphones if positioned right should pickup the talking through the masks. Get everyone onto some sort of group chat?

Providing they don’t cause interference with the medical equipment that is,and signal can be obtained in the building.

Getting off, when starting out slow down quickly and rest into the wall if using one.

Don’t forget due to the height of rollers you won’t be able to easily reach the floor like you can riding bike normally. So a platform (block of wood) next to rollers is useful to put your foot down

Plus if you use different bikes of different lenght wheelbase (I use road and crossbike on mine) then they will handle much differently if you don’t adjust the front roller, as Kilo says make sure the wheel is in the right place. If not one bike will be stable but the other will be a bit unstable.

Try to get up to speed quickly. I find it more stable the faster your wheels go.

You will probably fall off once or twice while getting use to it. Keep trying and don’t give up. If near a wall or other objects make sure that there is nothing protruding that you can hurt yourself on when you do fall.

Once comfortable you should be able to take hands of bars, take Jersey off or use phone etc. whilst on rollers without worrying about falling off.

Molgrips, have you thought about a bit of a bodge with something like these

    https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15903989/xlc-components-comfort-locking-grips-and-bar-ends-15903989/?istCompanyId=c2ec8a5d-93c1-4850-a97a-f4d89d7c99c8&istFeedId=2755fba0-7dfe-46a9-bfd0-09b37aed8b93&istItemId=wapiiailx&istBid=t&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj6Xq7bzF6AIVBJ7VCh1wNQ14EAQYAiABEgKkvPD_BwE

But put a hole in the end of the grip and put them the wrong way round, so the thick part is to the stem and theclamp part towards your brakelevers. It will give you a similar idea to those Farr bars. Might look odd having two sets of grips on, but could work.

Kayak, some good ideas there. Thanks.
Tracey, that would be ideal, but all wall space is taken. Only place left is the space above where the up and over garage door is.

What I really need to do is get rid of some bikes and wheels to free up space, but that is never going to happen!

Got a loads of bits of Tamiya r/c cars that must be well over 25 years old, a Manta Ray, couple of Rough Rider chassis’s, and load of bits for Midnight Pumpkin and Grasshopper, plus a few other bits and pieces. May get them out under lockdown and see about getting them running again.

Molgrips, I didn’t say it was justifiable. For around 90% of SUV owners it is not justifiable to have one of those vehicles at all. But they want to drive them. That doesn’t make it right.

But that is the same as owning a bigger property than what you actually need, that is not justifiable either. But that seems to be ok as nobody complains about that!

The fact is the majority of people don’t actually care or try to do something to reduce carbon their carbon footprint. They just want the biggest house or SUV because they can afford it. As many people are selfish and don’t care that their choices affect the environment.

I’m not here to defend SUV’s. But how many people on STW who are arguing against anyone driving SUV’s, actually own a house that is way bigger than their needs or have an extra large man cave/garage because they think they need or deserve the extra space?

Should owning an bigger property than one actually needs be met with the same resentment as someone owning an SUV?

Larger properties have a greater effect on the environment than a smaller property of equal build quality. Larger properties take more energy to heat them and generally need more electricity to meet the lighting and power requirements. So they have a greater damage to the environment.

So people with houses or garages bigger than what they actually need are very similar to people driving SUV’s. They want the extra convenience that the bigger size gives them.

Do all the SUV haters on STW live in the smallest most eco-friendly buildings??

Before anyone asks, no I don’t drive a SUV or large uneconomical car. I’m lucky if I average 20 miles a week in a car that does nearly 60mpg. And sometimes I can go weeks without driving at all.

Not a trail centre but you could do the queen charlotte trail. Don’t have to do it all as there are plenty water taxis back to Picton, if you only have one or 2 days.

Scenery is amazing and track isn’t too technical. It is a walking track but you use to be able to cycle along it at certain times of the year except in the summer (this was 18 years ago, so may have changed)

How about a Boardman ASR 8.8?
Steel frame, takes up 32mm tyres, already comes with mudguards. Ideal for audax’s.
I’ve done couple of 150 mile rides on mine. Wheels are a little heavy though.

In Strava you can sort of do this. If you select your ride then go to the segments. Select which segment you want to see, then select your results. This will show you the date ridden and the time it took for each effort.

This only compares segements and not full rides.

Obviously no good for you if you want to see it in Garmin connect as opposed to Strava.

Top of Park rash in the Yorkshire dales on a fully loaded touring bike. Stopped before descent to find that both the v-brake replacement cartridges had fallen out of the front brake (cheap replacements that didn’t come with new securing pins, so had to use the old ones and they didn’t seem too secure when fitting them, but thought it would be ok).

Started descent slowly using rear brake, But quickly started gaining way too much speed and it was raining heavy so no grip and couldn’t slow bike down. Got way to fast and knew I wouldn’t make the hairpin bends, so aimed for the grass verge and decided to jump off the bike. Was a nice soft landing, bike took a hit against drystone wall, but glad it wasn’t me. Could have ended badly if I tried to stay on bike much longer.

If you want budget what about a Carrera Subway 1? Only £240 new. Got triple chainset, which will be helpful for touring. And with your remaining budget you can buy racks, mudguards, panniers etc.

Saracens Levarg FB? Won’t take full 29er tyres, but in 650b can run 50mm. Just buy a set of 700c wheels for commuting on.

If you have a vice, hold the splined cassette tool in the vice pointing up, place wheel onto cassette tool and then use a chain whip with a longest bar possible to get most grip. Use the chain whip on the biggest cog on the cassette to get most grip, so less chance of chain slipping.
This is much easier than trying to turn both chain whip and cassette removal tool in opposite directions

If chain whip won’t work and you not bothered about the cassette, use a big set of stillsons on the cassette.
