I’m 43, ride a 32lb AM rig and sometimes have to push up…. Especially that climb up to the 2 barns leading up to derwent edge in the dark peak. I’m not unfit but that climb is a butch!

I ran ZTR Flows with yellow tape, valves and sealant and they were great for about 4 weeks… then the rear blew clean off the rim with a large bang and a week later the front did the same once they had done it they could be remounted etc and would last 2 rides tops before blowing off the rim once or twice at low speed in a straight line.

    Setup :

    ZTR Flow
    2.4 HR II
    Yellow Tape
    Stand Valves and Sealant
    28psi Max

I have just swopped them out to UST HR and Minion 2.5 combination and I’m hopping for better results the tyres certainly fit the rims better.

    Are you kidding????

I’ve got the same set up and they survived fort William DH track for 2 days riding last week 32psi rear 30psi front

What exactly does the inflating with no-sealant stage do? Is this just to take sure the rim / tyre combo will work and that you have the right amount of rim tape (standard and yellow)? The suggestion is to remove the valve core when inflating, which means air will escape immediately, I’m sure my track pump wont stop this happening, the attachment will just blow off the valve stem before it reaches 40psi.

    Yes

    Here is my procedure

Leave tube in over night at 40 psi
Remove tube, put valve in but remove core, make sure you only break one bead
Pump up wth track pump, you should hear the bead popping as it seats
Now you now the tyres works on the rim
Deflate, break a small bit of the bead- enough to get sealant in pump back up until the bead pops on
Now deflate your tyre, don’t worry as the beads will still be seated, pop valve core in the pump up and do your swishing or better still go for a ride down the road

I put a brand new HR2 on a stans rim (with yellow tape and valve) last night, it inflated first try, completely dry with no fairy liquid or sealant. I dumped the air out, put some sealant in and up it went again… still sat at 60psi when I checked it the morning, perfect!

    +1

I dd front and back….. Easy

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere his suspension setup is ridiculously hard to go faster. To the point most other riders would struggle to ride it at speed and stay on.

They mentioned it in the commentary yesterday

    Bigger travel bike wont help

Slacker head angle and less brakes will help

Surely if you go to a bigger travel bike, the geometry changes……

I managed 3 runs of the red and 2 of the main DH and I was knackered!

We were there last Monday and was very surprised at the Red, quite tricky in places, managed 3 runs on the Red and 1 on then DH but nearly killed myself, it wasn’t an enjoyable experience as I was out of my depth and not ashamed to admit it, I was on a 6″ bike with 36s but could of done with some thing bigger!

Amazing weather though, if your there i recommend Laggan Wolftrax…..AWESOME

Kids are amazing, they just soak it all in then randomly emulate you at the most inappropriate time – you gotta love em!

My little girl of 18 months has been brushing her teeth herself in the bath, cos she’s see daddy doing it….bless!!

Airport express? I just bought a couple off a guy at work, I-device controllable, optical and analog out. It’s a mystery why he upgraded to Sonos

Probably because the DAC in airport express is utter shite

Thanks guys. My preferred tyre is the Minion single ply. I normally get the kevlar folding as they are a bit lighter and slightly less prone to pinch flats. Should I be going with the wire bead for tubeless with Flows? There seems to be mixed opinions on whether they are fine or iffy

I actually found my folding HIgh Roller 2s went up easier than the previous folding single ply High Rollers! I think the key with Flows is taking the valve core out as you can get more air in quicker!

I just fitted folding High Roller 2s 60a EXO to my Flows, tube in overnight, remove tube breaking just one bead, valve core removed went up no trouble with a track pump didn’t even have to use soapy water. Don’t understand the problems people have! However always used Maxxis tyres without issue.

Have you actually ridden a full suspension bike down a hill before?
Generally, the ones that are tall and short and steep dont ride very nicely.

    Bullits seem to do alright..

I dunno what he’s on about either

I have one, fitted with X-fusion vengeances and an rp23.

Have you had a tune on your rear shock, what do you think of the shock seeing as SC spec a low compression/rebound tune on these bikes.

Here is my Butcher! I’ve had it a year, I’m 511 with a long reach and short legs and the Large suits me fine with a 50mm stem, it’s a set up for AM as it should…..Flows, Van 36s, chain guide, short stem etc.
I ride it in the Dark Peak and off to Fort bill in a few weeks, it’s a great climber if you pedal smoothly, brilliant descender and really is a tough bike. I really enjoy riding it and never get bored of it, it’s perfect bike for the Alps.

You won’t be disappointed any questions feel free to ask, but if you get one don’t bother with the RP23 upgrade as in my opinion doesn’t need it as its a great climber.

Just waiting for my alloy Highball now for XC and local stuff.

head angle is perhaps too slack

It’s a trail bike, not a XC mincing machine

As for building up a bike with 2nd hand bits the attraction of a new shiny bike might appeal more to the OP

I loved my 901 it’s a great trail bike, I think it’s pretty tough and have had no qualms riding it the dark peak, mine is the 2011 model but I sold it last year due to finances but I’m going to buy the improved 2012 model shortly form Rutland as soon as they are reduced.

Wl, I’ve just worked it out BV are significantly more expensive than TA, not sure if it’s something to do with the fact you have to pay in Swiss Francs…. The rate at Asda’s today was 1.38 chf so holiday cost is £721 TA is £599
