Johnny, Im from Lincoln, 41 reasonably fit and ride a Heckler. Increasingly finding myself pedaling around the Dark Peak on my own – I work shifts (4 on, 6 off) so I ride in the week 99% of the time.

Im off tomorrow – maybe Stanage Edge out of the Vertabrae Guide or Ladybower loop if you want to join up.

Drop us an email if interested!

More than likely that they need a good clean out!

The pawls & springs very rarely snap, what makes them go quiet is all the gunk & grease thats got in there!

The need stripping and cleaning/lubing…..look here http://www.forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=283367%5D

Done mine a few times and they sound like new (ie noisy)

mmmmm it dosen't take much for abuse!

people on here only have the same ability to find stock as you do, so why don't you ring round all the uk kona dealers in the UK! – knob!

ok i just needed reassuring – to go on my Heckler with a Van R Coil Shock!

    SBrock

Heavy? But are they not lighter than Juicy 7's?

    SBrock

I wouldn't recommend it on a single pivot but your probably best speaking to tim at tftuned-they are experts!

    SBrock

    ok high tune then!
are you happy with the shock ATM?

    SBrock
    Free Member

well my HV sleeve on my RP23 is low compression/rebound and the shock is crap!!! Not very supple and blows through the travel very easily – so you have to run less sag to stop it bottoming but small bump compliance is shite! Santa Cruz spec these shocks but are useless on single pivots.
What I have done is put a shim in to reduce the volume of air – totally better shock now (i run more sag, its very supple and fails to blow through the travel) – however im gonna get a coil as a Heckler performs better with one!

if you look on the air can it will say by means of some graphic symbols, there are 3 symbols
if one symbol is high lighted then it is a low tune, if 3 are highlighted then its heavy?

what tune is your RP23? I mean compression/rebound tune? What bike is it?

There seems to be quite a few faliures on Tracers – it does worry me as Hecklers suffer the same as well, mine is 2 yrs old next year and hope that if it goes its gonna do it before the 2 yr warranty is up!

why do you want one? Have you damaged yours?

I ran a 36t xt no problems but gone to a slx double bash now on my heckler (latest generation)

ok got my new MBR yesterday and they have a selection of american frames that they review – Tracer, Blur, 5 Spot etc etc.

they said the Tracer was great as is the Blur but the Tracer is slightly heavier!

maybe read that before deciding – but i test rode a tracer and loved it!

Sorry to hijack – currently run an 08 Heckler with a 09 HV RP23 which I was not overly impressed with – I will explain -When i run the recommended sag (13-15%) the small bump compliance was shit and it was very easy to blow through all the travel on big hits, the pro pedal was not noticeable even in the firmest setting. I read on mtbr about this problem and a few people have put a shim inside the HV air sleeve which in effect reduces the air volume, it is a very easy, no cost mod to perform. I did mine (if anybody wants the link then i can email) and the shock was a lot better – I run 10-15 psi less which means run more sag so get more small bump compliance and the shock now does not blow through its travel and on the big hits I fail to bottom it out which is a great improvement. Incidentally it is a 2009 HV RP23 with low compression tune & rebound.

However I have spoken to TF and they say if I want to go for a Coil then the Van R is plenty good enough for the Heckler rather than spending more on a DHX5!

I am going to try a Van R Coil (£210 @TFTuned) and expect a significant improvement over the RP23!

Konastoner – Coil will always feel smoother over air!

went ghetto tubeless today! (DT5.1's/Maxxis Single ply HRs')

Duck tape/valve from old tube/stans tire sealant!

So far so good but need to test them!

    Not bad for £13

im not saying it is right, but neither is the government right in sending young men ill-equipped to war & death! Oh yeah and all the expenses scandal and tax-payers money being used for there lavish lifestyles!
I bought a SC Heckler frame, I ride it so I am doing what the government want us to do – GET FIT & CUT DOWN ON EMISSIONS.

Finally I pay a higher-rate tax, so i dont really save that much on cycle scheme!

You're not allowed to just "order a frame" in any case.

I got a SC Heckler frame on cyclescheme from Julies in Leciester….

Talk to them nicely and they will let you buy anything you want!

    Thanks Fozzy,

Have been reading about the forums today and I seem to getting a little bit interested in going tubeless – what is the main benefit? Is it weight? or convenience of no punctures so you can run lower pressures!

A friend of a friend has just gone tubeless and claims he has had 8 potential punctures on his back wheel – is that possible?

I do want to reduce a bit of weight off my Heckler and I know tyres/rims is the way to go. and help appreciated!

thanks for that, I already have the hubs built up on DT5.1's, I just want to get something a bit lighter and tougher as the DT's are quite soft! Have read a lot about the Stan's Flow rim so that's one possibility!

Just a bit off topic but is the shock on the nomad 216×63, just that I'm gonna put a fox van r coil on my heckler and would be good to know that it would go on a nomad? Did you get the monarch with the nomad or pay extra fir the upgrade? And how much did you get for your heckler? Cheers James

Nice bike James – would love a ano green nomad and would build build mine up pretty similar to yours. It's a he'll of a lot of bike. Is Alison still on a heckler?

before you go via the pUSHD route what size air can is on your RP23?

i have a Heckler with a 09 RP23 High volume air can – my problem while getting the correct sag I was blowing through the travel far too easily. I did i little hunting around on MTBR and some guys have put shims inton the high volume air sleeve which reduces the amount of air that goes into the shock – in reality it means you run 10-15% more psi, have a bit more sag so you sit further in the travel but it fails to bottom out and the mid to end stroke is more progressive.

Trust me this works for me on my Heckler!

if you need the link let me know, its probably an hours work and while your at it its a good time to do a seal service!
