Scores for £1000(ish) full sus bike in MBR test

please don't tell me people read that gibberish……. even worse it pains me that people buy a £1000 bike on the strength of a magazine review – yes it does happen!

Why do people slag Hope kit off?

I keep reading people saying the brakes are shit ……… I hope not as I have just invested in some Hope Tech M4s, braided hoses & floating rotors! I haven't used them properly but compared to Avid Juicy's were so easy to set up, bleed etc etc and look bloody fantastic!

Had PRO2's for a couples of years – can't fault them – just a bearing change on the front 20mm – and from what I can gather the service is excellent and they are British!

best speak to the guys at Cyclesport on the High St, the guy who runs it lives in North Hykeham and rides a Cotic Soda that he races, so he must know some good routes round here. I live in Norh Hykeham as well but I have a Heckler which is way too much bike for round here – there are a few of us in Lincoln on STW but I haven't met any of them as most of my riding is in the Dark Peak/Dalby/Wales.

    Hope this helps!

the ironic thing is that when they get charged, imprisoned then serve their sentence they will get new identities (to protect them) WTF…… what about the poor victims… scarred for life.

I am sorry kids like that are just vile & disgusting, yes maybe the parents themselves are too blame – just makes me see that I'm a good parent and my kids have been bought up with good manners/morals like the majority of society.

The parents should be accountable, and why is the system always out to protect the guilty and not the innocent…grrrr don't get me started.

I ghetto'd 2 Single ply High Rollers in summer – worked first time and never let me down…….

went into garage last night as I thought I better put a Swampthing on the front end – jesus the tyre would just not seat after 2 hours and £4/5 stans sealant all over garage floor – I sacked it off as a bad job and put a tube in and will try another day!

I have heard some people use 3 layers of gaffer tape on the rim, it's harder to get tyre on but tyre seats straight away – will try when I got some spare time!

I ripped down The Pleney, Les Chavannes on a Heckler all week – the best fun ever in my whole life – mind you the Heckler was burly…..Coil Lyrics, DHX Coil, Minions etc etc.

My word of advice is go coil/coil set up – you need it – saw too many peeps blowing shocks to bits!

My 1.9 Tdi A3 normally knocks out 49-53 mpg whilst doing the school run twice a day, a trip to supermarket 3-4 times week and 100 mile round trip to work 3-4 times a month, so I was horrified to fill up today and calculate that my last tank worked out at 42 mpg…… Must be the winter and I must check my tyre pressures tomorrow as that's one thing I rarely check!

mmmmm thats the only down side of ghetto tubeless – putting on your winter tyres, I have run HR's all winter but not done much riding in the last 4 weeks as the Dark Peak is still white – I got some single ply swampys that i keep meaning to put on but is it really worth the faff as spring will be here soon!

Hi, I have now got my M4 brakes, way lighter then Juicy 7's, easy to bleed, set up etc etc and they look fantastic!!

    Went for 203/185 floating rotors

a lot depends on rim/trye combo I'm afraid – everyone I know who runs DT5.1/HR combos have no problems!

If I go up to the Peaks I can pinch flat the UST versions easy enough, even on my xc bike, so I wouldn't even consider the single ply non-usts run tubeless.

Sorry mate, but I have been down the Beast, Suicide Brake with DT5.1d, Ghetto Single Ply High Rollers at 32 psi with no burping or problems whatsoever – it must be you!!

PS I'm a big lad and I throw my bike around on those Peak descents – the rockier the better!

Single Ply HR's and Swampy's on DT5.1 rims, no problems whatsoever!

however you can make a short bike longer but you can't make a long bike shorter!
    Go on then, explain yourself……..

by using a longer stem and layback post to increase the effective top tube length

I am 6ft tall 32inch inside and ride a medium Pitch Pro with a 50mm stem. Feels ok to me.

yes im 5'11 with relatively short inside leg so the Medium was better for me……. 34 inside leg mmm probably go for large!

go for medium mate, I had a medium and I'm 5'11 and would not want it any bigger! Good bike though for the money, my first FS – got a Heckler now though!

I nearly came to the point where I needed (financially) to sell my beloved Heckler! My partner talked me out of it, that was a year ago and am so grateful i took her advice……

Once you sell it you won't get another especially if you have a little one on the way…. and to be honest you don't need half the stuff they say you do for a baby….. my partner knows hopefully no.4 is on the way!

PS Just got some lovely Hope M4 brakes for my Heckler – something I couldn't of done if I'd sold it!

I just put a Fox Coil on my Heckler and TBH it just blows my 2009 HV RP23 out of the water – It's very plush, smooth and has a more linear feel to it! Ok I have no pro pedal, but I do spin very smoothy (albeit slower) up climbs, but the feel of the bike down more than makes up for it.

The problem with RP23 SC bikes is that they get valved LOW for compression & rebound, (they only have to order 1 type of tuned Shock from Fox – to keep the cost down) – these low valved shocks are absolutely useless on a single pivot bike like a Heckler!

Anybody who has a Heckler with a Low valved shock, i feel sorry for you – DON'T suffer, either send it to TFtuned to get re-valved/pushd or better still get a Van R Coil for £189 form MOJO!

Andy M/Renton – Yes I have another post about PC my Heckler Brilliant White but a peeps say that the integrity of the welding could be compromised??? SC, like any other company will always say modifying anything will invalidate warranty so no really bothered and my warranty runs out in a few months!

When I take it to my local PC I'm just gonna tell them its Alu.
