not being funny, but went last year and took spare tyres, tubes, mechs & chains, lubes, bolts…..you name it.

was riding the all the big DHs all week…… not one mechanical breakdown/faliure between 4 of us!

dont panic, just treat it as a day out at a UK trail centre… tubes, powerlinks mech hanger, multi tool

this weight issue people have with a Coil Shock really irritates me!!

FFS get a grip of yoursleves!

I have been running an low-compression (OE from SC) RP23 on my Heckler – The way those shocks have been tuned by Fox for SC SUCK!

Upgraded to a Fox Van R Coil, then Ghetto'd tubeless my Tyres and it pedals/grips/descends soo much better than the RP23.

Weight????? I can't tell that it makes any difference whatsoever –

All this fuss about 'coil shocks are too heavy' is total bollocks.

I'm sure the correct tool does it easily enough, but I found that a bench vice, plank of wood with a 22mm (i think) hole drilled in it, and some 16mm sockets worked a treat….

16mm sockets are chamfered……the correct tools are not so you will risk damaging the new bearings

Buy the whole kit from 18bikes @£19.50 and you get all tools to do F & R Pro IIs,also they are the cheapest for SKF bearings for said hubs!

I live in North Hykeham, sadly it is pretty flat – I ride a Heckler so its a little out of place here.

I mainly ride in the Dark Peak (60ish miles) and the DH/Freeride park at Hamilton Hill!

Any one fancy a ride partner I am happy to show you round the Dark Peak!

i have rode a Tracer (but it was built light and pedaled well) I own a Heckler (08) with Pikes and a Van R Coil and it just feels so much better than the Tracer –

Get the Heckler mate you will love it – pedals as well as the Tracer but come into its own pointing down!

PRO2's, at that price-point are probably the best on the market – easily servicable, various axle options and look good so unless you have just won the lottery forget the CK's and stick to Hope.

    My tubeless set up:

Hope PRO2's on DT5.1 ex, SP High Rollers Ghetto Tubeless – cheap as chips and it works!

Well, today's was sitting pedaling up a steep and trying to drop onto the granny as I found myself in slippery mud.

The one before that one was on my HT, standing going up another steep. HT set up 1×9 – went with a bang that one

Im sorry mate but you are asking for trouble shifting through the gears under load……..

Select the right gear before loading the cranks up with power….

Chains & Links never fail if you use the gears correctly!

    Had Juicy 7's………

    Nightmare to bleed!
Nightmare to change pads out on the trail
Could never get the bite point adjustments set right
The CPS system is great in theory…but in practice never worked

    Now got Hope TechM4s……

Easier to bleed…without a need for any expensive bleed kit!
Easier to change pad (just a bolt)
    Adjustments work flawlessly
    The CPS system works
    They are lighter!
    They look better
    And have more power!!!

18 Bikes have done me very proud, good service & advice as well!

So far…… M4 Brakes, Van R Coil Shock, Pro2 tool kit, various bearings etc.

I live in Lincoln, but THIS is my LBS as I ride in the Dark Peak most weeks….. and the bike shops here in Lincoln are terrible – they made a £450 mistake on a set of Pikes – never again.

With them being a Hopetech shop, they never take advantage of the fact and are happy giving you advice on Hubs/Brakes etc over the phone so you can save money and do all the servicing yourself!

use the proper bearing drift kit from Hope!!!

wasted 2 sets of bearings now on the front using the 24mm socket option…….. current bearings lasting now since last winter……

plus its easier and you swear less!

yeh superstar is about 2mins from me, I have met Neil – not quite sure what to make of him/or the set up down there! Been reading bits on ere' about him being a bit dodgy – mind you he did replace a BB for me that had used for a day in the Dark Peak!

hey guys, i got there this morning at 9am so was on my own……

jesus Derwent Edge was hilarious, i was waist deep in icy snow trying to get to whinestone le tor – then went down the other side and what i thought was a shallow puddle was a deep one – straight over the bars in a big puddle!! lol lol it was a soft landing but some people walking were terrified and thought i'd killed myself cos I was just lying in said puddle for a bit cos it was starting to get warm……. im fecked now!

Are you sure its a 2010 frame though? as it still has the pinch bolts on the pivot I thought the new ones (2010)were all collet style fittings like on the BLT??

No, it is not a 2010 frame, the 2010 frame has collet style fittings for pinch bolts and the gusset at the headtube has gone – shame really!

SC do not change the frames every year but this is the first change for over 2 years to the Heckler.

it looks like you have the 2009 RP23 HV (newer decals) – if you run normal sag to achieve small bump compliance then as soon as you hit the bigger stuff if just blows right through the travel – you can run less sag to stop bottom-out but your small bump compliance suffers, the 3 pro-pedal settings all seem the same and this shock is more suited to a VP bike. SC have the shocks tuned like this from FOX purely for cost- but they suit there VP bikes more. If you do a search on MTBR there is soo much written about this problem – You could speak to TFTuned to get it re-valved and they will back up what I say. I have upgraded to a DHX4 Coil it the bike is amazing now!!

    SBrock

Hi mate your Heckler is near identical to mine…I love it!

But please do your self a favour and get rid of the Low Compression/Rebound RP23 – it just does not work on a single-pivot like the Heckler. The Heckler performs sooo much better with a Coil Shock, failing that send it to TFTuned to get re-valved and it will be an improvement!

NOTE TO ALL -WE'VE CHANGED THE MEETING PLACE TO HERE AT 10AM.

sorry for the confusion. Blame the snow

LOL LOL LOL!!! You all bottled it then!!!

No seriously I think it's wise, I think the Ladybower loop will still be challenging cos its gonna be very wet!!

I normally park my car at Hetherdene CP so prob see you all at 10am!

I haven't got any kids to get from school tomorrow so no need to rush – I can now enjoy a pint & chip butty in the pub now!

PS we got 2 GREAT descents to look forward to!
