its been dirty plenty, been to Wales, Scotland, Peaks every weekend – just thought i would give it a nice clean and polish before fitting new forks….it would be rude not to!

Ignore him buddy it’s just the standard singletrack reply to someone having something their proud of. It looks sweet!

The servicing doesn’t bother me, I enjoy it.

The forks feel utterly brilliant, no packing down, stiff and feel so much better than my old Sektors!

You will have to buy a uk ad charger but a small price to pay for the saving, but use one from your iPod or iPad.

butcher is more of a heckler with a link

The Butcher is slacker, has iscg05 tabs, tapered head tube and comes in more colours than the Heckler.

The Butcher climbs amazingly well, it has a low compression tune shock with so really does pedal very well, make sure you mate runs between 15-20 mm sag though, no more than 20 otherwise he will be too far into the best bit of the travel. Great bombproof bike, I use a tapered fork and chain guide with mine makes it a real burly AM rig.

About 600 quid, think the nomad is .5 degree slacker but may be wrong!

Saying that very pleased with the Butcher it’s a lovely bike, an improvement on my old Heckler.

Nothing wrong with that mate, I couldn’t afford a Nomad so I have a Butcher with Van 36 RC2 Kashimas , Flows on Pro2s, Thomson, X9 so pretty similar spec. Loving my Butcher, one day I will have a Nomad Carbon!

And all this apple fanboy hate campaign just makes me laugh, yes the technology on the android phones is all pretty impressive, but it’s software and ease of use, intuitiveness and design that sells phones not the hardware and apple have got it right, even with iPad,

I moved from an iPhone 3G as I dropped and smashed it in May 2010 to a HTC Desire, I was waiting for the iPhone 4 but couldn’t wait much longer. Initially the HTC was impressive but battery is starting to become a joke now….. I can’t wait to get rid of it and getting a iPhone 4s, much nicer, slicker compatible with my iMac, iPad etc, although android is very popular I just don’t think it’s as nice as ios5′

Loco – are there any tuning options for my forks not that I need any tuning.

They are 2012 Fox Van 36 RC2 Kashimas

I have recently tried experimenting with slower rebound and must admit on loose rocky single track going down it does feel a lot nicer as though it is absorbing everything as opposed to my arms absorbing the hits.

I have had my 36 RC2s Kashimas for a bit now, I still don’t think I have them set up properly yet, still trying to get the optimum low/high speed compression settings right, I did have them dialled in one day and had them working soo well but I reset them when I put a firmer spring in…back to the drawing board I guess!

Yep my forks are 2012 160mm Van 36 RC2 Kashimas – I have only just bought them recently and hope I made the right choice over a Lyriks with Mission Control.

What I was asking do the 2 different branded systems essential perform the same function? Ie stopping the fork packing down on repeated hits?

I guess in the MTB world it is a trade off between a great climber & descender….. Yes a Patriot with 180 forks is gonna be pretty good coming down but a pig to climb.
That’s why I went for a 160mm bike, my Butcher climbs superb (low compression tune on my rear shock)’ probably not as good as a Patriot coming down but it won’t be far off.
I honestly think a 6 inch bike is all the bike you need for uk trails.

That is just ridiculous, nothing wrong with that fella and tell the nosey dogooder to do one!

was thinking its all in my mind! it does feel harder to pedal tho, shame really because its a much nicer position for climbing. thinking i should have gone for floats or vanillas now as the talas just doesn’t get used.

I have 160mm forks on my SC Butcher, looked at the TALAS but went for 2012 Fox Van RC2 Kashimas, the bike pedals incredibly well up hill, so much better than my old Heckler with coil piles wound down to 90mm.
The Vans are a heavy fork, but I don’t notice one bit, easy to look after and seal kits are half the price of TALAS seal kits, they are a bomb proof fork and IMHO feel better than coil Lyriks.

With regards to the OP, a Patriot with 180mm forks wound down is never gonna pedal well!

Neil, did they re-valve it, my Butcher is doing more or less the same! May give Loco a call think he does a re-valve and lots of people on here have used him.

    SBrock

Nowt wrong with the RP23 just get a re-valve to suit the bike

What is involved in a re-valve?

Thinking about this on my Butcher cos think the back end could be a lot more supple than it is!

    SBrock

It’s a large frame so shouldn’t be a problem, thanks
